Die Studie untersucht diese Frage am Beispiel von 1130 Artikeln aus der Wochenzeitung Die ZEIT und der Verbandszeitschrift Forschung & Lehre im Zeitraum von 1999 bis 2014. Hierbei gerät insbesondere die Verbindung von Forschung und Lehre als Aufgabenbeschreibung und identitätsstiftendes Ideal in den Blick sowie die Frage danach, wie Universitätsmitglieder und Außenstehende die Entwicklung der Universität beschreiben und beurteilen. Die vorwiegend qualitativen Argumentationsanalysen greifen immer wieder auf deskriptiv-quantitative Ergebnisse zurück. So geraten sowohl einzelne Argumentationsmuster als auch allgemeine Debatten um die Universität der Gegenwart in den Blick.How has the university been discussed between scientific mission, study and education since the beginning of the Bologna reform? The study examines this question using 1130 articles published in the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and the journal Forschung & Lehre in the period from 1999 to 2014 as examples. Thus, the connection between »research and teaching« as a description of the university tasks and its function to save and create identity, is taken into account. No full textSoftcover, 17x24Ein paar Wochen, bevor van Gogh sich im Frühjahr 1889 in eine Nervenklinik in Saint-Rémy einwies, hatte er an Gauguin geschrieben, dass er eine "Kunst des Trostes für zerrissene Herzen" schaffen wollte. Vom Fenster seines Schlafzimmers in der Klinik blickte er auf ein ummauertes Kornfeld herab. Im Laufe eines Jahres inspirierten die jahreszeitlichen Veränderungen auf dem Feld Van Gogh dazu, einen Zyklus dieses Kornfeldes zu malen und es als allegorische Darstellung des Schicksals des menschlichen Lebens aufzufassen, das ihm dadurch Trost zu spenden vermochte.A few weeks before van Gogh admitted himself into a mental hospital in Saint-Rémy in spring 1889 he had written to Gauguin that he wanted to create a “consolatory art for distressed hearts”. From his bedroom in the clinic he overlooked an enclosed wheat field. Over the course of a year the seasonal changes inspired Van Gogh to paint a cycle of this wheat field, thereby seeing it as an allegorical representation of the fate of human life, which comforted him
An Uncertain Future - Anticipating Oil in Uganda
No full textSoftcover, 17x24The discovery of oil in Uganda in 2006 ushered in an oil-age era with new prospects of unforeseen riches. However, after an initial exploration boom developments stalled. Unlike other countries with major oil discoveries, Uganda has been slow in developing its oil. In fact, over ten years after the first discoveries, there is still no oil. During the time of the research for this book between 2012 and 2015, Uganda’s oil had not yet fully materialised but was becoming. The overarching characteristic of this research project was waiting for the big changes to come: a waiting characterised by indeterminacy. There is a timeline but every year it gets expanded and in 2018 having oil still seems to belong to an uncertain future. This book looks at the waiting period as a time of not-yet-ness and describes the practices of future- and resource-making in Uganda. How did Ugandans handle the new resource wealth and how did they imagine their future with oil to be? This ethnography is concerned with Uganda’s oil and the way Ugandans anticipated different futures with it: promising futures of wealth and development and disturbing futures of destruction and suffering. The book works out how uncertainty was an underlying feature of these anticipations and how risks and risk discourses shaped the imaginations of possible futures. Much of the talk around the oil involved the dichotomy of blessing or curse and it was not clear, which one the oil would be. Rather than adding another assessment of what the future with oil will be like, this book describes the predictions and prophesies as an essential part of how resources are being made. This ethnography shows how various actors in Uganda, from the state, the oil industry, the civil society, and the extractive communities, have tried to negotiate their position in the oil arena. Annika Witte argues in this book that by establishing their risks and using them as power resources actors can influence the becoming of oil as a resource and their own place in a petro-future. Adicionalmente, se pone a disposición del lector un relevante trabajo dedicado a la complicidad en el asesinato por medio del servicio en el campo de concentración de Auschwitz. Eine Untersuchung unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der EU-Regelungen für Daseinsvorsorgeleistungen
No full textSoftcover, 17x24Abfälle sind Waren, und insbesondere die getrennt erfassten, d. h. sortenreinen Verwertungsabfälle aus privaten Haushalten wie beispielsweise das Altpapier sind heiß begehrte Waren, um die die öffentlich-rechtlichen Entsorgungsträger (örE), also die Kommunen, und private Entsorgungsunternehmen konkurrieren. Das 2012 in Kraft getretene KrWG lässt für diese Abfälle nach §§ 17, 18 KrWG eine Ausnahme von der grundsätzlichen Pflicht, die Abfälle dem örE zu überlassen, zu. Allerdings ist die Ausnahme so eng gestaltet, dass die zuständigen Behörden, die oftmals zugleich örE sind, privaten Unternehmen die Sammlung leicht verbieten können. Damit werden die Europäische Warenverkehrs- und Wettbewerbsfreiheit eingeschränkt. Die vorliegende Arbeit zeigt diese Einschränkungen auf und untersucht, ob sie insbesondere nach den Ausnahmeregelungen für Dienstleistungen von allgemeinem wirtschaftlichem Interesse (DAWI, Daseinsvorsorge) gerechtfertigt werden können. Insoweit dies nicht gelingt, wird eine Änderung der einschlägigen Regelungen der §§ 17 und 18 KrWG
vorgeschlagen.Waste is a commodity, and in particular the separately collected, single-variety waste from private households such as waste paper is a highly coveted commodity that public bodies responsible for waste management, i.e. the municipalities, and private sector waste management companies compete for. The German recycling law (KrWG), which came into force in 2012, allows for this waste according to §§ 17, 18 KrWG an exception to the general obligation to hand over the waste to the public bodies responsible for waste management. However, the exception is so narrow that the competent authorities, which are often the responsible bodies for waste management at the same time, can easily ban the collection of private companies. This restricts the European free movement of goods and infringes EU competition law. The present work highlights these restrictions and infringements and examines whether they can be justified, in particular, by the exemptions for Services of General Economic Interest (SGEI). Insofar as this does not succeed, an amendment of the relevant regulations of §§ 17 and 18 KrWG is proposed

Die Thematik, die eine medizin- und organisationssoziologische, eine ökonomische und nicht zuletzt eine (straf-)rechtliche Dimension hat, war Gegenstand der traditionellen Jahrestagung des Göttinger Instituts für Kriminalwissenschaften im Juli 2016.The organizational requirements for an error-free and effective care of patients within a large-scale hospital are high: despite all efforts to improve the process quality and the establishment of risk management systems and reporting systems, there exists the general impression that the processes and communicative challenges are still – in particular with regard to the grown influence of economic factor – prone to error: in case of doubt to the harm of the patients. The topic, which has a medical and organizational sociological, an economic and not least a (criminal-)legal dimension, was the subject of the traditional annual meeting of the Göttingen Institute for Criminal Science in July 2016
India Beyond India: Dilemmas of Belonging
No full textSoftcover, 17x24People’s transnational mobilities, their activities to build homes in their countries of residence and their connectivities have resulted in multiplicities of belonging to encountered, imagined and represented communities operating within various political contexts. Migrants and their descendants labor to form and transform relations with their country of origin and of residence. People who see their origins in India but are now living elsewhere are a case in point. They have been establishing worldwide home places, whose growing number and vibrancy invite reconsideration of Indian diasporic communities and contexts in terms of ‘India(s) beyond India.’ Issues of belonging in Indian diasporas include questions of membership not only in the nation of previous and present residence and/or the nation of origin, but also in other communities and networks in political, economic, religious and social realms at local, regional or global levels. Yet, belonging – and especially simultaneous belonging – to various formations is rarely unambiguous. Rather, belonging in all its modes may entail dilemmas that arise from inclusions and exclusions. Bearing in mind such processes, the contributions to this volume endeavor to provide answers to the question of what kinds of difficulties members of Indian communities abroad encounter in connection with their identifications with and participation in specific collectivities. The underlying argument of all the essays collected is that members of Indian diasporas develop strategies to cope with the dilemmas they face in connection with their sense of belonging to particular communities, while they are subjected to specific power relationships. Thus, the volume sheds light on the ways in which dilemmas of belonging are being negotiated in intercultural fields

Konzepte von Gesundheit und Krankheit werden dabei von dieser Technisierung durchdrungen. Smartphones, Datenbrillen und SmartWatches entwickelt. Es lassen sich medizinische Geräte und Systeme immer einfacher bedienen, die gewonnenen Daten können dabei immer schneller ausgetauscht und ausgewertet werden. Sogenannte assistierte Gesundheitstechnologien, neue Informations- und Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten lassen die Schnittstelle zwischen Mensch und Maschine unscharf werden. Der Sammelband thematisiert grundlegende soziale, kulturelle und ethische Fragen der Mensch-Technik-Interaktion und widmet sich aus kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlicher Forschungsperspektive der Frage, inwieweit Technik den Alltag, kulturelle Ordnungen und Wissenssysteme verändert. In the meantime, it is easier and faster to operate medical devices and systems. In addition, the data obtained can be exchanged and analyzed faster and faster. A so-called assisted health technology and new information and communication options make the interface between human and machine blurred. The anthology addresses fundamental social, cultural and ethical questions of human-technology interaction and, from a cultural and social scientific research perspective, addresses the question of how technology alters everyday life, cultural orders and knowledge systems

In einem großen geschichtlichen Bogen von der frühen Aufklärung bis zur Französischen Revolution zeigt er auf, wie der Begriff sich von seinen religiösen Konnotationen löst und zunehmend als eine positive seelische Energie verstanden wird, derer sich die Vernunft bedient, um Praxis werden zu können. Dabei erläutert Jürgen Schramke durchgängig auch die Verbindungs- und Trennlinien zu den Begriffen Schwärmerei und Fanatismus im Kontext der zeitgenössischen Diskussionszusammenhänge und belegt zudem den oftmals engen Zusammenhang zwischen Enthusiasmus und Genie-Konzept.
Als Philologe mit einem ausgeprägten Interesse an Ideengeschichte, als Germanist und Romanist mit langjähriger Erfahrung in Forschung und Lehre an deutschen und französischen Universitäten hat Jürgen
Schramke sein Forschungsfeld mit großer Fachkompetenz vermessen. Die Erträge seiner wertvollen Arbeit verdienen Aufmerksamkeit und produktive Auseinandersetzung.

The chief methods presented are participant observation, open interviews and biographical case reconstruction. The special advantages of interpretive methods, as against other qualitative methods, are revealed by comparing them to content analysis.
Empirical examples show how the methods presented can be implemented in practice, and concrete problems connected with conducting empirical research are discussed. By presenting individual case studies, the author shows how to apply the principle of openness when collecting empirical data, whether through interviews or observations, and she offers rules for analysis based on the principles of reconstruction and sequentiality
