Natural vibration of tapered rectangular plate with exponential variation in non homogeneity
In this paper, authors studied the natural vibration of tapered non homogeneous rectangular plate on clamped edges. For tapering in plate, authors considered circular variation in thickness and for non-homogeneity (in plate’s material) Poisson’s ratio varies exponentially. Bilinear temperature (linear along both the axes) variation on the plate is being viewed. Rayleigh Ritz method is used to solve differential equation of motion. All the results are presented with the help of tables and graphs. A comparison of results is also given to support the present study
Selection of the oil-free bearing system for a 30 kW ORC microturbine
The article discusses results of the analyses of various bearing systems for the rotor of an ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) microturbine with an electric power of 30 kW. It is impossible to choose the appropriate bearing system taking into account only basic parameters of the bearings. When designing a new power turbine, it is important to conduct the dynamic and strength analysis of the entire rotor-bearings-supporting structure system. The nominal rotational speed of the newly designed single-stage axial-flow turbine is 40,000 rpm. The turbine will be powered using the vapour of a low-boiling working medium. The chosen working medium cannot be used in combination with all materials that are commonly used for turbine constructions. An additional requirement was that the turbogenerator must be oil-free. The temperature of the working medium directed to the rotor blades could exceed a value of 200 °C. Three bearing systems were considered: bearings lubricated with a low-boiling fluid (in the liquid form), gas bearings lubricated with the vapour of a low-boiling medium and rolling bearings. Since the rotors used in those three systems have different geometries, their dynamic properties vary as well. The rotor dynamics analyses were carried out using computer programs belonging to the MESWIR environment, which had been developed at the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN) in Gdańsk. The computational model, based on the finite element method, was used to prepare graphs on which are presented vibration amplitudes as functions of the rotational speed. The computational model, based on the finite element method, served to perform calculations on the basis of which graphs presenting vibration amplitudes as functions of the rotational speed were prepared. Moreover, vibration trajectories of individual nodes of the computational model were shown. Besides analyses of the bearings themselves, calculations were also carried out to assess the dynamic properties of the rotors supported by those bearings in a wide range of rotational speeds. As a result of the conducted analyses, the concept of an innovative turbogenerator was created. Its rotor can operate at a very high rotational speed, and the bearings do not require oil lubrication

The research work proposes, Design and implementation of Solar power fed permanent magnet synchronous motor using improved DC-DC Converter and modified p-q theory based shunt active filter for reducing vibrations in drive for Industrial Applications. The Proposed research consists of both buck and boost converter, linking dc voltage unit and works in discontinuous conduction for boosting the battery life time. The improved converter provides multiple output capability using B4-inverter which reduces the cost of a proposed system considerably. In addition, for the reduction of harmonics in three phase system modified p-q module is enhanced. Comparing with the existing module, modified p-q module act as a triggering module for inverter to reduce harmonics in three phase systems and vibration across the motor, moreover the structured circuit would result in reduction of total harmonic distortion (THD), torque ripples, compact power switches, DC source reckoning and reduced starting current. The simulation of buck boost converter is considered, and its performance parameters were analyzed for different operating conditions. Thus, for industrial applications, the bidirectional converter and inverter fed permanent magnet synchronous motor drive is employed with the reduction in vibration, which is more efficient than conventional method. Here both simulation and experimental setup has been employed with a satisfying closed loop performance
Analysis and design of a novel hybrid topology for power quality improvement using multilevel inverter fed induction motor by reducing vibration for textile wastewater treatment applications
The proposed research involves the design and implementation of a novel hybrid topology for power quality improvement using multilevel inverter fed induction motor by reducing vibration for Textile applications. Various modern applications have started to require higher power gadgets as of late. Staggered inverter is equipped for giving wanted substituting voltage level at output utilizing different low-level DC voltage as an input. In H-connect staggered inverter, the quantity of output level is characterized by the quantity of exchanged capacitor cells. A small amount of voltage can be utilized to produce a supported output voltage by exchanging the capacitor in parallel and in series. Staggered inverter produces less Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), less electromagnetic interference and less voltage inrush on switches. The proposed topology delivers a staircase waveform with higher number of output level utilizing less segments contrasted with a few existing exchanged capacitor multilevel inverter. The task manages cascaded H-connect staggered inverter that can be utilized for both single and three stage change. The structure is created with H-bridge inverter including DC-DC converter. A sine pulse width twist is decided on PWM pulses. The inverter essentially takes care of the issue of capacitor voltage adjusting as every capacitor is charged to the esteem equivalent to one of the information voltages at each cycle. Recreation is finished with the assistance of MATLAB Simulink programming and the exploratory outcomes for current and voltage at various THD esteems are appeared and the equivalent is done for equipment. The prototype structure is conceded and analysed for various parameters of proposed method, which results in reduced switches and proves more efficient than other conventional methods and in addition it is more proficient for pumping process in textile industry for wastewater treatment
Effect of suction chamber baffles on pressure fluctuations in a low specific speed centrifugal pump
In order to study the effect of suction chamber baffles on hydraulic performance and unsteady characteristics in a low specific speed centrifugal pump, a model pump was design with enlarging flow mothed and four schemes of suction baffle, including no baffle (scheme 0), only one baffle in the suction (scheme 1), two baffles (scheme 2) and three baffles in the suction (scheme 3), were considered. Commercial code FLUENT was applied to simulate the flow of the pump. RNG k-ε turbulence model was adopted to handle with the turbulent flows in the pump. The sliding mesh technique was applied to take into account the impeller-volute interaction. Based on the simulation results, the hydraulic performance and pressure fluctuations were obtained and analyzed in detail. The head value of no baffle in the suction (scheme 0) is lower than that with baffles in the suction (scheme 1, scheme 2, scheme 3) at each condition point. Hump point in scheme 0 is at φ= 0.00596 (1.2 times Qo). The hump point in scheme 1, scheme 2, scheme 3 is at 0.8Qo, 1.0Qo, 1.0Qo, respectively. The ε value of scheme 1 is the smallest and that of scheme 0 is the largest in the four schemes. Six wave troughs are observed clearly at each monitoring point as the impeller rotates in a circle. Each time the impeller is turned 10 degrees, there are six obvious troughs around the impeller. With the rotation of the impeller, peak value of pressure fluctuations at blade passing frequency (BPF) is gradually decrease. At low flow (ϕ= 0.002383), the main frequency of pressure fluctuation at P36 and P1 under scheme 0, scheme 2 and scheme 3 is 295 Hz, which is corresponding to BPF. The pressure fluctuation levels are decreased by –2.72 %, –2.13 %, and –2.21 % respectively when the number of baffle in the suction is one, two, three, respectively. And decrease rate of pressure fluctuation (∆Cp) on scheme 1 is maximum. It indicates that Adding baffles to the suction chamber is beneficial to reduce the amplitude of pressure pulsation at BPF in the volute. The best number of baffles in the suction is one. Based on scheme 1 simulation results, the prototype was manufactured and the performance experiments were carried out. A good agreement of the head and efficiency between numerical results and experimental results are observed
A fault diagnosis method of bearing using energy spread spectrum and genetic algorithm
Considering the shortcomings of the traditional energy spectrum algorithm applied to the rolling bearing fault diagnosis, which can only represent the tendency of fault feature transformation with a certain scale, but not adjacent scales contained. In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis method of rolling bearing based on Support Vector Machine, combining energy spread spectrum and genetic optimization. The extracted signal is denoised and decomposed using wavelet packets, the energy spectrums and energy spread spectrums are calculated based on the decomposed different frequency signal components. The genetic algorithm is used to select the important parameters of the Support Vector Machine and bring the determined parameter values into the Support Vector Machine to generate the GA-SVM model. Then, energy spectrums and energy spread spectrums are inputted into GA-SVM as the characteristic parameters for identification. The experimental results show the two new points of energy spread spectrums and GA-SVM improve the diagnostic rate by up to 28.5 %, it can effectively improve the fault recognition rate of the rolling bearing
Experimental and finite element approach for finding sound absorption coefficient of bio-based foam
The enormous consumption of Polyurethane foam leads to severe environmental pollution and health hazards, so it is necessary to overcome this problem. This paper presents alternative and less hazardous foam that differs from traditional foams. A bio-based foam was developed either by using castor oil-based polyol or natural fibers as fillers. In the present study, rigid foam is synthesized by both castor polyol and luffa fiber, whereas for flexible foam, only luffa fiber is incorporated. Luffa fillers enhance the porosity of Polyurethane foam, which is the dominating factor influencing the value of the sound absorption coefficient. Both rigid and flexible foams were developed with 5, 10 and 15 percentages of filler loaded. The samples are tested experimentally using the two-microphone impedance tube method and the measured result was compared with the numerical result, which is predicted from COMSOL Multiphysics. The experimental results of flexible foam demonstrate good agreement with numerical results. The results indicate that the addition of Luffa fibers enhances the sound absorption performance of flexible foam and deterioration in the rigid foam because of the high viscosity of castor oil polyol
An explicit closed-form solution for transverse and longitudinal vibration of beam with multi-directional elastic constraints under an arbitrary moving load
Beams with elastic constraints are widely used in dynamic systems in engineering. A general explicit solution is presented here for the vibration of simple span beam with transverse, rotational and axial elastic boundary constraints due to an arbitrary moving load. The Euler-Bernoulli beam theory is adopted, in which the boundary constraints are treated as multi-directional boundary springs. After the modal analyses, the explicit closed-form solutions of transverse and axial vibration of the beam under a constant, sinusoidal and cosinoidal moving loads are obtained, respectively. And the vibration of a beam subjected to an arbitrary moving load is derived by the superposition of Fourier series. The current analytical solution is exact and can be applied in multiple engineering fields to obtain accurate structural vibrations. In numerical examples, the effects of the boundary springs on the natural frequencies, modes, deflection, bending moment and boundary reaction of the beam are studied in details. The effects of the number of terms in Fourier series of arbitrary moving load are also discussed
Vibration analysis of reconditioned high-speed electric motors
This paper discusses the issue of assessing the condition of three-phase induction motors (which are used as power units for tools on manufacturing lines in the furniture industry) following major repairs. These high-speed motors differ from standard motors in higher frequency power input, more durable bearings and reinforced structure of the terminal part of the rotor shaft. The rotational speed of the rotor is 10,000-18,000 rpm. Such high values of rotational speed trigger a situation in which exceeding the allowable limit of residual unbalance for the rotor unit damages the motor. The damage might necessitate a comprehensive repair. Such cases are frequent. The conducted studies resulted in designing a vibration analysis for assessing the condition of reconditioned high-speed motors (a method for controlling the quality of repairs). Both high- and low-frequency analyses with a signal selection module and the basic general measurements were applied. The analysis provides the possibility of verifying the efficacy of reconditioning in relation to the mechanical validity of the repaired motors
