Fault diagnosis method for rolling bearings based on the interval support vector domain description
Aiming at the fault classification problem of the rolling bearing under the uncertain structure parameters work condition, this paper proposes a fault diagnosis method based on the interval support vector domain description (ISVDD). Firstly, intrinsic time scale decomposition is performed for vibration signals of the rolling bearing to get the time-frequency spectrum samples. These samples are divided into a training set and a test set. Then, the training set is used to train the ISVDD. Meanwhile, the dynamic decreasing inertia weight particle swarm optimization is applied to improve the training accuracy of ISVDD model. Finally, the performance of the four interval classifiers is calculated in rolling bearing fault test set. The experimental results show the advantages of the ISVDD model: (1) ISVDD can extend the support vector domain description to solve the uncertain interval rolling bearing fault classification problem effectively; (2) The proposed ISVDD has the highest classification accuracy in four interval classification methods for the different rolling bearing fault types
Active vibration control of rotating beam with moving mass using piezoelectric actuator
The robotic arm carrying a moving end effector can be modeled as a rotating beam with moving mass. Active vibration control of rotating beam with moving mass using piezoelectric actuator is presented. Simply supported beam and cantilevered beam are considered in this studying. The equations of the system are derived by Lagrange’s equation with the assumed mode method. The linear classical optimal control algorithm with displacement-velocity feedback is used to determine the control voltage. The numerical simulations reveal that the transverse displacements of the beam can be effectively reduced by the actuators. The effect of rotational speed and acceleration to the dynamic responses of the beam are also investigated
Analysis of weak faults of planetary gears based on frequency domain information exchange method
This paper focuses on solving a series of problems, in particular, the extraction of planetary gear fault characteristics for cracked and broken teeth, using the frequency domain information exchange method. First, we discuss deficiencies in classical stochastic resonance fault feature extraction method. A number of issues are associated with adaptive stochastic resonance based on the re-scaling frequency method used during the small parameter issues, such as sampling frequency ratio constraints and easily induced aliasing of the target frequency band. Second, to overcome the above-mentioned problems, this paper proposes a frequency domain information exchange optimization method. Simulations were carried out used the proposed method and results were compared to those obtained using previously presented adaptive stochastic resonance based on the re-scaling frequency method. Finally, tests were performed on an experimental planetary gearbox failure platform to further verify the frequency domain information exchange method for effectively extracting planetary gear crack and missing tooth fault features
Bearing fault diagnosis based on feature extraction of empirical wavelet transform (EWT) and fuzzy logic system (FLS) under variable operating conditions
Condition monitoring of rotating machines has become a more important strategy in structural health monitoring (SHM) research. For fault recognition, the analysis is categorized in two essential main parts: Feature extraction and classification; the first one is used for extracting the information from the signal and the other for decision-making based on these features. A higher accuracy is needed for sensitive places to avoid all kinds of damages that can lead to economic losses and it may affect the human safety as well. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid and automatic approach for bearing faults diagnosis. This method uses a combination between Empirical wavelet Transform (EWT) and Fuzzy logic System (FLS), in order to detect and localize the early degradation of bearing state under different working conditions. EWT build a wavelet filter bank to extract amplitude modulated-frequency modulated component of signal. Modes presenting a high impulsiveness is then selected using the kurtosis indicator. Thereafter, time domain features (TDFs) are applied for the reconstructed signal to extract the fault features which are finally used as an inputs of FLS in order to identify and classify the bearing states. The experimental results shows that the proposed method can accurately extract and classify the bearing fault under variable conditions. Moreover, performance of EWT and empirical mode decomposition (EMD) are studied and shows the superiority of the proposed method
Novel complete ensemble EMD with adaptive noise-based hybrid filtering for rolling bearing fault diagnosis
A feature extraction of fault bearing has attracted considerable attention in recent years. However, weak fault feature is difficult to extract under heavy background noise. To solve this problem, a novel multi-layer filtering method is proposed to filter out noise and extract weak fault feature. The first layer introduces a metric based on de-trended fluctuation analysis (DFA) to identify intrinsic mode function (IMF) that reflect period impulsive information for vibration signal adaptively. The second layer uses non-local mean (NLM) method as a pre-filter of the third layer to realize extraction of singular value decomposition (SVD) which reflect the most information of IMFs. The last layer introduces a relative energy difference criterion of a singular value to extract important feature of Hankel matrix of IMFs. The filtered signal is obtained by re-constructed signal from identified singular value of SVD. Experiment results on simulation and real vibration signals indicate that the hybrid filtering method removes heavy noise successfully and extract weak fault feature of rolling bearing effectively
Design and real time implementation of nonlinear sliding surface with the application of super-twisting algorithm in nonlinear sliding mode control for twin rotor MIMO system
This paper proposes the design of a nonlinear sliding surface based on the principle of variable damping concept for 2-degree of freedom Twin Rotor Multiple input Multiple output System (2-dof TRMS). The implementation of the designed nonlinear sliding surface in real time is demonstrated. Super-twisting algorithm is applied in nonlinear sliding mode control. The nonlinear sliding surface enables the system trajectory to be highly robust and with the application of super-twisting algorithm in nonlinear sliding mode controller (SMC), the designed controller has minimized the problem of chattering considerably. The system is modeled in such a way that it includes all nonlinearities and coupling effects. A decoupler is designed to nullify the coupling effect. This scheme is capable of reducing both the settling time and peak overshoot simultaneously for 2-dof TRMS. The scheme also reduces the chattering. The proposed method is compared with the design using PID controller. The applicability of the designed nonlinear sliding surface and nonlinear SMC with super-twisting algorithm have been tested both in simulation and in real time. This research paper is mainly dealing with the modeling of Twin rotor MIMO system by including all nonlinearities and coupling effects, the decoupler design for 2-dof TRMS, the design of nonlinear sliding surface for 2-dof TRMS and application of super-twisting algorithm in nonlinear sliding mode control for 2-dof TRMS
Performance optimization of banana vibrating screens based on PSO-SVR under DEM simulations
This paper carried out the numerical simulation about the movement of non-spherical particles on banana vibrating screen using direct element method (DEM) considering the complexity of particle collision and avoiding obtaining motion information with difficulty. Experimental prototype of banana vibrating screen under variable parameters was manufactured to verify the feasibility of simulations. Because the complex non-linear mathematical model is the basis of optimization. Based on the simulation data this paper applied the least squares support vector machines (LS-SVM) to establish relationships between vibrating parameters of banana screen and screening performance. LS-SVM based on statistical theory can effectively solve the mapping problem of small sample. At same time, in order to improving the quality of modeling, the kernel parameters of SVM were optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO). Considering multi-extremum, large-scale, and non-differentiable of this computational model, the artificial fish-swarm algorithm (AFSA) with strong robustness and global convergence was applied to vibration parameters optimization. Finally, the optimal vibration parameters were: vibration amplitude 2.4 mm, vibration frequency 21 Hz, vibration direction angle 40 degrees
A fast-multi-pole accelerated method of fundamental solutions for 2-D broadband scattering of SH waves in an infinite half space
The traditional method of fundamental solution (T-MFS) is known as an effective method for solving the scattering of elastic waves, but the T-MFS is inefficient in solving large-scale or broadband frequency problems. Therefore, in order to improve the performance in efficiency and memory requirement for treating practical complex 2-D broadband scattering problems, a new algorithm of fast multi-pole accelerated method of fundamental solution (FM-MFS) is proposed. Taking the 2-D scattering of SH waves around irregular scatterers in an elastic half-space as an example, the implementation steps are presented in detail. Based on the accuracy and efficiency verification, the FM-MFS is applied to solve the broadband frequency scattering of plane SH waves around group cavities, inclusions, a V-shaped canyon and a semi-elliptical hill. It shows that, compared with T-MFS, the FM-MFS has great advantages in reducing the consumed CPU time and memory for 2-D broadband scattering. Besides, the FM-MFS has excellent adaptability both for broad-frequency and complex-shaped scattering problems
Influences of wind and rotating speed on the fluid-structure interaction vibration for the offshore wind turbine blade
For the 5MW offshore wind turbine blade, the control and discrete equations of the fluid domain and structural domain were established respectively, and the calculation formulas of blade loads and damping coefficient were given. Furthermore, the blade entity modeling was completed by using UG and ANSYS Workbench. Based on it, the numerical calculation of blade vibration characteristics under different wind and rotating speeds was carried out, and the reliability verification was conducted by the wind tunnel test. The results of calculation indicate that the numerical results of the first principal stresses at the blade surface along the span-wise direction are consistent with the results of wind tunnel test, which verifies the reliability of the theory and numerical models. Both the influences of the bidirectional fluid-structure interaction (BFSI) and the rotation effect on the characteristics of blade vibration should be underlined. The increase of wind or rotating speed results in the nonlinear increase of the maximum span-wise displacement of the blade and of the Mises-stresses. Under different wind or rotating speed, the blade’s maximum displacement occurs at its tip, its maximum Mises-stresses appear at the relative wingspan of 0.55, and the contribution of rotating speed and average wind speed to the displacement or Mises-stress along the span-wise direction is similar
Joint parameter identification, vibration and noise analysis of gearbox
A certain type of gearbox is investigated for the problem that the stiffness and damping of bearings are difficult to be accurately determined and then affect the analysis of vibration and noise of gearbox. Firstly, a coupled dynamic lumped parameter model of three-stage helical gear system with consideration of bearing stiffness, bearing damping, and transmission error is established. The modal parameters of gear system are obtained by using the experimental modal analysis method with single-input and multiple-output. The equation for joint parameter identification of gearbox is established which is based on the experimental modal analysis theory and the dynamic lumped parameter model, and subsequently the parameters of the joint are obtained by the least square method. Then, a gear-shaft-bearing- housing coupled dynamic finite element model is developed on the basis of the identified parameters, and after that the dynamic response results of gearbox are solved by using the modal superposition method and compared with the vibration test results. Finally, an acoustic boundary element model of gearbox is established by taking the dynamic response results as the acoustic boundary condition, and the surface sound pressure and radiation noise of gearbox are solved by the boundary element method (BEM), and then the results are compared with the noise test. The results show that the simulation laws and test laws are in good agreement, and thus the method of joint parameter identification, vibration and noise analysis of gearbox is feasible
