29th Baltic Conference on the History of Science in Vilnius
Get PDFWelcome to the 29th Baltic Conference on the History of Science. This conference carries on the tradition of rotating conferences in the Baltic countries (now including Finland) which was begun in the summer of 1958. This year it is part of Vilnius University’s celebration of its 440th anniversary, and thus the theme Science and the University. The lectures in our plenary session will explore in greater depth the founding during the interwar period of the major national universities in the Baltic States and Finland. The presentations in our general sessions are divided into five sections: medicine, biological sciences, physical sciences, science and technology, and philosophy. In addition to presenters from the Baltic States and Finland, there will be representatives from Poland, Russia, Ukraine and the United States. I would like to thank the members of the organizing and local arrangements committees for their help, and especially Birutė Railienė, the secretary-treasurer of the Lithuanian Association of the History and Philosophy of Science, and Barbara Omelčenko, the Vilnius University Museum administrator. We are very grateful for support from Vilnius University which has provided the facilities for our conference and the very generous financial contribution from Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics. The organization of this conference in Lithuania began under the very able leadership of Prof. Juozapas Algimantas Krikštopaitis, who was the heart and soul and long-time head of the Lithuanian Association of the History and Philosophy of Science. Unfortunately, he died last year and passed the baton onto me. An In Memoriam for Prof. Krikštopaitis can be found in the front of the abstract booklet. Get PDFThe conference "Lithuanian MSc Research in Informatics and ICT" is a venue to present research of Lithuanian MSc theses in informatics and ICT. The aim of the event is to raise skills of MSc students, familiarize themselves with the research of other students, encourage their interest in scientific activities. MSc students from Kaunas University of Technology, Vilnius University, and Vytautas Magnus University will give their presentations at the conference.Konferencija „Lietuvos magistrantų informatikos ir IT tyrimai“ skirta pristatyti magistrų baigiamųjų darbų tyrimus informatikos ir IT srityse. Šio renginio tikslas – pakelti magistrantų įgūdžius, supažindinti su kitų magistrantų atliekamais tyrimais, paskatinti domėtis moksline veikla. Konferencijoje savo pranešimus skaitys magistrantai iš Kauno technologijos universiteto, Vilniaus universiteto, Vytauto Didžiojo universiteto.
Konferencija vyks Lietuvos mokslų akademijoje (LMA). Tai įstaiga, jungianti žymiausius Lietuvos ir savo veikla su Lietuva susijusius mokslininkus. Ji yra nepriklausoma Seimo, Vyriausybės ir jai pavaldžių institucijų ekspertė ir patarėja mokslo bei studijų, kultūros, socialinės raidos, ūkio, gamtosaugos, sveikatos apsaugos, technologijų bei kitais klausimais. LMA įgyvendina šalies mokslui ir eksperimentinei plėtrai reikšmingus ES struktūrinių fondų projektus, rengia šalies bei tarptautines mokslines konferencijas, užsienio mokslininkų seminarus, mokslininkų susitikimus, akademinius skaitymus, parodas. Tikime, kad dalyvavimas šioje LMA vyksiančioje konferencijoje paskatins magistrantus tęsti mokslinę veiklą ir pabaigus magistro studijas.
Šiuose konferencijos darbuose spausdinami magistrantų pranešimų santraukos ir straipsniai. Tai dažniausiai pirmosios mokslinės publikacijos, bet tikimės, kad ateityje virs į straipsnius prestižiniuose mokslo žurnaluose. To norėtume palinkėti konferencijos dalyviams

Making and shaping things in creative economies
Get PDFAbstract book for symposium “Making and shaping things in creative economies. From history to present day” organised by Vilnius University, 28-30 November 2019. This symposium studies the ways design is organised and managed with different political processes and policies, both in past and present. Instead of focusing solely on the content of policies, politics and management, it attempts to create a wider debate within the framework of culture, creativity and economy. The event looks at the impact that the specific policies and individuals, organisations or institutions behind them have on existing design culture. In addition to the act of designing, the possible subjects include policies shaping all stages in the life cycle of an object, for example promotion, consumption, collecting objects or recycling them, as well as positioning design in a wider political context. Within the international symposium “Making and shaping things in creative economies” an event is dedicated to the study of art and culture within local creative economies and industries in Lithuania and nearby. The aim is to research the ways art is managed and organised with different strategies, processes and policies. of such workshop came up at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics that now is the Institute of Data Science and Digital Technologies
of Vilnius University. The Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Lithuanian Computer Society supported this idea. This idea got approval
both in the Lithuanian research community and abroad. The number of this year presentations is 77. The number of registered participants
is 127 from 9 countries. The main goal of the workshop is to introduce the research undertaken at Lithuanian and foreign universities in the
fields of data science and software engineering. Annual organization of the workshop allows the fast interchanging of new ideas among the
research community. Even 9 companies and institutions supported the workshop this year. This means that the topics of the workshop are
actual for business, too. Topics of the workshop cover Artificial Intelligence, Big data, Bioinformatics, Blockchain technologies, Business
Rules Software Engineering, Data Science, Deep Learning, Digital Technologies, High-Performance Computing, Machine Learning, Medical
Informatics, Modelling Educational Data, Ontological Engineering, Optimization in Data Science, Signal Processing, Visualization Methods for
Multidimensional Data. A special session and discussions are organized about topical business problems that may be solved together with the

Ten years passed from the first workshop. History of the workshop starts from 2009 with 16 presentations. The idea of such workshop came up at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Lithuanian Computer Society supported this idea. This idea got approval both in the Lithuanian research community and abroad. The number of this year presentations is 81. The number of registered participants is 113 from 13 countries.
In 2010, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics became a member of Vilnius University, the largest university of Lithuania. In 2017, the institute changes its name into the Institute of Data Science and Digital Technologies. This name reflects recent activities of the institute. The renewed institute has eight research groups: Cognitive Computing, Image and Signal Analysis, Cyber-Social Systems Engineering, Statistics and Probability, Global Optimization, Intelligent Technologies, Education Systems, Blockchain Technologies.
The main goal of the workshop is to introduce the research undertaken at Lithuanian and foreign universities in the fields of data science and software engineering. Annual organization of the workshop allows the fast interchanging of new ideas among the research community.
Even 11 companies supported the workshop this year. This means that the topics of the workshop are actual for business, too. Topics of the workshop cover big data, bioinformatics, data science, blockchain technologies, deep learning, digital technologies, high-performance computing, visualization methods for multidimensional data, machine learning, medical informatics, ontological engineering, optimization in data science, business rules, and software engineering. Seeking to facilitate relations between science and business, a special session and panel discussion is organized this year about topical business problems that may be solved together with the research community.
