No full textSoftcover, 17x24Der Ausbau von Ganztagsschulen sollte u. a. zu einer veränderten Lehr- und Lernkultur führen, die motivational-affektive Kompetenzen von SchülerInnen fördert. Aber auch nach 20 Jahren scheint die Ganztagsgrundschule dies nicht zu erfüllen. Wissenschaftliche Qualitätskriterien werden zu selten in Grundschulen umgesetzt. Ziel dieser Dissertation war es die Wirkung eines (verzahnten) extracurricularen naturwissenschaftlichen Angebots auf GrundschülerInnen bezüglich ihrer motivational-affektiven Merkmale zu untersuchen. Dazu wurde im Rahmen der Interventionsstudie ein (verzahntes) Angebot durchgeführt, wobei dies an der Hälfte der Schulen zum Sachunterricht verknüpft wurde. Die Auswertung der Fragebögen von 236 SchülerInnen ergab, dass die Teilnahme an einem naturwissenschaftlichen Angebot gewinnbringend sein kann, die Verzahnung jedoch nicht so hoch wirksam ist, wie erwartet. Die Studie regt an, die innerschulische Struktur zu verändern und das Verständnis von Verzahnung zu überarbeiten.The expansion of all-day schools should lead, among other things, to a changed teaching and learning culture that promotes motivational-affective competencies in students. The aim of this dissertation was to investigate the effect of an (interlocked) extracurricular science program on elementary school students regarding their motivational-affective characteristics. For this purpose, an (interlocked) offer was implemented in the intervention study, whereby this was linked to physical education in half of the schools. The analysis of the questionnaires of 236 pupils showed that participation in a science offer can be profitable, but that the interlocking is not as highly effective as expected. Im neu geplanten Biodiversitätsmuseum werden wir die Forschungsprojekte dieser Gruppen vorstellen, um zu veranschaulichen, was Biodiversität ist, wie sie entstanden ist und welche Wechselwirkungen sie in Ökosystemen hat. Wir, als Menschen, sind ebenso abhängig von der Biodiversität wie wir ein Teil von ihr sind. Aufgrund unseres Einflusses befindet sich die Biodiversität jedoch in einer Krise. Wir werden die erheblichen Auswirkungen menschlicher Aktivitäten auf die biologische Vielfalt des Planeten aufzeigen. Das Verständnis, dass Biodiversität für uns wichtig ist und was dies für unsere Zukunft bedeutet, ist der Schlüssel, um diese Krise zu stoppen. Die geplante Ausstellung soll im zweiten Obergeschoss des ehemaligen Gebäudes des Naturhistorischen Museums an der Berliner Straße eröffnet werden. Das übergeordnete Ziel des Museums ist die Förderung und Unterstützung einer wissenschaftlichen Kultur in der Gesellschaft. Unsere Ausstellung soll in den Besucher*innen Begeisterung für die Natur und deren Erforschung wecken und somit auch die wissenschaftliche Arbeit der Universität einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zugänglich machen

No full textHardcover, 17x24Das „Handwörterbuch des Altuigurischen“ ist die erste Bestandsaufnahme des gesamten Wortschatzes altuigurischer Texte (Manuskripte, Blockdrucke, Inschriften), die in den Oasenstädten der antiken Seidenstraße (Turfan, Dunhuang u. a.) gefunden wurden. Einbezogen ist auch der reiche Lehnwortschatz der buddhistischen, manichäischen und christlichen Texte. Mithilfe des Wörterbuchs können nunmehr erstmalig Editionen aller Textgattungen (religiöse, medizinische, astrologische und divinatorische Texte, Briefe, Urkunden, Verträge, Inschriften) ohne weitere lexikografische Hilfsmittel benutzt werden. Das „Handwörterbuch des Altuigurischen“ eignet sich besonders für den universitären Unterricht im Fach Turkologie, da auch komplexe Begriffe und Kollokationen erfasst sind. Weil das Altuigurische die am besten bezeugte einheimische Sprache Zentralasiens in vorislamischer Zeit und gleichzeitig die erste ausführlich dokumentierte türkische Literatursprache ist, ist diese Variante des Alttürkischen nicht nur für die Turkologie und die allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft, sondern auch für die vielfältige und bis heute faszinierende Kulturgeschichte der Seidenstraße von großer Bedeutung.The "Concise Dictionary of Old Uyghur" is the first inventory of the entire vocabulary of Old Uyghur texts (manuscripts, block prints, inscriptions) found in the oasis cities of the ancient Silk Road (Turfan, Dunhuang and others). Also included is the rich loan vocabulary of Buddhist, Manichaean and Christian texts. With the help of the dictionary, editions of all text genres (religious, medical, astrological and divinatory texts, letters, deeds, contracts, inscriptions) can now be used for the first time without further lexicographic aids. The "Handwörterbuch des Altuigurischen" (Concise Dictionary of Old Uyghur) is particularly suitable for university teaching in the subject of Turkology, since even complex terms and collocations are covered. Because Old Uyghur is the best attested indigenous language of Central Asia in pre-Islamic times and at the same time the first extensively documented Turkic literary language, this variant of Old Turkic is of great importance not only for Turkology and general linguistics, but also for the diverse and still fascinating cultural history of the Silk Road.

Negotiating the Religious in Contemporary Everyday Life in the “Islamic World”

We encounter also, in many different and often unexpected ways, the individual in multiple contexts. The present volume presents perspectives on everyday life in Muslim societies beyond the spectacular. From a broad academic background in Islamic and Iranian studies, social anthropology, sociology, philosophy and history, its contributors show that everyday life as well as religious practice in countries as diverse as Senegal, Niger, Egypt, Tunisia and Iran is not informed by one single “Islamic” tradition, but rather by multiple and often surprisingly different modes of religiosity and non-religiosity.Les contributions au présent volume montrent que les pays qui sont souvent présentés dans la littérature comme faisant partie d'un "monde islamique" stéréotypé et apparemment monolithique représentent en fait une diversité considérable. A Cross-Linguistic Exploration of Context Updating Mechanisms
No full textSoftcover, 17x24Presupposition is what people make use of on a daily basis. It is therefore crucial to comprehend how a presupposition gets projected in a sentence. This thesis focuses on three major presupposition projection mechanisms, namely left-right asymmetric, symmetric and hierarchical approaches. For the reason that the majority of previous research is undertaken on the basis of English data, this thesis evaluates these mechanisms employing Japanese and Chinese empirical evidence. The analyses and experimental data in this thesis confirm that, firstly, the left-right asymmetric account which is substantiated by English empirical evidence is not tenable in Japanese and Chinese. Secondly, the symmetric approach appears to be promising in both English and Japanese, though it has not been sufficiently investigated. Thirdly, the hierarchical framework can account for English, Japanese and Chinese empirical evidence preliminarily. Much more attention should be paid to the hierarchical approach to presupposition projection in further studies. Further investigation into this topic can deepen the comprehension of human language and language processing

Dies gilt besonders für die Außengrenzen der Europäischen Union. Ceuta und Melilla, zwei Städte in Nordafrika, sind seit dem EG-Beitritt Spaniens im Jahr 1986 zu einer solchen Außengrenze geworden und die sie umgebenden sechs Meter hohen Zäune haben sich zu einem Sinnbild für die „Festung Europa“ entwickelt. Aber was bedeutet das für die Menschen, die an einem solchen Ort leben? Wie erleben sie den Alltag in einer „Käfigstadt“ und welche Sinndeutungen sind mit ihrem Leben an der Grenze verbunden?
Die vorliegende soziologische Forschungsarbeit fokussiert die Figurationen zwischen längerfristig im spanisch-marokkanischen Grenzraum ansässigen Gruppierungen und rekonstruiert einen postkolonialen Grenzraum in Wandlungsprozessen. Diese sind begleitet von langsam sich verändernden Machtbalancen, in denen Zugehörigkeiten und Geschichtsbilder stetig ausgehandelt werden.
In dieser Studie werden verschiedene Akteur*innen im Grenzraum aus figurations- und gedächtnissoziologischen sowie biographietheoretischen Perspektiven untersucht. Durch vier detaillierte Fallanalysen wird die Komplexität der Lebensrealitäten der Lokalbevölkerung dargestellt. Die Einbettung in historische und gegenwärtige gesellschaftliche Konstellationen im spanisch-marokkanischen Grenzraum macht zudem deutlich, dass sowohl die Zugehörigkeitskonstruktionen als auch die Mächteverhältnisse in Ceuta und Melilla nur im Kontext kolonialer und postkolonialer Prozesse und Ereignisse zu verstehen sind.All over the world, borders are places of separation, distinction and violence on the one hand, and of encounter, mobility and everyday practices on the other. This is particularly true of the external borders of the European Union. When Spain joined the European Communities in 1986, Ceuta and Melilla, two cities in North Africa, became such an external border and the six-metre-high fences surrounding them became a symbol of “Fortress Europe”. But what does this mean for the people who live in such a place? How do they experience everyday life in a “caged city”, and how do they interpret their experiences?
This sociological study focuses on figurations between old-established groupings in the border space between Spain and Morocco, and reconstructs a post-colonial border space in the light of transformation processes and slowly changing power balances, in which belongings and views of history are constantly being renegotiated.
Different actors in the border space are studied from the perspective of figurational sociology, the sociology of memory and biographical research. Four detailed case analyses serve to illustrate the complexity of local social realities. These are embedded in historical and present-day social constellations in this border space between Spain and Morocco, and it is made clear that constructions of belonging and power relations in Ceuta and Melilla can only be understood in the context of colonial and post-colonial processes and events
Ethics and Economics in the Narratives of Young South Koreans
No full textSoftcover, 17x24This dissertation explores the values and practices of young, middle-class South Koreans and what it means for them to live a good life. Based on 12 months of ethnographic fieldwork, it attends to the pathways and life trajectories of young adults living, studying and working in Seoul, the country’s economic, political, cultural and educational centre. Due to changing economic conditions, it appears to be increasingly difficult for young people today to reproduce middle-class status. In public discourse, these difficulties are expressed in the terms ‘Spec’ or ‘Give-up Generation’. At the same time, young people are starting to question middle-class lifestyles and values and turn to practices which emphasise different standards. The author illustrates how young adults negotiate middle-class ideals by contextualising the values around four key themes – education, marriage, consumption, and work. In doing so, she explores her interlocutors’ thoughts and reflections about middle-class values through a theoretical and methodological framework centred on ordinary ethics and the everyday use of money. This ethnography sheds light on the complex and heterogenous ways young people in South Korea conceptualise and realise the good in their lives, and it focuses attention on the explicitness of ethics and the relationship between money and values in these young Seoulites’ everyday lives and social relations
