Essay by: Rebecca Coates.EXHAUSTED NATURE considers notions of NATURE and CULTURE - not as polemics in conflict but rather as powerful generative colluders, consistently in oscillation. Exhaustion can mean the depletion of resources. It can also refer to the laborious, to physical or mental tiredness. Exhaustion is posited here less in a negative framework - rather, it is acknowledged for its role in cycles of regeneration.
Hazewinkel and Jacobs create a challenging new installation that embodies the reciprocal nature of their working process. Drawing onto gallery surfaces with oxy-acetelyne flames creates a darkened environment, surrounding video projections made by filming through lenses cast and carved from ice. Subtle architectural interventions activate the this mutual intent of their shared ideas
