Centrifuge experiment and numerical study on the dynamic response of air-backed plate to underwater explosion

    Get PDF
This work compares experimental and numerical results concerning the elastic dynamic response of air-backed plate to underwater explosion. Experiments were performed in a centrifuge, both the shock loadings and structure responses were tested, and the bubble oscillation considering centrifugal force was predicted with Geer and Hunter model. The experimental and numerical results illustrates that the centrifugal force have no effect on shockwave for the short duration of action, and with the increase of centrifugal force, the bubble pulse motion cycle, maximum bubble radius, and peak pressure of bubble pulse decreased; both the peak of high-frequency and low-frequency response of the plate decline slightly when alpha damping rising ,the high-frequency response mode almost have no change with different alpha damping ,while, the low-frequency response tends to be an obvious oscillation waveform when the alpha damping is too low; although the difference of the peak acceleration owing to shock wave and bubble reaches to tens of times, the strain responses caused by the two factors are very close, which enucleates that the train response is related to shock energy and has a higher sensitivity to time accumulation; both the peak acceleration and peak strain due to the shock wave remain steady and the two kinds of response by bubble pulse decrease with the centrifugal force increasing; when the target position is more close to the area that the shock wave vertically impact ,the linear correlation between peak velocity and shock factor is much better. Controlling quarter car suspension system by proportional derivative and positive position feedback controllers with time delay

    Get PDF
The active car suspension system is presented here to suppress the vibration of the car by applying proportional derivative (PD) and positive position feedback (PPF) controllers with time delay. The control signal output of the controller is applied electrically to the magneto-rheological (MR) damper or Electrical-rheological (ER) damper which is attached parallel to the passive components to improve the suppression of the vibration. The electrical control signal is produced by electronic circuits or programmable logic controller and the two-position sensor feedback signal which are connected to the controller. The approximate solutions of PD and PPF suspension systems are obtained by applying multiple time scales perturbation method. The effects of parameters variation of both the system and the controllers are investigated to achieve the best performance. Simulation results show good performance of the designed controllers

Signal denoising based on empirical mode decomposition

    Get PDF
The present paper discusses the empirical mode decomposition technique relative to signal denoising, which is often included in signal preprocessing. We provide some basics of the empirical mode decomposition and introduce intrinsic mode functions with the corresponding illustrations. The problem of denoising is described in the paper and we illustrate denoising using soft and hard thresholding with the empirical mode decomposition. Furthermore, we introduce a new approach to signal denoising in the case of heteroscedastic noise using a classification statistics. Our denoising procedure is shown for a harmonic signal and a smooth curve corrupted with white Gaussian heteroscedastic noise. We conclude that empirical mode decomposition is an efficient tool for signal denoising in the case of homoscedastic and heteroscedastic noise. Finally, we also provide some information about denoising applications in vibrational signal analysis

Dynamical analysis of a thin-walled rectangular plate with preload force

    Get PDF
Finite element (FE) models are utilized to investigate the influence of preload force and the stress stiffening on the dynamic characteristics of a thin-walled rectangular plate. An experimental platform system is established to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the specimen using the resonance method. Simulation and experimental results agree well with each other, which validates the effectiveness of the FE model. The results show that the preload force not only improves the overall dynamic performances of the thin-walled plate but also contributes to the local stiffness of the loading position because of the generation of stress

    Get PDF
The machine industry has undergone several developments in the past years, and reducing the cost and time required for machine designing is important. In this study, the vibration characteristics of a precision grinding machine were obtained through experimental modal analysis and finite element analysis. The experimental modal analysis employed single point excitation, and the equipment used to determine the frequency response of the grinding machine comprised a hammer, an accelerometer, and a spectrum analyzer. In addition, the resonance frequency, damping factor, and modal shape of the grinding machine were determined. The natural frequency, modal shape, and interface stiffness were determined through finite element analysis. Finally, the theoretical model and the experimental modal analysis models were compared, and get closer to the actual situation of a model to conduct several times analysis. Thus, this paper presents a reliable and convenient method to study the characteristics of machine tools; this method can reduce unnecessary costs and find structural weaknesses in machine designs for improvement

Research on dynamic characteristics of spiral basilar membrane after replacing artificial auditory ossicle based on the reconstructed human ear model

    Get PDF
In this paper, PATRAN software was used to establish a complete 3D finite element model of human ears, and it was then combined with NASTRAN software to analyze frequency responses. This paper conducted a detailed analysis on the dynamic parameters including umbo and stapes displacements of normal human ears under sound pressures 90 dB and 105 dB. The numerically computational results were compared with experimental data. When the analyzed frequency was less than 1000 Hz, the computational result of numerical simulation was well consistent with the upper limit. When the analyzed frequency was more than 1000 Hz, the computational result of numerical simulation was well consistent with the lower limit. Therefore, the numerically computational model was reliable. In addition, based on the verified model, this paper studied vibration characteristics of spiral basilar membrane after replacing artificial auditory ossicle based on the whole hearing system, and found that vibration characteristics of spiral basilar membrane had an obvious change at low and high frequencies after replacing artificial auditory ossicle TORP. Using finite element method to analyze vibration characteristics of spiral basilar membrane can well predict the hearing recovery effect after replacing artificial auditory ossicle. Compared with normal ears, the vibration level of spiral basilar membrane after replacing artificial auditory ossicle has slowed down in 100 Hz-600 Hz, 2000 Hz-4000 Hz and 7000 Hz-10000 Hz, and has been strengthened in 600 Hz-2000 Hz and 4000 Hz-7000 Hz, which provided some help for the hearing recovery at the high-frequency band

A novel magnetic fluid shock absorber with levitating magnets

    Get PDF
The paper presents a shock absorber whose working element includes two magnetic fluid rings around a group of magnets. The damping efficiency of this shock absorber is investigated by the free oscillations of an elastic plate and can be well explained with the classical equations of motion. In the shock absorber, a nonlinear equivalent stiffness is provided by the magnetic repulsion force, which controls the movement of the working element and varies in conformity to a power law. Through the theoretical and experimental study on the magnetic repulsion force, the nonlinear equivalent stiffness is determined and depends on the initial distance between the working element and the repulsion magnet. For an oscillation with the amplitude of 1mm and frequency of 1.1 Hz, the damping efficiency is inversely proportional to the nonlinear equivalent stiffness

Rolling bearing fault identification using multilayer deep learning convolutional neural network

    Get PDF
The vibration signal of rolling bearing is usually complex and the useful fault information is hidden in the background noise, therefore, it is a challenge to identify rolling bearing faults from the complex vibration environment. In this paper, a novel multilayer deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) method to identify rollings bearing fault is proposed. Firstly, in order to avoid the influence of different characteristics of the input data on the identification accuracy, a normalization preprocessing method is applied to preprocess the vibration signals of rolling bearings. Secondly, a multilayer CNN based on deep learning is designed in this paper to improve the fault identification accuracy of rolling bearing. Simulation data and experimental data analysis results show that the proposed method has better performance than SVM method and ANN method without any manual feature extractor design

Application of VPMCD method based on PLS for rolling bearing fault diagnosis

    Get PDF
To address the non-stationary and nonlinear characteristics of vibration signals produced by rolling bearings and the noise pollution of acquired signals, a fault diagnosis method based on singular value decomposition (SVD), empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and variable predictive model-based class discrimination (VPMCD) is proposed in this paper. VPMCD is a novel pattern recognition method; however, according to the results obtained when the fault diagnosis method is applied to a small sample, the stability of the VPM constructed based on the least squares (LS) method is not sufficient, as demonstrated by the multiple correlations found between independent variables. This paper uses the partial least squares (PLS) method instead of the LS method to estimate the model parameters of VPMCD. Compared with the back-propagation neural network (BP-NN) and least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) methods, based on numerical examples, the method presented in this paper can effectively identify a faulty rolling bearing

Diagnosis of rolling element bearing fault arising in gearbox based on sparse morphological component analysis

    Get PDF
It is hard to diagnose the rolling element bearing fault occurring in gearbox due to the complexity and the probable mutual coupling among the kinds of signals. A novel diagnosis method of rolling element bearing fault arising in gearbox based on morphological component analysis (MCA) originating from sparse representation theory is proposed in the paper. By selecting proper dictionaries, different morphological components can be separated successfully from the complex rolling fault signal arising in gearbox, which helps to improve the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis result. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulations firstly. Then the proposed method is used in fault feature extracting of complex vibration signals collected from rotating machinery, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is further verified. Besides, the advantage of the proposed method over other relative method is presented
