Judging a book by its cover: dust jackets in the Monash University Library Rare Books Collection 26 June - 30 September 2014
The exhibition was held in the Rare Books Exhibition space, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Monash University from 26 June - 30 september 2014. Opening address given by Des Cowley, Rare Printed Collections Manager, State Library of Victoria. This exhibition of dust jackets in the Rare Books Collection shows how these covers have changed from being a simple cover for protection to the main vehicle for advertising a book. From the Edwardian period onwards publishers began to lavish their design effort on the jacket rather than the book cover and we see jacket design start to reflect trends in commercial art. This exhibition includes dust jackets from 1860 to the recent deluxe limited edition Penguin Designer Classics series, and those designed by well-known artists and engravers Salvador Dali, Edward Bawden, John Farleigh, Robert Gibbings, Barnett Freedman, Eric Gill, E. McKnight Kauffer, Sidney Nolan and many more

Recent acquisitions 7: an exhibition from the Rare Books Collection 10 October 2013 - 28 February 2014
The exhibition was held in the Rare Books Exhibition space, Sir Louis Matheson Library, Monash University from 10 October 2013 - 28 February 2014. Opening address given by Cathrine Harboe-Ree, University Librarian, Monash University Library. Every few years the Rare Books Collection stages an exhibition of “Recent acquisitions.” Included in the exhibition this time are examples of ephemera, Australian literature and history, children’s books and games, cookery, travel, the home, useful books, sheet music, and items from two world wars. Especially showcased are two significant recent donations. One is from our long-time supporter, Sandy Michell, who recently gave us most of the remainder of her significant collection of cookery books, and who continues to make generous donations of funds. The other is from Father Ivan Page who died in 2012. He was a parish priest in Bendigo, but had a long history of involvement in the world of art, literature and fine books

The miracles
"The Miracles is an ensemble of thirty-seven images conceptualised, produced and framed by artist deborah Kelly with the assistance of photographer and lighting designer Alex Wisser. the works engage with ?old Master? painting ? the Holy Family of the european renaissance becomes a contemporary emblem of art, science and sexual politics, for each photograph depicts the family of a child conceived through assisted reproductive technologies (Art), and posed as though for a renaissance tondo. Both the families and the art have been subjected to interrogation, the former for being non-traditional, the latter for possible ?impurity?."
