Therefore, we aimed to assessif meditation expertise is associated with preserved cognition in key domains affected in aging. Weused data from two older-adult samples of the Medit-Ageing Age-well Study: 135 non-meditators and27 expert meditators. We examined group differences in four objective cognitive domains (attention, executive functioning, episodic memory, and global cognition) and three subjective scores: CognitiveDifficulties Scale (CDS) total score as well as Attentional Style Questionnaire (ASQ) internal andexternal scores using generalized mixed effect models, controlling for age, sex, and education. We didnot observe group differences on attentional, executive and global cognitive scores or on ASQ internalscore and CDS total score. However, meditators reported less external distraction (ASQ externalscore) and had better memory than non-meditators. These cross-sectional results indicate a bettermanagement of external stimuli and higher memory performance in expert meditators. Memorydifficulties and distractions being the main complaints of older people, prolonged meditation practicecould lead them to greater cognitive capacities important for healthy aging
submitted to Computers & Mathematics with ApplicationsThe nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart mixed finite element is popular to solve Stokes Problem. The discrete velocity is nonconforming (i.e. the moments on the facets between the elements are equal), piecewise linear, say P1nc , and the discrete pressure is piecewise constant, say P0 . This method introduces some consistency error that may lead to a non-physical solution when solving the Navier-Stokes equations. There exists different cures, such that building a divergence free subspace of the discrete velocity space, or projecting the test function in the source term on some H(div)-conforming space à la Linke. One can also enrich the discrete pressure space, which is then generated by P1 -Lagrange plus P0 basis functions. This leads to the P1nc × (P0 + P1) mixed finite element method, which allows to reduce the consistency error. Our goal here is to prove the stability of this scheme and to compute error estimates. We exhibit the Fortin operator and we demonstrate that this finite element method yields accurate results.
Effect of laser produced plasma bubbles and wall expansion on laser beams propagation inside gas filled halfraum cavity
International audienceWe present results of an experiment, performed at the Omega Laser Facility, to characterize the effect of bubbles of plasma, produced by ns “outer” laser beams, on the propagation of delayed “inner” beams inside methane gas filled hohlraum targets. Outer and inner refer to the angle of propagation of beams with the hohlraum axis. Halfraums with a “rugby-like” shape were used to enhance this effect, as the incidence angle of the inner relative to the cavity wall is wider in this geometry, which contributes to a larger interaction length. Hard x-ray imager and a broad-band spectrometer were used to get information on plasma dynamics and emission. The results show that the hard x-ray emission produced by the inner, while propagating through the expanding plasma, increases linearly with the bubble size independently of the gas pressure: this is an interesting measurement, as in an implosion experiment, this energy deposition that is difficult to reproduce by simulation, would be a source of illumination asymmetry of the capsule. Experimental results are then compared to those from the three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamics code TROLL. The measured dynamic and x-ray emission of the plasma bubbles, produced by the outer, are correctly reproduced by the simulations, but only when using a simple model that modifies the laser energy absorption within the expanding plasma wall. Yet, discrepancies between experimental and simulated results on inner beams' interactions with bubbles persist. Two hypotheses are presented to explain these differences
National audienceThe Asset Administration Shell (AAS) has emerged as a highly demanded industry-grade standard for implementing digital twins in industrial environments. Its success is mainly due to its ease of understanding and deployment, its modern and rigorous architecture, and strong support from the industrial community. Although AAS has great potential for applications in agriculture, there is a lack of studies on this topic. Thus, this paper presents a perspective on using AAS digital twins to deploy context-aware systems, particularly in a case study of the irrigation system IRRINOV, which was previously investigated by TSCF, INRAE.L’Asset Administration Shell (AAS) s’est imposé comme une norme industrielle très demandée pour la mise en œuvre de jumeaux numériques dans les environnements industriels.
Computation of sink strengths in complex microstructures
International audienceA method is proposed for calculating sink strengths in complex microstructures, containing several sink types, some of which may be mobile. It is based on the estimation of mean lifetime of defects and on the fraction of defects absorbed by the different sinks. As an application, sink strengths for self-interstitial atoms are calculated with object kinetic Monte Carlo in microstructures containing vacancies and dislocations or grain boundaries. The transition from one-dimensional to three-dimensional diffusion of self-interstitial atoms and the role of vacancy mobility are investigated. Multiple-sink effects on sink strengths are shown to be present for all sinks, but only in specific diffusion regimes of self-interstitial atoms and vacancies. Results are discussed in light of existing expressions of sink strengths, and new expressions are proposed

International audienceAdvantages and disadvantages of intermittent versus daily vitamin D supplementation especially in adults with or at risk of osteoporosis are discussed by the Osteoporosis Research and Information Group (GRIO). The analysis of the literature suggests that intermittent long-term high doses vitamin D supplementation (such as 60,000 IU/month or more), may increase the risk of falls, fracture and premature death in certain populations, while daily doses of 800-1000 IU with calcium decrease falls and non-vertebral fractures in the elderly with vitamin D deficiency. In patients with or at risk of osteoporosis we hence recommend measuring the 25(OH)D concentration prior to supplementation and to provide vitamin D supplementation (with optimization of calcium intake if needed) to obtain a concentration between 30 and 60 ng/mL. We recommend the use of an initial loading dose, especially in those who need a quick repletion of vitamin D store (symptoms of osteomalacia and/or 25(OH)D concentration <12 ng/mL, patients eligible for treatment with potent antiresorptive therapy), followed by a maintenance dose. A daily supplementation should be the rule when possible. When daily forms are however not available or not reimbursed, we recommend, like other experts, to continue using intermittent dosing with the smallest available dose (≤ 50 000 IU) and the shortest interval between doses as a stopgap until reimbursement or adequate daily pharmaceutical forms (pills or soft capsules of 1000, 2000 IU) are available.
Long-term plankton and environmental monitoring dataset from the Marine Protected Area of the Iroise Marine Natural Park (2010–2023) in the Iroise Sea, North Atlantic
This data paper presents a long-term monitoring dataset of phytoplankton (2010–2022) and zooplankton (2010–2023) communities, as well as associated environmental parameters (2010–2023), from the Iroise Marine Natural Park, Iroise Sea, North Atlantic, France's first Marine Protected Area. The dataset combines traditional microscopy-based phytoplankton counts with zooplankton data (abundances) obtained from digitized images using the ZooScan imaging system, along with surface and bottom temperature and salinity measurements. Sampling was conducted seasonally along two main transects and three coastal stations, capturing both spatial and temporal dynamics of plankton communities. Phytoplankton was identified at the species level by the same taxonomist during all the time-series (573 taxa in total). From their individual images, zooplankton was automatically sorted into 103 taxonomic and morphological groups, validated by an expert, and compiled into a data table allowing both community and individual approaches using abundances and biovolumes at both individual and community levels. Individual zooplankton images have also been made available for further morphometric analyses. This 14-year long, spatially and temporally resolved zooplankton imaging dataset is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the availability of zooplankton imaging data, locally and globally. This, as a whole dataset, can be used to study the influence of coastal-offshore environmental gradients on marine plankton biodiversity patterns, especially in protected waters at the intersection of the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean, in a region characterized by the presence of the Ushant front
