Rechtsprobleme der Akkreditierung von Studiengängen
No full textSoftcover, 17x24Die Akkreditierung von Studiengängen bietet auch fast 15 Jahre nach ihrer Einführung politisch wie juristisch beträchtlichen Anlass zur Diskussion. Die stetige Fortentwicklung des Akkreditierungsverfahrens, die zunehmende Bedeutung von Qualitätssicherung sowie die immer wieder auffl ammende Debatte um den Bologna-Prozess sorgen dafür, dass das Thema aktuell und lebendig bleibt. Die vorliegende Dissertation widmet sich neben der hochschulpolitischen Entwicklung den vielfältigen verwaltungs- und verfassungsrechtlichen Problemen des Akkreditierungswesens an deutschen Hochschulen. Dabei kommen zum einen altbekannte Fragen zur Rechtsnatur der Akkreditierung oder dem Grundrechtseingriff durch die Akkreditierungspfl icht zur Sprache. Des Weiteren geht es aber auch um neue Herausforderungen wie die Systemakkreditierung und um bisher nur wenig erörterte Themen wie die Vertragsverhältnisse der Beteiligten, die demokratische Legitimation der Akkreditierungsverwaltung sowie die Rechtsnatur ihrer Beschlüsse. Außerdem zieht die Arbeit systematische Vergleiche zu Rechtsgebieten mit ähnlichen Strukturen; dabei nimmt sie u.a. Stellung zu weiteren Fragen der Hochschulmodernisierung, der Privatisierungsdebatte und des Verwaltungsorganisationsrechts.The present dissertation addresses the manifold legal aspects of the administrative and constitutional problems of accreditation in german institutions of higher education. Issues are raised in respect to well-known questions concerning the legal nature of accreditation, as well as to the related encroachment upon fundamental rights. Furthermore, new challenges such as system accreditation and the seldom debated issues concerning the contractual relationships of the involved parties, or the democratic legitimation of the accreditation administration and the legal nature of its decisions are discussed. The study also draws comparisons to similarly structured areas of law - in so doing, further questions of modernisation in higher education, the debate surrounding privatisation and legal aspects of the administrative organisation are commented on

This book analyses the impacts of Islamic microfinance on both poverty alleviation and environmental awareness and the variation in its effects between different geographical conditions, as well as how it compares in these respects with conventional microfinance. Islamic microfinance institutions (MFIs) had a more significant impact on poverty alleviation than conventional MFIs, but a low effect on awareness of specific environmental issues. Islamic MFIs were also successful in combating poverty regardless of regional differences, but similarly ineffective in contributing to environmental awareness
Time resolved x-ray scattering at in-house and synchrotron sources
No full textSoftcover, 17x24The main goal of this thesis was to extend and apply time resolved x-ray scattering experiments at in-house, synchrotron and free electron laser sources to soft matter sample systems, in particular aligned lipid multilayers on solid support. A special emphasis was placed on a characterization of the non-equilibrium fast time response of the multilamellar stack to shortly pulsed optical excitation as well as the acousto-electric field accompanying a surface acoustic wave (SAW). In addition to fundamental questions associated with non-equilibrium dynamics of soft matter films such as driven membrane undulations, this thesis addresses technological challenges of time resolved x-ray diffraction, in particular concerning the timing scheme that has been implemented at the synchrotron storage ring Petra III, DESY, Hamburg. Importantly, a conceptually new pulse resolved x-ray detection scheme, well exceeding the performance of present detector concepts, has been developed and is described in detail

Written under the impression of the trench warfare in Flanders, he called the poem “Anthem for Doomed Youth”: To him and his fellow-soldiers the world had become a place of hopelessness and despair. Armed conflicts seem to be inextricably linked to human nature. They reduce men to mere animals and bring about utter despair; men “grope in the dark without light” (Job 12:25). Yet humans are by nature extremely vulnerable, with neither a crocodile’s plate armour nor an elephant’s tusks, weight and size: War should be essentially foreign to their nature. In spite of their claim to rationality, though, which supposedly distinguishes them from animals, humans continue trying to solve their problems by taking up arms against each other. Representations of conflicts have found their way into various art forms. The Bible, the written cornerstone of the Christian faith – with forgiveness and peacefulness as central tenets – , contains many tales of military engagements, of murder and conquest. Conflicts do not always imply the use of armed force, though. There are also less deadly, though not necessarily less fierce ‘wars’: wars of ideology, for example, or the ‘price wars’ of retailers. The papers in this volume explore a variety of different conflicts and their representations – among them the wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan in American films – but also depictions of other kinds of hostilities closer to home, such as the ‘Shakespeare wars’
The phylogenetic system of Mantodea (Insecta: Dictyoptera)
No full textSoftcover, DIN A4Praying mantises (Mantodea) are a charismatic group of raptorial insects. Their main distribution encompasses the tropical and subtropical regions of the world where they have conquered almost every habitat including the sandy deserts. Mantodea are well-known to the public. Their highly moveable heads and an impressive appearance, ranging from conspicuously colourful to well-camouflaged and plant-like, add to their popularity. Despite their often fantastic looks and interesting behaviour, Mantodea have been mostly neglected by science in the past century. A renaissance of praying mantis research by both molecular and morphological means has recently started to contribute immensely to our understanding of these fascinating insects and their evolution. This volume presents the first phylogenetic analysis of Mantodea based exclusively on an extensive morphological dataset comprising the description and detailed discussion of 152 morphological characters for 122 species from the greater part of the taxonomical subgroups. Observations on fossil mantises, postembryonic development, and sexual dimorphism are considered for tracing character evolution, and the results are compared with the latest molecular findings. The structures of many rare taxa are shown in detail for the first time, including the forelegs of Chaeteessa, Mantoida, and Metallyticus. Selected characters and their evolution are elucidated in further detail, for example head processes, asymmetrical male antennomeres, female digging structures, and the aberrant foreleg morphology of Chaeteessa and Metallyticus. Hypotheses on the early evolution of the mantodean lifestyle are presented. This monograph contains more than 460 figures, including detailed drawings and SEM images of morphological structures, making this volume the most comprehensive work on mantodean morphology to date
A dedicated endstation for waveguide-based x-ray imaging
No full textSoftcover, 17x24X-ray microscopy has emerged as a powerful and versatile imaging technique in many fields of science over the last years, offering insights in opaque media at high spatial resolution. A major challenge remains the fabrication of suitable X-ray lenses, e.g., Fresnel zone plates or compound refractive lenses. In an alternative approach of a lensless imaging scheme the sample is illuminated by a coherent X-ray beam. The sample information is then reconstructed from the recorded diffraction signal by numerical iterative algorithms. Within this thesis the basics of lensless holographic imaging with X-Ray waveguides are summarised and extended to the concept of waveguide-based X-ray interferometry. The specific instrumentation required for the conceptual experiments of waveguide-based holographic imaging is explained and illustrated by the obtained results. Based on the results of these conceptual experiments a dedicated synchrotron endstation for waveguide-based holographic imaging was designed and built. The specifications and properties of the Kirkpatrick-Baez focussing mirrors and other mechanical and optical components are described in detail, along with the instrument control system and various available detectors. First commissioning results prove the imaging abilities of the presented endstation

No full textSoftcover, 17x24Schüler und Schülerinnen mit Legasthenie und/oder Dyskalkulie haben in der Schule erhebliche Probleme und erreichen häufig nur niedrige Bildungsabschlüsse, weil sie aufgrund ihrer Beeinträchtigung nicht im geforderten Maß lesen, rechtschreiben und/oder rechnen können. Ob und inwieweit Legasthenie und Dyskalkulie in der Schule berücksichtigt werden müssen, ist pädagogisch und schulrechtlich sehr umstritten. Die Arbeit untersucht auf der Grundlage des Verfassungsrechts und der UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention, welche Rechte Schüler und Schülerinnen mit Legasthenie/Dyskalkulie haben. Sie kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass Legasthenie und Dyskalkulie Behinderungen im Sinne des Art. 3 III GG und der UN-BRK sind. Daraus ergibt sich für die betroffenen Schüler und Schülerinnen ein umfassender Anspruch auf Nachteilsausgleich, sowohl bei den Prüfungsbedingungen als auch bei den Prüfungsinhalten. Im umfangreichen Verfahrensteil werden praktische Fragestellungen geprüft, wie z.B. das Verfahren zur Anerkennung der Behinderung in der Schule, die Ausgestaltung von Nachteilsausgleich, der Umfang des Datenschutzes und die Zulässigkeit von Zeugnisbemerkungen
