Simulation for the stability and DEA risk analysis of Greek banks within a prolonged duration of the debt crisis

    No full text
In the current paper, we study the stability and the survival probabilities of enterprises and banks within a prolonged duration of the debt-crisis (after 2007,and beyond 2011), with simulation. We utilize historical data from banks and enterprises within the debt-crisis to define crisis-variability and crisis-average values of input parameters of the simulation. We also compute Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), with relevant to simulation inputs and outputs, so as to have a mutual relative efficiency of the Banks, and some enterprises

Assigning and scheduling hierarchical task graphs to heterogeneous resources

    Get PDF
Task Scheduling is an important problem having many practical applications. More often than not, precedence constraints exist between tasks, and a common way to capture them is through Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs). A DAG might contain a great number of tasks representing complex real life scenarios. It might be the case that logical groupings of tasks exist giving a hierarchical nature to the graph. Such Hierarchical Task Graphs (HTGs) have nodes that are further analyzed to DAGs or to other HTGs. In this paper a method of solving an HTG problem is presented based on the idea of gradually solving the problem by replacing subgraphs with virtual nodes. Integer Programming is used to generate virtual nodes that replace a subgraph, results from solving the subgraph problem using. So a series of subproblems are solved and starting from the deeper levels of the HTG a solution to the full problem emerges

Profile-Guided compilation of Scilab algorithms for multiprocessor systems

    Get PDF
DOI: 10.1007/978-3-319-05960-0_37The expression of parallelism in commonly used programming languages is still a large problem when mapping high performance embedded applications to multiprocessor system on chip devices. The Architecture oriented paraLlelization for high performance embedded Multicore systems using scilAb (ALMA) European project aims to bridge these hurdles through the introduction and exploitation of a Scilab-based toolchain which enables the efficient mapping of applications on multiprocessor platforms from a high level of abstraction. To achieve maximum performance the toolchain supports iterative application parallelization using profile-guided application compilation. In this way, the toolchain will increase the quality and performance of a parallelized application from iteration to iteration. This holistic solution of the toolchain hides the complexity of both, the application and the architecture, which leads to a better acceptance, reduced development cost, and shorter time-to-market

Minimum wage and unemployment in greek labour market: A descriptive analysis

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the minimum wage level and the rates of unemployment and employment in the Greek labour market. More specifically, this study analyses the evolution of the minimum wage during the period 2000-2013 and also whether these changes have really affected the unemployment and employment rates or not. The main conclusion of our study supports several other studies conclusions suggesting that the level of minimum wage in Greece did not really affect the unemployment and employment rates. The views of economists on effect of the establishing of minimum wages are quite contradictory. The evaluation of relationship between labour market and minimum wage rate is either positive or negative or even not related at all, depending on the assumptions about characteristics of labour market

XHSTT: An XML archive for high school timetabling problems in different countries

    Get PDF
We present the progress on the benchmarking project for high school timetabling that was introduced at PATAT 2008. In particular, we announce the High School Timetabling Archive XHSTT-2011 with 21 instances from 8 countries and an evaluator capable of checking the syntax of instances and evaluating the solutions

Solving the examination timetabling problem in GPUs

    Get PDF
The examination timetabling problem belongs to the class of combinatorial optimization problems and is of great importance for every University. In this paper, a hybrid evolutionary algorithm running on a GPU is employed to solve the examination timetabling problem. The hybrid evolutionary algorithm proposed has a genetic algorithm component and a greedy steepest descent component. The GPU computational capabilities allow the use of very large population sizes, leading to a more thorough exploration of the problem solution space. The GPU implementation, depending on the size of the problem, is up to twenty six times faster than the identical single-threaded CPU implementation of the algorithm. The algorithm is evaluated with the well known Toronto datasets and compares well with the best results found in the bibliography. Moreover, the selection of the encoding of the chromosomes and the tournament selection size as the population grows are examined and optimized. The compressed sparse row format is used for the conflict matrix and was proven essential to the process, since most of the datasets have a small conflict density, which translates into an extremely sparse matrix

Evaluation of leasing as a method of funding investments in greek agribusiness sector

    No full text
Funding for acquiring assets in Greek agribusiness sector is very common and supports Greek agribusiness sme’s production. Purpose of this study is evaluation of leasing as a method of financing in order to acquire assets used directly in the production process of a business of secondary Greek agribusiness sector or even vertically integrated business. Thus, research was held in December of 2012, collecting proper data from Greek banking sector and considering Tax Legislation. Selection decision of practices financing in the event of such an investment should be made after taking into consideration several factors. Proper financial evaluation of future investment is necessary, while it’s too necessary to be compared the financing choices that are given in Greece. Considering Tax Legislation, Banking Practices, and Law on Leasing, financing methods were compared in reference period. Avoiding generalizations, typical examples are given, showing that leasing preceded against borrowing, considering conditions prevailing in Greece at the time. But decision making for selection of financing method is affected by factors, which may lead to either correct or incorrect conclusions for firm’s interests, if evaluation is not correct or there are personal interests of decision-makers in the administration. Consequently, incentives to use leasing for financing a business can be a lot, but quite important are ownership structure, nature of investment opportunities, business risk and tax status

Corporate Social Responsibility in SMEs and MNEs. The Different Strategic Decision Making

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is about how the strategic decisions are affected by CSR's factors, how different are the strategies that are being adopted by the SMEs compared to the MNEs. The SMEs represent a major share of economic value creation worldwide, and differ substantially from MNEs in terms of organizational characteristics, behavioral guiding principles, financial and human resources. The literature mainly is focusing on how large multinational corporations (MNEs) can address to environmental and social problems that arise globally. How the largest multinational enterprises (MNEs) engage Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in their (inclusive) business strategies, either as suppliers, distributors, customers, innovators or as a target of their CSR policies are searchable. We notice that SMEs possess several organizational characteristics that are favorable for promoting the implementation of CSR related practices. In the contrast, the MNEs possess several characteristics that are favorable for promoting external communication and reporting about CSR, but at the same time constrain the internal implementation. Topics, such as how different is the dedication of the personnel, the sensitivities of the enterprises upon social matters, the critical decisions of the management between SMEs and MNEs, and how the stakeholder engagement affect this strategic decision making are discussed hereafter
