Incremental dynamic analysis of SDOF by using nonlinear earthquake accelerograms based on modified inverse Fourier transform
In evaluation of structures, performing nonlinear response of model over a time analysis or incremental dynamic analysis needs more time. Hence, it can be beneficial if the event history report is carried out with long time steps without loss of accuracy. This study includes a method to simplify of accelerograms meant on the change of their Fourier reports. So, the Fourier Spectrum of the accelerogram is initially determined. Next applying a PC code generation, the similar Inverse Fourier Convert is computed utilizing a comparatively large time stage, depending on the structure’s times; that is ordinarily five to ten times bigger than primary accelerogram’s duration stage to generate the visible accelerogram. This application from the simplified accelerogram apparently takes much less time. Results indicates that the analysis time can be reduced up to 80 % by using the proposed method. While the maximum response shows an error of merely five to ten percent, about the sort of structure and the characteristics of the records used
Three-dimensional operational modal analysis based on self-iteration principal component extraction and direct matrix assembly
This paper proposes a self-iteration principal component extraction (SIPCE) and direct matrix assembly method for three-dimensional structures. Different from calculating principal components (PCs) by matrix decomposition in traditional principal component analysis (PCA), SIPCE extracts PCs one by one through self-iteration, so SIPCE has lower space-time complexity. Besides that, it avoids singular-value and ill-posed problems of matrix decomposition. The previous method of solving three-dimensional structures is using modal coordinate response back general reversion of least square algorithm, while the new matrix assembly method calculates three-dimensional modal shapes at one time. So, the new matrix assembly method has less calculation error. The numerical simulation results in a cylindrical shell demonstrate that this method can be practically and effectively applied in operational modal analysis (OMA) of three-dimensional structures. The new method is also robust to noise, and has higher identification accuracy and lower space-time consumption than previous method
Simulation analysis on inner flow field and optimization design of air knife
This paper conducted a parametric modeling for air knife structure in a printing factory, used HYPERMESH software to divide the meshes of air model and combined with actual conditions to define various boundary conditions in the inner flow field of air knife. Meanwhile, this paper adopted fluid dynamics software Fluent to conduct numerical simulation for the internal airflow of air knife, obtained the distribution regulation of flow field, conducted a parametric modeling for air knife structure under many internal structural proposals through ANSYS design module based on the simulation computational result, conducted optimization design for the position of guide plates, the number of outlets and the size of return air tank in the detailed structure in the air knife in order to determine specific dimension parameters and optimal proposals. Based on the computational results of simulation, this paper found that the original air knife structure had a non-uniform flow field and low velocity at the inlet and outlets. With the increase of length of air knife, the velocity of the middle outlet reduced to zero and did not have obvious effects any more. Guide plates in the air knife had a great influence on the inner flow field of air knife. Through optimization design, the inner flow field of air knife became uniform when there was only one guide plate. When the guide plate was close to the front end of the air knife, the inner flow field of air knife was relatively uniform and velocity at the inlet and outlets was relatively high. This paper conducted a model design for air knives with different structural types and determined proposal 4 as the optimal design through repeated analysis. The design method in this paper could provide guidance for studying and designing air knife structures in the aspect of technological approach and theory
A novel tread model for tire modelling using experimental modal parameters
Modal parameter model acts as an analytical model of tire, because it can represent the entire tire characteristics, when applied to the tire modelling. However, without considering the effect of transfer characteristics of adjacent tread spring elements, the accuracy of modal parameter model may be limited in previous studies. Based on contact mechanics and the modal parameter model, a novel tread model is proposed considering tread transfer characteristics, and then a modified model using the modal parameters was obtained using the novel tread model. The effects of tire external characteristics were analyzed by modifying the modal parameter static vertical model. Finally, the experimental and calculated data were compared, the proposed tread model improved the accuracy of calculation. The results show that the tread transfer characteristics significantly affect contact length, i.e., by improving the predictive accuracy by 50 %, and the effect on improving the squat of tire can be ignored. The developed model may help to optimize tire modelling
Ride improvement of vehicle suspensions with switchable inerter based on force cancellation strategy
Inerter is a recent advancement in vehicle suspension that have been shown to be capable of improving vehicle ride comfort, however its ride improvement is less encouraging in the parallel layout. This study investigated the possibility of further ride improvement brought by vehicle suspensions with a switchable parallel inerter instead. In this theoretical study, the inerter was assumed to be on-off switchable based on semi-active force cancellation strategy. A two-degree-of-freedom quarter vehicle model was used to evaluate several cases of suspension system, which included ordinary passive suspension as reference, a system with switchable inerter and a system with both switchable damper and inerter. The model was solved mathematically with random road profile and step profile as ground excitations. Results showed that the use of switchable inerter in parallel to spring and damper in the different test cases was capable of reducing vertical sprung mass acceleration by a healthy 12 %, which is far superior to a mere 2 % achieved by a passive parallel inerter, as well as comparable to that achieved by a switchable damper. When both sprung mass acceleration and dynamic tire load were considered, comparison made on the Pareto fronts indicated that the switchable capability of an inerter managed to further improve the Pareto optimal sets over those obtained for cases with passive inerter
Experimental study of vortex-induced vibration for drilling risers under uniform flow current
An experiment was conducted in a deep water basin to investigate the vortex-induced vibration mechanism of a drilling riser. Various measurements were obtained by the fiber Bragg grating strain sensors, and data was analyzed by modal analysis method. Results show that the vibration mode of the drilling riser increases with the increasing flow velocity, and the vibration amplitude in the CF direction is larger than that in the IL direction. The vibrations in the CF and IL directions interact and mutually affect each other. The vibration mode in the IL direction is usually larger than that in the CF direction as the dominant vibration frequency is twice of that in the CF direction. Higher stresses may occur rather in the IL direction than in the CF direction. Hence, fatigue induced by the IL direction should also be taken into consideration when analyzing the fatigue life of a drilling riser. The three-time harmonic appears, and the phenomenon becomes more obvious as the flow velocity increased for the effect of the “2T” wake mode under the experiment condition. Displacement trajectories are significantly influenced by dominant vibration frequency and phase angle between the CF and IL directions. Crescent shapes, figure-eight, and inclined figure-eight are appeared in the experiment with the increasing flow velocity
Rolling mill chatter mechanism based on the unsteady lubrication performance
The unsteady lubrication is one of the major causes for self-excited vibration in rolling. But it is difficult to build a rolling chatter model which considers the unsteady lubrication state in roll bite. Using the regression exponential function model of rolling friction coefficient, a dynamic rolling process model was built. Coupling the dynamic rolling process model with a mill stand structure model, a chatter model which considers the unsteady lubrication state at roll bite was established. Based on the proposed chatter model, the friction coefficient, rolling force and critical velocity of a rolling mill stand under different working conditions were calculated. The computed results were compared to the test results. And it proves the validity of the proposed model. With the proposed chatter model, the effects of rolling process parameters and emulsion lubricant characteristic parameters on friction coefficient and critical velocity were both analyzed and discussed. The chatter model successfully introduces the unsteady friction model into the rolling mill chatter model. It better explains the negative damping effect of the rolling chatter and reflects the rolling mill dynamic vibration characteristic
Identification of harmonic load acting on an elastically supported thin plate linked with attachments
Plate-like structures in real mechanical system is always simplified and modeled as an elastically restrained thin plate loaded with stiffness or mass. The dynamic model of the plate distinguished with previous classic model is complex vibrational characteristics and merely proposed by numerical method. Accordingly, identification of harmonic load acting on this plate becomes difficult for hardly obtaining inverse equations or matrix from its response functions directly. To solve this problem, dynamic model of the plate is established by numeric method and combined with particle swarm optimization (PSO) method to reconstruct harmonic load by minimizing total error between vibration responses in identification and test. Then, it is used to deal with acceleration responses tested in an elastically supported plate derived by a harmonic load. Parameters of the harmonic load are identified and found to agree with those of real source by their comparison. Thus, it is concluded that harmonic load driving on the plate linked with elastic boundary and attachment can be identified accurately by proposed numeric model of this paper. Furthermore, acceleration distribution of the plate at modal frequencies and responses at different test point, which are acquired from identification and test, are demonstrated and discussed. It is revealed that the numeric model proposed in this paper identifies parameters of harmonic load mainly through tendency of vibration distribution on the plate, and the accuracies of its reconstruction results at some locations are limited
An adaptive stochastic resonance method for weak fault characteristic extraction in planetary gearbox
Planetary gearbox is widely used in rotating machinery and prone to damage and failure due to heavy load and complex operating conditions. Furthermore, due to heavy background noise and complicated transmission path, the fault characteristics imbedded in the acquired signals is very weak and difficult to be extracted. Therefore, it is a challenge task for extracting fault characteristics of planetary gearboxes. To tackle this task, this paper proposes an adaptive stochastic resonance method for weak fault characteristic extraction of planetary gearbox, where a chaos ant colony algorithm characterized global optimization ability is employed to achieve adaptive matching between potential parameters and thereby overcoming the local optimization shortcoming of traditional stochastic resonance. Simulation and planetary gearbox experiments with a missing tooth and broken tooth validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, respectively. The results show that the proposed method is not only able to extract weak fault characteristics but also superior to singular value decomposition method
Application of EMD-WVD and particle filter for gearbox fault feature extraction and remaining useful life prediction
Fault feature extraction and remaining useful life (RUL) prediction are important to condition based maintenance (CBM). In order to realize the fault feature extraction of gearbox vibration signal presenting nonlinear and non-Gaussian, the integration of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) are proposed in this paper. Taking the kurtosis as standard, the WVD is applied to some IMFs with larger kurtosis to calculate the time-frequency distribution, with an effective suppress on mode mixing and the cross-term interference. Afterwards, particle filter (PF) with the state space model based on Wiener process is proposed to predict the RUL of gearbox considering degradation feature, gearbox teeth wear and nonlinear and non-Gaussian system. The gearbox life cycle test shows that the EMD-WVD method can extract the valued characteristics of vibration signal accurately, and the particle filter can provide an effective way to predict the RUL of gearbox
