Torsional vibration analysis of crank train with low friction losses
High level of mechanical efficiency is exacted from internal-combustion engines. The reduction of friction losses of crankshaft main bearings can significantly contribute to the enhancement of this efficiency. For this purpose, an innovative design of a crankshaft is developed. The potential of computational modelling during the development of this innovative crank train is described in the article. The dynamics of the whole crank train is solved by using a multi-body system software, where flexible finite-element bodies along with hydrodynamic bearings are incorporated. Regarding the simulation results, attention is paid to the torsional vibration and its analysis, including concept design of a torsional damper, because a reduction of friction losses is associated with the improvement of torsional vibration in this case
Dynamics analysis of the pitch control reducer for MW wind turbine
An analytic dynamics model was presented for the three-stage planetary transmission in the pitch control reducer for MW wind turbine based on the lumped-parameter method. The mechanical characteristic of the contact components was analyzed using the stiffness factor method. All the stiffness sub-matrices were combined to form the overall stiffness matrix of the three-stage transmission. According to the analytic model and the parameters of the pitch control gearbox, the movement differential equations were solved to investigate the natural frequencies and the vibration modes. Then, the undamped and damping forced vibration response were studied. A test rig was set up to measure the vibration displacement of the ring at the second stage and the output shaft under the nominal load condition, the comparison of the analytic forced vibration response with the experimental results validates the effectiveness of the lumped-parameter dynamics model for the pitch control reducer. This paper provides a reference for the dynamics optimization of multistage planetary transmission
Study on active vibration isolation system using neural network sliding mode control
In this paper, an active vibration isolation system based on hybrid algorithm is presented in a wide frequency band. Initially, a nonlinear magnetostrictive actuator model is used to establish the appropriate parameters by experiments, which make the actuator using in vibration isolation system work in a better linear dynamic performance, then the sliding mode algorithm modified by neural network, a hybrid algorithm is proposed as the active control controller, and its stability is also analyzed by Lyapunov theory. Furthermore, a dynamic virtual prototype model of active vibration isolation is established to carry out the co-simulation with Adams and Matlab/Simulink, and the results show that under the difference excitations, the neural network sliding mode controller exhibits a good control performance, and the active vibration isolation can effectively improve the vibration isolation effect, reduce the force transmitted to the base and broaden the vibration isolation bandwidth

Resonance characteristics analysis of the power reflux hydraulic transmission system
The power reflux hydraulic transmission system (PRHTS), which is a new continuously variable transmission system, is put forward to enhance the efficiency of the torque converter. This study shows that the basic structure and operating principle of the PRHTS. Because the six-cylindered diesel engine’s operation range is between 40 Hz and 150 Hz, resonance point of the PRHTS should not exist in resonance region of engine. In order to study the resonance characteristics of the PRHTS, the dynamic model of the PRHTS is established by merging the planetary gear train dynamic model and torque converter dynamic model. This study also researches the amplitude-frequency characteristic curves of the PRHTS with different speed ratio and the effect of the torsional stiffness and damping coefficient to the amplitude-frequency characteristic of the PRHTS. The simulation result shows that the resonance frequency of the PRHTS could be excluded from engine’s operation range and the amplitude will decrease by changing the torsional stiffness and damping coefficient of the coupling
Wavelet support vector machine and multi-layer perceptron neural network with continues wavelet transform for fault diagnosis of gearboxes
In this paper, a method based on wavelet support vector machine (SVM) with OAOT algorithm, multi-layer perceptron (MLP) and Morlet wavelet transform were designed to diagnose different types of fault in a gearbox. A scale selection criterion based on the maximum relative energy to Shannon entropy ratio is proposed to determine optimal decomposition scale for wavelet analysis. Moreover, energy and entropy of the wavelet coefficients are used as two new features along with other statistical parameters as input of the classifier. The results showed that the WSVM identified the fault categories of gearbox more accurately as compared to the MLP network
Acoustic calculation in low frequency sonopheresis based on bubble dynamics
As a type of transdermal permeability enhancement, low frequency sonophoresis (LFS) has been studied for more than twenty years. The acoustic pressure in LFS is a crucial ultrasonic parameter to improve the permeability, but it is difficult to measure in the drug donor because of its small size and narrow shape. In this paper, an acoustic-piezoelectric coupling model is established based on bubble dynamics, which can be utilized to calculate the acoustic pressure distributions in LFS using a commercial finite element software called COMSOL multiphysics. The calculated results of acoustic pressure are in accordance with the measured values, so this model has great potential for theoretical analyses in acoustic fields of LFS. Calculated and experimental results show that the maximum acoustic pressure is under the transducer’s head, and the value dropped as away from the head due to the acoustic attenuation caused by cavitation; the transducer head should be closer to the skin to obtain larger acoustic pressure on the skin. Therefore, this model can be used to simulate and analyze the characteristics of acoustic fields, as a theoretical tool for the structural design of the ultrasonic transducer applied in LFS
Analysis and prediction on the cutting process of constrained damping boring bars based on PSO-BP neural network model
Firstly, this paper computed the static and dynamic characteristics of common boring bars and constrained damping boring bars respectively, and the correctness of the computational model in time-frequency domain was also validated by experiments. Modal frequencies of constrained damping boring bars were obviously more than those of common boring bars, which could effectively avoid structural resonance in low frequency and had an obvious advantage in improving anti-vibration performance of boring bars. The absolute value of the maximum vibration acceleration of common boring bars was 13.1 m/s2, while the absolute value of the maximum vibration acceleration of constrained damping boring bars was 9.1 m/s2. The maximum vibration acceleration decreased by 30.5 %. The maximum vibration displacement of common boring bars was 5.2 mm and corresponding frequency was 201 Hz. The maximum vibration displacement of constrained damping boring bars was 2.3 mm and corresponding frequency was 235 Hz. When the analyzed frequency was lower than the frequency with the maximum vibration displacement, the displacement spectrum of common boring bars had more peak values. Thus, it was clear that constrained damping boring bars had an obvious advantage in improving vibration characteristics. The impact of cutting speed, feed rate and back cutting depth on vibration characteristics was studied respectively. Results showed that the vibration of constrained damping boring bars gradually decreased with the increase of cutting speed and gradually increased with the increase of feed rate and back cutting depth. In addition, the amplitude and frequency of vibration displacement spectrum of boring bars were basically unchanged no matter how cutting parameters changed. In order to quickly predict the vibration characteristic, BP neural network and PSO-BP neural network were respectively used to predict the cutting process of boring bars. When the iteration number of BP neural network was 300, iterative error was 0.00015 which was far more than the set target error. When the iteration number of PSO-BP neural network was 215, iterative error was converged to the set target error. Therefore, PSO-BP neural network had an obvious advantage in predicting the cutting process of boring bars. In addition, the predicted result of PSO-BP neural network was consistent with the experimental result, which showed that the neural network model in this paper was effective
Research on transverse vibration characteristics of rope change device with clamping chain transmission in lifting system
In order to reduce load impact and hydraulic leakage happened in the process of locked rope switching or stroke arrival for the present rope changing devices, a novel type of rope changing device with clamping chain transmission is designed based on the “pipe forming mechanism”. The new device fundamentally improves the safety and stability of steel-rope. By theoretical deduction, the steel-rope transverse vibrations in rope changing of the new device are calculated. Results show that the compacting force of locked-rope mechanism can reduce the transverse vibration amplitude by 80 % or more, which is caused by the polygon effect in chain transmission; as the increasing rigidity of locking disc spring, the limitation for transverse vibration displacement of wire rope becomes stronger, and the effect is fading when the rigidity reaches a certain value. Transverse vibration trends of steel-rope from test are consistent with the theoretical calculation results, which verify the correctness of the theoretical calculation; The maximum vibration amplitude of steel-rope is less than 0.4mm, effectively limiting the transverse vibration caused by the polygon effect in chain transmission and making the steel-rope work continuously and smoothly
Strength or force reduction factors for steel buildings: MDOF vs SDOF systems
The nonlinear seismic responses of steel buildings with perimeter moment resisting frames (MRF), modeled as complex 3D MDOF systems, are calculated and the ductility demands, ductility reduction factors and the force reduction factors (R), are studied. Equivalent 3D models with spatial MRF, two-dimensional models, and equivalent SDOF systems (SD), are also considered. Results indicate that the global and local force reduction factors significantly vary from one structural representation to another and that they are much larger for the SD models. One of the reasons for this is that, although there is equivalence between the SD and MDOF models, the dissipated energy and the number of incursions in the inelastic range are significantly larger for the SD models. In addition, while for the SD models total plasticization occurs, for the SAC and EQ models, even for significant yielding, plastic hinges are developed only in a relatively small number of structural members; therefore, using the R factors of the SD models may be conservative. According to the results obtained in this research for the more realistic representation of the steel building (3D), the value of 8 suggested in many codes for the R factor for ductile MRF cannot be justified. It is only justified for the SD systems. The implication of this is that non-conservative designs may be obtained if so large value is used. More transparence is needed in the codes regarding the magnitude and the components involved in the R factor
