Visualizing versus Verbalizing Uncertainty in Intelligence Analysis
Data and analysis scripts for Dhami, Witt, & De Werd (in press). Visualizing versus verbalizing uncertainty in intelligence analysis. Accepted for publication in INTELLIGENCE AND NATIONAL SECURITY
Abstract: We compared the probability terms used by Western intelligence organizations against two visual encoding channel-based representations of uncertainty (i.e. darkness and thickness). Analysts were more sensitive to the probability being communicated under the word than thickness condition but not the darkness condition, with no difference among the visual conditions. However, sensitivity was not perfect. There was no difference in inter-individual variability across all conditions, which was generally poor. Test-retest reliability was greater in the word compared to thickness condition, but not the darkness condition, although, it was imperfect. Finally, analysts did not fully comply with existing uncertainty communication lexicons
Trust and News Use
Re-analysis of existing datasets to contribute data on the relationship between trust in news media and use of news media. Hypotheses proposed on the basis of Strömbäck et al. (2020)
Work-related stress among peer workers in social psychiatry: stressors, resources and their relationship to health-related and motivational outcomes.
People with mental illnesses and with specific training, such as EX-IN training, are increasingly working in social psychiatric institutions. In the following, the collective term "peer workers" (PW) is used for this group of people. Initial findings from field reports and a few studies suggest that PWs can be exposed to many occupational stressors, e.g. experiences of stigmatization, competitive pressure, and role conflicts. Stress at work can promote negative stress consequences in the long term if the stress is not successfully managed. These consequences for PW will be analyzed in this study. Furthermore, this study focuses on factors that can promote work motivation. Research questions of this study are: What is the relationship between stressors/resources, depression, and job satisfaction/fluctuation? What special role do personal resources play, especially in the form of identity as a PW? What are the inter-individual differences regarding stressors/resources and effects
ACQUIRING COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS
Most of the research works are conducted and compiled in English. Anything written and recorded in this language is read and listened to, in wider circles. As a result, English is being taught and learned around the world as a second language today. Language is a tool for communication. We communicate with others, to express our ideas, and to know others’ ideas as well. Communication takes place, where there is speech. Without speech we cannot communicate with one another
Data extraction
Data will be extracted from papers included in the scoping review by two or more independent reviewers using a data extraction tool developed by the reviewers. The data extracted will include specific details about the participants, concept, context, study methods and key findings relevant to the review question. The data extraction tool will be modified and revised as necessary during the process of extracting data from each included evidence source. Modifications will be detailed in the scoping review. Any disagreements that arise between the reviewers will be resolved through discussion, or with an additional reviewer. If appropriate, authors of papers will be contacted to request missing or additional data, where required. The data extraction will follow the Consensus on Exercise Reporting Template (CERT) recommendations as well as additional topics:
Demographics
The baseline characteristics of the participants will be age, height, weight, dominant limb, type of sport, level of athletic activity, location of injury, duration of symptoms, pain on clinical examination test (e.g. squeeze test) and pain on functional tests (e.g. running).
Diagnosis
Groin pain can be classified in many ways. Using the Doha Agreement classification system, groin pain is defined in three clinical entities: (1) adductor-, iliopsoas-, inguinal- and pubic-related, (2) hip-related, and (3) other causes of groin pain. It is presented with sudden or gradual onset, with or without a specific mechanism of injury. Long-standing groin pain is defined as pain with a duration of more than 6 weeks, regardless of onset.
Exercise type
Exercise type includes the type of muscle contraction: eccentric, concentric and isometric.
Muscle group
One or more targeted muscle groups will be described for each exercise.
Functional training
Functional training has been used as an addition to exercise-based rehabilitation protocols. This comprises running programmes and sport-specific drills.
Co-intervention
Co-intervention includes a number of treatments which are usually compared to the main treatment in a study or provided in conjunction with the exercises. This may include various forms of passive therapy or other therapeutic options.
Exercise dosage
It refers to the exercise characteristics which will define the load that each muscle group will eventually take during the rehabilitation process. According to Toigo & Boutellier, there are thirteen resistance exercise descriptors: load magnitude, number of repetitions, number of sets, rest in-between sets, number of exercise interventions, duration of the experimental period, duration of one repetition, rest in-between repetitions, time under tension, volitional muscle failure, range of motion, recovery time in-between sessions and exercise anatomical definition.
Supervision
Supervision may be presented in various types, such as supervision by the therapist, partial supervision or no supervision.
Equipment
Some of the exercises used in groin rehabilitation need no equipment to be performed, while others require some equipment. This equipment may be as simple as a soccer ball and elastic bands, or may be muscle training equipment such as weight pulley machine and the Fitter.
Progression criteria
Progression criteria are defined as the requirements which have to be met by the player in order to move to the next rehabilitation phase or to complete the rehabilitation programme. These can be time-based or be based on milestones which are related to specific functional requirements.
Return to sport criteria
Descriptions of the return to sport definition, e.g. return to full team training, or return to match, as well as described criteria will be included
