Leveraging occasional reinforced extinction via mental imagery of the unconditioned stimulus to optimize extinction learning
Exposure therapy is an effective approach for the treatment of various anxiety disorders. However, a substantial number of patients relapse, i.e. experience a return of fear, after successful exposure-based therapy (Craske et al., 2018). Several strategies have been suggested to facilitate fear extinction - a central mechanism underlying the reduction of fear in exposure-based treatments. One promising approach to enhance fear extinction involves the occasional presentation of the unconditioned stimulus (US) during extinction training (occasional reinforced extinction, ORE) – either unpaired or paired with the conditioned stimulus (CS). Various experimental studies (e.g., Culver et al., 2018; Lipp et al., 2021; Quintero et al., 2021; Shiban et al., 2015; Thompson et al., 2018; Vervliet et al., 2010) provide initial evidence for a less pronounced return of fear after paired or unpaired presentations of the US during extinction training. However, given that the confrontation with events, which may have contributed to the development of pathological fear, may not be viable or ethical during exposure therapy, the transfer of the ORE procedure used in previous laboratory studies into the clinical setting seems limited. One possibility to facilitate the transfer of the ORE approach into clinical practice could be the use of vivid imagination of the US during extinction training instead of actual exposure to the US. Previous studies have demonstrated that mental imagery of aversive events (e.g., imagery of an electric shock) elicit similar fear responses as would be evoked during actual experience of the aversive event (Lang et al., 1980; Mueller et al., 2019). In the present study, we aim to investigate the extinction of fear responses in a novel approach using the ORE protocol using mental imagery to elicit the emotional response originally associated with the US. In the present study, participants will undergo a differential fear conditioning protocol (presentation of two pictures; one picture is paired with the presentation of an electric shock), an extinction training phase, and return of fear tests (spontaneous recovery, reacquisition and reinstatement of fear). Participants will receive either a non-reinforced, occasional paired reinforced, or occasional unpaired extinction training. During the paired reinforced and unpaired extinction training, participants will be instructed to produce a vivid image of the US (i.e., the electric shock)

A comprehensive account of the stateof-the-art on types of construction of the motor, closed loop controllers in position, speed and current/torque control and recent trends in inverters, sensors etc. are given. Techniques for mechanical sensors elimination are discussed in detail. Special efforts made to reduce torque ripples, noise and vibrations are described. The impact of microelectronics through integrated chips used in the control of PMBLDC motor drives is given. The increasing applications of this drive due to improved performance and its cost reduction are also enlisted
