Sharing Model Uncertainty
This paper examines efficient allocations in economies where consumers exhibit heterogeneous smooth ambiguity preferences and face model uncertainty with a common set of identifiable models. Aggregate endowment is ambiguous. We characterize economies where the representative consumer is of the smooth ambiguity type and derive efficient sharing rules. Heterogeneous ambiguity aversion leads to sharing rules that systematically differ from those in vNM-economies. The representative consumer’s ambiguity aversion differs from that of the typical consumer; this leads to more compelling asset-pricing predictions. We focus on point-identified models but show that our insights extend to partially-identified models
The Internet of Things (IoT) represents the future of IT, its main purpose is facilitating our daily life through the ubiquity of the different IT services that ensure the automation of our different tasks. In order to achieve this goal, a variety of facilities are needed, starting with sensors and actuators, as well as high-speed wired and wireless networks such as FTTH, 4G, and 5G. Given the diversity of equipment, protocols, technologies, and companies involved in the development of the IoT, there are many challenges to deal with, namely security, connectivity, compatibility, longevity, standards, and intelligent action. IT security is the major concern of the IoT, because of its various existing security gaps on one side and its involvement in everyday life on the other one. These security concerns range from large issues, such as health in e-Health solutions, to small fertility issues, such as the TV chain that we watched, and our awakening time. The aim of this thesis is to deeply study the Internet of Things namely its technologies, protocols, standards, applications, challenges, etc. Then focus on its major challenge, which is security in its different architectural levels. Following this study of the various security problems and vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers, our objective will be to improve the security of the Internet of Things by enhancing the lightweight security protocols in order to use its various applications, solutions, and services in a safe and secure mannerL'internet des objets (IoT) représente l'avenir de l'informatique, son but principal consiste à faciliter notre vie quotidienne via l'omniprésence des différents services informatiques qui assurent l'automatisation de nos différentes tâches.
Feature Calibration for Computer Models
International audienceComputer model calibration involves using partial and imperfect observations of the real world to learn which values of a model’s input parameters lead to outputs that are consistent with real-world observations. When trying to calibrate to high-dimensional output (e.g., a spatial field), what is important to the credibility of the model is that key emergent physical phenomena are represented, even if not faithfully or in the right place. Commonly used approaches, which represent the output as a linear combination of a small set of basis vectors, often fail to appropriately compare model output and data when the position of key emergent phenomena shifts, consequently leading to poor model calibration. To overcome this, we present kernel-based history matching (KHM), generalizing the meaning of the technique sufficiently to be able to project model outputs and observations into a higher-dimensional feature space, where patterns can be compared without their location necessarily being fixed. We develop the technical methodology, present an expert-driven kernel selection algorithm, and then apply the techniques to the calibration of boundary layer clouds for the French climate model IPSL-CM
Endogenous growth, spatial dynamics and convergence: A refinement
The dynamics of capital distribution across space are an important topic in economic geography and, more recently, in growth theory. In particular, the spatial AK model has been intensively studied in the latter stream. It turns out that the positivity of optimal capital stocks over time and space for any initial capital spatial distribution has not been entirely settled even in the simple linear AK case. We use Ekeland’s variational principle together with Pontrya-gin’s maximum principle to solve an optimal spatiotemporal AK model with a state constraint (non-negative capital stock), where the capital law of motion follows a diffusion equation. We derive the necessary optimality conditions to ensure the solution satisfies the state constraints for all times and locations. The maximum principle enables the reduction of the infinite-horizon optimal control problem to a finite-horizon problem, ultimately proving the uniqueness of the optimal solution with positive capital and the non-existence of such a solution when the time discount rate is either too large or too small
Alligat0R: Pre-Training Through Co-Visibility Segmentation for Relative Camera Pose Regression
International audiencePre-training techniques have greatly advanced computer vision, with CroCo's cross-view completion approach yielding impressive results in tasks like 3D reconstruction and pose regression. However, cross-view completion is ill-posed in non-covisible regions, limiting its effectiveness. We introduce Alligat0R, a novel pre-training approach that replaces cross-view learning with a covisibility segmentation task. Our method predicts whether each pixel in one image is covisible in the second image, occluded, or outside the field of view, making the pre-training effective in both covisible and non-covisible regions, and provides interpretable predictions. To support this, we present Cub3, a large-scale dataset with 5M image pairs and dense covisibility annotations derived from the nuScenes and ScanNet datasets. Cub3 includes diverse scenarios with varying degrees of overlap. The experiments show that our novel pre-training method Alligat0R significantly outperforms CroCo in relative pose regression.

Rapid emergence of a maths gender gap in first grade
International audiencePreventing gender disparities in mathematics is a worldwide preoccupation. In infancy and early childhood, boys and girls exhibit similar core knowledge of number and space. Gender disparities in maths are, therefore, thought to primarily reflect an internalization of the sociocultural stereotype that ‘girls are bad at maths’. However, where, when and how widely this stereotype becomes entrenched remains uncertain. Here, we report the results of a 4-year longitudinal assessment of language and mathematical performance of all French first and second graders (2,653,082 children). Boys and girls exhibited very similar maths scores upon school entry, but a gender gap in favour of boys became highly significant after 4 months of schooling and reached an effect size of about 0.20 after 1 year. These findings were repeated each year and varied only slightly across family, class or school type and socio-economic level. Although schooling correlated with age, exploiting the near-orthogonal variations indicated that the gender gap increased with schooling rather than with age. These findings point to the first year of school as the time and place where a maths gender gap emerges in favour of boys, thus helping focus the search for solutions and interventions.
