Uniform Consistency for Functional Conditional U-Statistics Using Delta-Sequences
International audienceU-statistics are a fundamental class of statistics derived from modeling quantities of interest characterized by responses from multiple subjects. U-statistics make generalizations the empirical mean of a random variable X to the sum of all k-tuples of X observations. This paper examines a setting for nonparametric statistical curve estimation based on an infinite-dimensional covariate, including Stute’s estimator as a special case. In this functional context, the class of “delta sequence estimators” is defined and discussed. The orthogonal series method and the histogram method are both included in this class. We achieve almost complete uniform convergence with the rates of these estimators under certain broad conditions. Moreover, in the same context, we show the uniform almost-complete convergence for the nonparametric inverse probability of censoring weighted (I.P.C.W.) estimators of the regression function under random censorship, which is of its own interest. Among the potential applications are discrimination problems, metric learning and the time series prediction from the continuous set of past values

Global epidemiology of Equine Influenza viruses; “A possible emerging zoonotic threat in future” an extensive systematic review with evidence
International audienceAbstract There are different opinions around the World regarding the zoonotic capability of H3N8 equine influenza viruses. In this report, we have tried to summarize the findings of different research and review articles from Chinese, English, and Mongolian Scientific Literature reporting the evidence for equine influenza virus infections in human beings. Different search engines i.e. CNKI, PubMed, ProQuest, Chongqing Database, Mongol Med, and Web of Knowledge yielded 926 articles, of which 32 articles met the inclusion criteria for this review. Analyzing the epidemiological and Phylogenetic data from these articles, we found a considerable experimental and observational evidence of H3N8 equine influenza viruses infecting human being in different parts of the World in the past. Recently published articles from Pakistan and China have highlighted the emerging threat and capability of equine influenza viruses for an epidemic in human beings in future. In this review article we have summarized the salient scientific reports published on the epidemiology of equine influenza viruses and their zoonotic aspect. Additionally, several recent developments in the start of 21st century, including the transmission and establishment of equine influenza viruses in different animal species i.e. camels and dogs, and presumed encephalopathy associated to influenza viruses in horses, have documented the unpredictable nature of equine influenza viruses. In sum up, several reports has highlighted the unpredictable nature of H3N8 EIVs highlighting the need of continuous surveillance for H3N8 in equines and humans in contact with them for novel and threatening mutations.Resumo Existem diferentes opiniões em todo o mundo a respeito da capacidade zoonótica dos vírus da influenza equina H3N8. Neste relatório, tentamos resumir os resultados de diferentes pesquisas e artigos de revisão da literatura científica chinesa, inglesa e mongol relatando as evidências de infecções pelo vírus da influenza equina em seres humanos. Diferentes mecanismos de busca, como CNKI, PubMed, ProQuest, Chongqing Database, Mongol Med e Web of Knowledge geraram 926 artigos, dos quais 32 atenderam aos critérios de inclusão para esta revisão. Analisando os dados epidemiológicos e filogenéticos desses artigos, encontramos uma considerável evidência experimental e observacional de vírus da influenza equina H3N8 infectando seres humanos em diferentes partes do mundo no passado. Artigos publicados recentemente no Paquistão e na China destacaram a ameaça emergente e a capacidade dos vírus da influenza equina para uma epidemia em seres humanos no futuro. Neste artigo de revisão, resumimos os relatórios científicos relevantes publicados sobre a epidemiologia dos vírus da influenza equina e seu aspecto zoonótico. Além disso, vários desenvolvimentos recentes no início do século 21, incluindo a transmissão e estabelecimento de vírus da influenza equina em diferentes espécies animais, ou seja, camelos e cães, e presumida encefalopatia associada aos vírus da influenza em cavalos, documentaram a natureza imprevisível dos vírus da influenza equina. Em suma, vários relatórios destacaram a natureza imprevisível de H3N8 EIVs destacando a necessidade de vigilância contínua para H3N8 em equinos e humanos em contato com eles para novas mutações ameaçadoras
A Journey into the Multifaceted Universe of Coordinates Change, Basis Transformation, Dual Spaces, and Invariance
The present work aims as developing, in a progressive manner, several concepts from linear and multilinear algebra that are progressively integrated from basic operations up to rudiments of tensors. The covered subjects include brief historical remarks, the key concept of linearity, unit conversion, change of variables and coordinates, inner product, bases and their transformation, dual spaces and co-vectors, Einstein notation, invariance, and some rudiments of tensors. Several graphic illustrations and diagrams of the covered concepts and methods, as well as numeric case-examples have been included in order to contribute to consolidate the presented material
Heterogeneity or consistency across life domains? An analysis of disparities between second-generation migrants and the Swedish majority population
International audienceMigrant integration is theoretically conceived as a multidimensional process where integration in one life domain does not necessarily imply integration in another domain. An expanding literature analyses several aspects of the lives of migrants and their children. However, to date research has mainly assessed how attainment in one life domain influences attainment in another domain. This study analyses the extent to which attainment across multiple life domains–socioeconomic, social and residential–coincides among second-generation migrants. Using Swedish register data, we compare 10,450 children of migrants from six regions of origin, who were aged 30–40 in 2015, to individuals born in Sweden with two Swedish-born parents. Multigenerational linkages moreover allow us to control for parental socioeconomic status as well as residential characteristics when growing up. Our analyses reveal considerable disparities in social and residential outcomes between second-generation migrants and the Swedish majority group, as well as across origin groups. Differences in socioeconomic attainment are comparatively small once we account for parental characteristics and residential background. Second-generation Turkish and Middle Eastern migrants differ in terms of their social and residential outcomes when compared to the Swedish majority group, but have commensurate socioeconomic attainment. In contrast, we find overall consistency across domains for Polish, ex-Yugoslav and Latin American second-generation migrants. Our findings underline the importance of studying outcomes in multiple domains in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the life situation of second-generation migrants

L’intercréativité dans le flow collectif en situation d’apprentissage ludo-fictionnelle
International audienceCet article vous propose de plonger dans des mondes fantastiques au côté de Captain America ou de la princesse Leia Organa. Dans le cadre de ce travail exploratoire intégré au projet pédagogique et de recherche en ludopédagogie EdUTeam, nous souhaitons réfléchir sur la notion d’intercréativité (construction collective de l’histoire à partir d’une graine scénaristique initiale) en formation afin de voir quel peut-être son impact sur la notion de flow collectif de situations d’apprentissage ludo-fictionnelles. Grâce à six journées d’expérimentation avec trente-cinq étudiants de Licence, nous montrons que l’intercréativité et le flow d’équipe sont bien présents mais qu’il est difficile d’identifier si l’intercréativité est une source ou une conséquence du flow collectif. Toutefois, ces résultats particulièrement positifs nous permettent d’entrevoir des améliorations substantielles aux dispositifs ludopédagogiques en management
Series acceleration formulas obtained from experimentally discovered hypergeometric recursions
International audienceIn 2010, Kh. Hessami Pilehrood and T. Hessami Pilehrood introduced generating function identities used to obtain series accelerations for values of Dirichlet's function, via the Markov--Wilf--Zeilberger method. Inspired by these past results, together with related results introduced by Chu et al., we introduce a variety of hypergeometric recurrences. We prove these recurrences using the WZ method, and we apply these recurrences to obtain series acceleration identities. We introduce a family of summations generalizing a Ramanujan-type series for due to Guillera, and a family of summations generalizing an accelerated series for Catalan's constant due to Lupa\c{s}, and many related results
On paracomposition and change of variables in Paradifferential operators
Updated version after referee reports and reviewIn this paper we revisit the hypothesis needed to define the "paracomposition" operator, an analogue to the classic pull-back operation in the low regularity setting, first introduced by S. Alinhac in [3]. More precisely we do so in two directions. First we drop the diffeomorphism hypothesis. Secondly we give estimates in global Sobolev and Zygmund spaces. Thus we fully generalize Bony's classic paralinearasition theorem giving sharp estimates for composition in Sobolev and Zygmund spaces. In order to prove that the new class of operations benefits of symbolic calculus properties when composed by a paradifferential operator, we discuss the pull-back of pseudodifferential and paradifferential operators which then become Fourier Integral Operators. In this discussion we show that those Fourier Integral Operators obtained by pull-back are pseudodifferential or paradifferential operators if and only if they are pulled-back by a diffeomorphism that is a change of variable. We give a proof of the change of variables in paradifferential operators. Finally we study the cutoff defining paradifferential operators and it's stability by successive composition. It is known that the cutoff becomes worse after each composition, we give a slightly refined version of the cutoffs proposed by H\"ormander in [14] for which give an optimal estimate on the support of the cutoff after composition
