Colorectal Cancer in Pakistan: genetic, molecular, and epidemiological perspectives

    Get PDF
Colorectal cancer (CRC) stands as a major health concern globally, with a notable impact in Pakistan. The epidemiology of CRC in this region reveals a higher prevalence in men and an increasing incidence in younger age groups. Risk factors contributing to CRC encompass a blend of lifestyle choices and genetic predispositions. The genetic and molecular pathways which are crucial to understanding of CRC pathogenesis include the CpG Island Methylator Phenotype (CIMP), Chromosomal Instability (CIN), and Microsatellite Instability (MSI). The challenge of late-stage diagnosis due to limited screening is a critical factor affecting survival rates in Pakistan. Compared to higher incidence rates in developed countries, the situation in Pakistan underscores the need for region-specific research and healthcare strategies. The review provides an in-depth analysis of CRC's epidemiology, risk factors, and molecular mechanisms in Pakistan, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment methods in the region

After gracing the universe with beautiful creations, Allah extended his benevolence to mankind and sent prophets to refine their characters. Then he announced the completion of the divine message by sealing the chain of prophet hood on the holy prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and declaring the life of the holy prophet a role model for humanity. Hence, individuals and communities can seek comprehensive guidance from the life of the Holy Prophet, seeking solutions not only for religious dilemmas but also for economic, social, and ethical challenges across every facet of life. In the pursuit of wisdom, scholars have crafted the realm of "Fiqh ul Sirah," a dedicated knowledge to navigate and resolve a spectrum of issues by drawing upon the noble life of the holy prophet (ﷺ). Whether it is individual life or collective life, the economy has a great impact on them because it is an essential need for continuity of life. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ not only illuminated the path for spiritual matters, but he intricately weaved rules and guidance for fostering the development of societies. This article delves into the economic facets illuminated by the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. These insights served as the bedrock for the ascent of Muslims as a formidable economic force. Throughout the annals of Muslim history, the resilience of Muslim states in the face of economic challenges stands as a testament, with not a single instance where a Muslim state succumbed to economic ruin

اخوت ومساوات نبوی تعلیمات کے تناظر میں: Brotherhood and Equality in the Context of Prophetic Teachings

    No full text
Islam, as a religion, emphasizes peace, security, and offers a comprehensive framework for life. Central to its teachings is the promotion of mutual love and brotherhood among its adherents. The Holy Qur'an underscores this principle by stating, 'Verily, all believers are brothers, so make peace among your brothers. And fear Allah so that you may be shown mercy.' (Al-Hujurat 49:10) This verse serves to unite Muslims globally under a common bond, where each individual is regarded as a brother or sister to one another. Beyond the confines of Islam, such a profound sense of brotherhood is seldom found in other religious or social contexts. Additionally, Islam advocates for justice and equality, emphasizing the importance of treating all individuals with fairness and respect. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encapsulated this concept in his farewell sermon, stating, 'O people, beware! Indeed, your Lord is one and your father is also one. Beware, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor a non-Arab over an Arab; a white person has no superiority over a black person, nor does a black person have superiority over a white person, except by piety.' Given the significance of these teachings, this paper aims to explore the themes of brotherhood and equality within the context of Prophetic guidance from various perspectives

After the arrival of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in Madinah, he gave priority to the economic resources of the society. Since there was an emergency and on the other hand, there were Ansar Madinah, some of whom were middle-class and some were quite rich.  Such was the form of Madina.   In our country, one section is suffering from economic oppression and the other section is quite wealthy. In such a situation, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) adopted the method of making all Muslims brothers. At that time, the Companions of the Prophet   Sacrificed for the other, and thus the unreasonable economic difference between the two classes ended. Although the Jews were rich at that time, they gave loans on interest, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did not say that loans should be taken from them.  Instead, he introduced the system of good loans and when the members of the society started to establish the economy on interest-free loans through mutual cooperation, then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) completely prohibited interest and removed this curse.  On the other hand, the wealth received by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was dedicated and spent on the collective and individual needs of the Muslims  Even today, for a fair distribution of wealth and a balanced economic system, it is necessary to study Seerat Tayyaba and get guidance from this golden age so that the Muslim Ummah can get rid of this poverty. Keywords:           waqf system, economic resources, poverty, unreasonable economic difference

    Get PDF
Purpose - Recently, conflicts among countries have caused many economic shocks in the global economy. Commodity price shocks are one of the most essential shocks resulting from these conflicts. Industries like automobiles are always most vulnerable to these shocks. This paper examines the impact of commodity price shocks on the automobile industry of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach - We used monthly data from July 2008 to June 2020 and employed the SVAR model for our analysis. Findings - The pattern of the response of the automobile industry to commodity price shocks showed that commodity price shocks' impact on Pakistan's automobile industry is dominant on the supply side. Energy, education, and housing price shocks cause an excess supply of automobiles, whereas transportation prices reduce supply. On the demand side, food, clothing, and footwear price shocks negatively affect demand. Originality/value - This study increases the knowledge of the impact of commodity price shocks on the automobile industry and is the first study that addresses this issue in Pakistan. It also provides policymakers guidelines and helps them make policies for the development of the automobile industry accordingly

    Get PDF
Background: Pakistan faces a critical reliance on electricity for socio-economic development and its commitment to achieving sustainable energy goals. The investigation of robust electricity demand requires the inclusion of the effects of climate change along with income, number of consumers, and use of capital goods. Objectives: The study analyzes the complex electricity demand function in the face of climate change revolving around the bottom of overall consumption to frame evidence-based, efficient electricity planning and policies for the country mired in darkness and vulnerable to climate change. Methods: This study avails ARDL cointegrating bounds approach to assess the long-run effects for the case of Pakistan between 1972 and 2022. Results: The results showed that the cooling degree had a significant positive effect on electricity demand. The income had an inverted U-shaped effect, while the number of consumers was also positively and significantly affected. The analysis to forecast Pakistan’s electricity consumption demand by considering cooling degree days, along with other factors, shows that the demand is likely to grow around 6-8% per annum, which is twice the size of current estimates. Implications: It is recommended to revisit Pakistan’s electricity planning to take cooling degree days into account to develop a climate change-compatible electricity sector, a prerequisite for the country's sustainable development

Does FDI Regulatory Policies Influence FDI Inflows in Developing Countries? A Non Linear Analysis

    Get PDF
Purpose: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow is regarded as highly important particularly for developing countries as it enhances economic activities and creates job opportunities. The main objective of the present study is to analyze the impact of two regulatory policies i.e. Regulatory Restrictiveness Index (RRI) and Ease of Doing Business (EDB) on FDI inflows in developing countries. Research Gap: Not many studies have discussed the role of more than one regulatory policy to examine their impact on FDI inflows. Therefore, the present study is an attempt to bridge this research gap as it uses two regulatory policies to examine this relationship. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study performs the non-linear analysis using two separate models to determine FDI inflows in 39 developing countries for the period 1997-2020.For this purpose FGLS econometric technique is utilized. The Main Findings: The linearized marginal effects of RRI show that all the countries are located on the left side of U shaped curve while linearized marginal effects of EDB show that some countries lie on the left side and others lie on the right side of U shaped curve. The higher value of the level coefficient than the value of the quadratic coefficient reveals the stronger influence of level coefficients in both models. Theoretical/Practical Implications of the Findings: The study concludes that developing countries need to reduce FDI restrictions to attract maximum FDI inflows. Furthermore, it is recommended that for improving the confidence of foreign investors, appropriate and consistent policies should be designed and implemented
