A unified Gram-Schmidt-Ritz formulation for vibration and active flutter control analysis of honeycomb sandwich plate with general elastic support

    Get PDF
An admissible function constructed by orthogonal polynomials is presented to investigate the vibration and active flutter control of Honeycomb sandwich plate with general elastic support in a supersonic airflow. The control strategies based on the displacement feedback and LQR method are applied by means of pasting the piezoelectric material on the surface of the plate structure. Employing the first-order piston theory to describe the aerodynamic loads, the governing equation of plate system with the piezoelectric actuator is established based on the Hamilton principle. The mode shapes are obtained using the admissible functions, which are a set of characteristic orthogonal polynomials generated directly by employing the Gram-Schmidt process, and the general elastic constraint is modeled using the artificial spring technology. The frequency and mode shape under different boundary are calculated by Rayleigh-Ritz method. The validity of the proposed approach is confirmed by comparing the results with those obtained from FEM and literatures. The phenomenon of mode jumping is observed with the increase of the aerodynamic pressure. The study of active control shows that, the increasement of displacement feedback gain improves the critical dynamic pressure

    Get PDF
The article presents equivalent mathematical models of a boring bar designed for deep boring, in a distributed and a discrete idealizations. A mathematical model describing coupled torsional and lateral vibrations of a boring bar is constructed in the form of a set of differential equations with lagging of the cutting process dynamics. A methodology for studying stability in small of the deep boring process using a characteristic quasi-polynomial is presented. The numerical-analytical results of the studies made it possible to discern stability regions in the parameter space of the model and to obtain relations for maximal cutting depth as a function of geometrical and technological parameters (stiffness, cutting velocity, feeding etc.) of the boring bar considered. It is noted that the obtained numerical-analytical results are in good agreement with experimental data

Feature extraction for rolling element bearing weak fault based on MOMEDA and ICEEMDAN

    Get PDF
There are always the nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics and periodic pulse in vibration signals of rolling element bearings when there are partial faults in those bearings. Improved Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (ICEEMDAN) overcomes the presence of spurious modes and residual noise in Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN), but it cannot clearly and accurately extract the weak fault feature of rolling element bearings under the strong background noise. Here, Multipoint Optimal Minimum Entropy Deconvolution Adjusted (MOMEDA) was proposed. A bearing simulator was used to collect vibration signals of bearing inner and outer race, which was enhanced by MOMEDA, decomposed into several Intrinsic Mode Functions(IMFs) by ICEEMDAN, and analyzed by the envelope demodulation, finally gaining the frequency of shaft speed, BPFI (ball pass frequency, inner race) and harmonics, sidebands spaced, BPFO (ball pass frequency, outer race) and harmonics. The results show that this method can be used to accurately extract different frequency components of bearing fault vibration signals and diagnose bearing different fault location

Positional control of rotary servo cart system using generalized dynamic inversion

    Get PDF
This paper presents the design approach of Generalized Dynamic Inversion (GDI) for angular position control of SRV02 rotary servo base system. In GDI, linear first order constraint differential equations are formulated based on the deviation function of angular position and its rate, and its inverse is calculated using Moore-Penrose Generalized Inverse to realize the control law. The singularity problem related to generalized inversion is solved by the inclusion of dynamic scaling factor that will guarantee the boundedness of the elements of the inverted matrix and stable tracking performance. Numerical simulations and real-time experiment are performed to evaluate the tracking performance and robustness capabilities of the proposed control law considering nominal and perturbed model dynamics. For comparative analysis, the results of GDI is compared with conventional PID control. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate better angular position tracking for the square-wave and sinusoidal waveforms, which reveals the superiority, and agility of GDI control over conventional PID

Analysis method of impact echo based on variational mode decomposition

    Get PDF
The Impact Echo (IE) method is a widely used method for the detection of concrete structures. The signal has non-stationary characteristics. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is one of the typical ways of dealing with non-stationary signals. Due to EMD having mode overlap and a breakpoint effect, Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) has been proposed to overcome these problems. In this study, VMD is introduced into the analysis of the concrete component detection signals, and the impact echo analysis method based on VMD and marginal spectrum is established. The proposed method to solve the marginal spectrum is used in order to analyze the numerical simulation model’s IE signal. This method is able to correctly obtain the main frequency. When compared with the traditional Fourier spectrum, the marginal spectrum that is based on the VMD method shows that the band width that is present in the main frequency is narrow. Even in the presence of a highly noisy background, the method is able to correctly obtain the main frequency. At last, through the detection signal analysis of the non-defective concrete specimen and the concrete specimen with the circular hole, the results show that the proposed method can distinguish the signal in the different defective states of the concrete structures, which has obvious advantages compared with the Fourier spectrum

Research and application of Volterra series theory in rolling bearing fault state feature extraction

    Get PDF
Due to the generally strong non-linear characteristics of bearing failure, leading to overall mechanical system failure, fault state feature extraction is difficult. In this paper, a fault feature extraction method based on the Volterra series kernel under multi-pulse excitation is proposed. To avoid reliance on simplified models based on traditional mechanics, a nonlinear Volterra series model was constructed by introducing the input and output signals of the system, and using a low-order Volterra series kernel from the time domain and frequency domain, which was then solved using a multi-pulse excitation method. Furthermore, the state of the rolling bearing was determined using different characteristics of the corresponding generalized frequency response, and the current fault stage was inferred. The rolling bearing failure was validated experimentally, and it was shown that the Volterra series model can be more easily used to extract fault characteristics and trends of a rolling bearing in comparison to the traditional wavelet algorithm, therefore serving as a better method for fault prediction

The simulation model of sucker rod string transverse vibration under the space buckling deformation excitation and rod-tubing eccentric wear in vertical wells

    Get PDF
Considering the limitations of the static buckling theory on the eccentric wear of sucker rod and tubing, a new dynamic analysis method for the transverse vibration of sucker rod in the tubing is proposed. Taking the axial distribution load at the rod body and the dynamic load at the bottom into account, the dynamic model of transverse vibration is established based on the space buckling configuration of rod string which regarded as the deformation excitation during the down stroke. To solve the mathematical equations, the finite difference method is used to discretize the well depth, and the Newmark-beta method is used to discretize the time. Meanwhile, a restitution coefficient is introduced to depict the change of velocity and the momentum after the collision. The result shows the phenomenon of rod-tubing collision occurs mainly in the down stroke after the rod string post buckling; the collision force from the wellhead to the bottom increases gradually, of which distributed almost along the entire well depth; and the high frequency collision occurs below the neutral point where the collision force is also the biggest. Further, the collision frequency and the collision force decrease successively from the neutral point to the wellhead direction. But during the up stroke, few collisions occur, and the collision force is also very small. The simulation model is suitable for the eccentric wear analysis of rod-tubing, and provides a new theoretical basis for the optimal allocation of the centralizer

Cyclic performance of stiffened steel plate shear walls with various configurations of stiffeners

    Get PDF
In this study, experiments were conducted on five specimens of stiffened and unstiffened steel plate shear walls under cyclic loading. First, the specimens and frame design, material properties, and test setup were described. The behaviors of the unstiffened aluminum and steel infill plates were compared with three configurations of stiffened steel plate, i.e., cross-stiffened, circular-stiffened, and diagonally stiffened. The cross-sectional areas of the stiffeners were the same for all stiffened specimens. The results showed that the aluminum infill plate exhibited less ductility. By contrast, the unstiffened steel plate was very ductile, exhibiting a stable hysteresis curve and no tearing. The energy-absorption capacity of the steel plate shear walls increased for all stiffening configurations. Among all configurations, the cross-shaped stiffeners showed considerable increase in shear stiffness, ductility, and energy-dissipation capacity. The plate frame interaction method could predict the ultimate shear strengths of the unstiffened and cross-stiffened panels with good precision. The circular-stiffened steel shear wall seems to behave more desirably in high-amplitude displacements

The effect of noise on the comfort of passengers inside the tramway and its impact on traffic congestion in the urban area

    Get PDF
The tramway is a mean of transport which is used frequently in many cities around the world, because it improves the offer of public transport through its important capacity of transporting. This may ameliorate the state of road traffic by reducing the number of vehicles along the tram line. Despite these advantages, there are some problems related to users’ comfort like the noise caused during the operation. This study is focused on the human perception of the noise levels detected inside the tramway. The objective of this work is to identify and analyze the level of noise detected inside tramway, to know in which cabin and section the high noise is recorded, to find the causes and to show if the measured noise influences the comfort of passengers. For that, noise measurements are taken in all cabs and along the tram line. The results show that the levels of noise inside the seven cabins is different. The high noise is detected in the motorized cabins and in many sections, like the curves and also in other sections. The results show also that this noise affects negatively on the comfort of passengers. Finally, different solutions that can contribute to reduce effectively the noise to make the tram more comfortable and efficient to relieve traffic congestion in urban areas are presented
