Automated rotor imbalance monitoring using high-frequency SCADA data
No full textInternational audienceWind turbines generate a large volume of operational data. In the industry, the standard practice for collecting and analyzing SCADA has been to aggregate data at 10-minute intervals. While manufacturers typically collect data at a higher frequency, this level of detail has not always been made available to the end users, such as wind farm owners and asset managers.In the past the 10-minute data aggregation interval provided good a balance between data volume and detail, but with the increasing focus on data-driven decision making and the availability of new technologies and tools for data analysis and storage, there is a growing demand for access to higher frequency datasets. With access to data analytics using higher frequencies, wind turbine owners and asset managers will gain deeper insights into turbine performance, identify potential issues more quickly, and ultimately optimize operations.In this study, we investigate the harmonic analysis of the high-frequency rotor speed signal to detect rotor imbalance, with a focus on ensuring that the final metric is both usable and compatible with current asset management practices. We also present real-life examples, where the new metric provided valuable insights for asset managers on a day-to-day basis
La rencontre entre une anthropologue et un roboticien: Entre croisements épistémologiques et traductions
No full textInternational audienceCette communication analysera ma rencontre, une anthropologue spécialiste des religions afro-brésiliennes avec un roboticien spécialiste de la mécanique. Lors de nos premiers échanges, j’ai introduit quelques concepts anthropologiques à mon collègue roboticien. J’ai été étonnée de la façon dont il a traduit ces concepts : je parle d’« animisme », il comprend « animation », « animer », « donner du mouvement » ; je parle d’énergie, de « charger un objet d’énergie sacrée », il comprend « électronique », « physique » ; je parle «agence », il comprend « intelligence ». Ne vous trompez pas, il ne s’agissait pas d’une simple confusion terminologique. Ces termes-là continuaient à faire du sens à Henrique même après lui avoir expliqué les définitions et les enjeux anthropologiques de chacun. Je me suis rendu compte qu’il faisait en effet des traductions de mon univers pour le sien. Des connexions, des ponts. Moi aussi je pouvais parler « sa langue », lorsqu’il me présentait ses recherches portant sur la souplesse des mouvements des robots et des différentes sensations que cela provoque dans l’interaction humain-machine : je disais de la « souplesse » de l’anthropologie, de sa facilité à se connecter avec d’autres sciences. Lors de mes recherches précédentes, je me suis intéressée aux relations entre humains et non-humains et à l’agence de ces deniers dans la vie des humains. Dans mon terrain, l’univers des religions afro-brésiliennes, les non-humains sont les esprits, entités et divinités (Fontes 2015, 2021). Pour ça, j’ai travaillé avec des concepts comme celui d’agency d’Alfred Gell (1998) et celui d’affect de Jeanne Favret-Saada (1997). Je me suis également intéressée à une collection ethnographique composée d’objets religieux et sacrés, en suivant la méthode de la biographie des objets (Appadurai, 1996 ; Kopytoff, 1986 ; Bonnot 2005 ; Fontes 2019, 2022). Je propose donc de changer un peu mon regard habitué à travailler sur l’agence des nonhumains auprès des religions afro-brésiliennes (Fontes, 2015 ; 2021), pour réfléchir à une nouvelle catégorie de non-humains : les robots. Dans un premier moment, il s’agira pour la présente communication de proposer une analyse épistémologique de cette rencontre : comment un roboticien reçoit-il certaines préoccupations anthropologiques concernant la robotique ? Pouvons-nous réinventer et réinterpréter des concepts anthropologiques en robotique ? Ou mieux : pouvons-nous inventer des nouveaux concepts robotiques inspirés par l’anthropologie ? Quels nouveaux enjeux l’anthropologie peut-elle apporter à la robotique ? Dans un deuxième temps, nous proposerons un regard plus dirigé aux robots en tant qu’objets : qu’est-ce que fait d’un objet un robot ? Pourrions-nous faire la différence entre un robot et un objet robotique ? Comment la notion de compliance physique (robotique souple) joue dans la capacité d’adaptation pour qu'un objet devienne un "partenaire" à nos yeux, à partir d’une interaction physique qui serait plus fluide ? Cela pourrait-il ainsi jouer sur l’acceptabilité dans les deux sens de la relation robot x humain

LEADERSHIP AMIDST THE PANDEMIC: EXPLORING THE EXPERIENCES OF SCHOOL HEADS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BASIC EDUCATION-LEARNING CONTINUITY PLAN (BE-LCP)
No full textInternational audienceThe COVID-19 pandemic has presented significant challenges to the educational system, necessitating rapid adaptation. To address this, the Department of Education implemented the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP), which focused on the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) and entrusted its implementation to school principals. This qualitative phenomenological study aimed to gain insight into the experiences of 33 public school heads in the City of Batac's Schools Division during the implementation of the BE-LCP, specifically how they demonstrated leadership by the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH) and the challenges they faced and practices they employed to overcome them.Structured interviews were conducted to collect data, which was analyzed using thematic analysis. The study revealed that the school heads demonstrated strategic leadership abilities, efficiently managed school operations and resources, and supported remote teaching and learning with the help of teachers and parents who served as learning facilitators, using printed modular learning and supplemental materials. However, the school administrators encountered difficulties with enrollment, introducing the new teaching method, staff involvement, accessibility of instructional resources, and collaboration with stakeholders. They overcame these obstacles with the help of parents, barangay authorities, the LGU, and other stakeholders. The school heads successfully implemented the BE-LCP, demonstrating their resilience and adaptability in coping with unusual conditions and ensuring uninterrupted education for their pupils. To ensure that learning continues despite challenges or crises in the future, it is recommended that school heads remain focused on the department's vision, mission, core values, and objectives, follow divisional standards, and adhere to their mantra
