    Investigating the impact of undersampling and bagging: an empirical investigation for customer attrition modeling

    International audienceGiven the growing interest in using AI and analytics to support CRM decision making, we discuss why undersampling and bagging are popular prediction techniques in customer churn prediction (CCP). The former helps in tackling the class imbalance problem and the latter improves model stability. However, extant CCP literature is unclear on the impact of undersampling on model stability and predictive performance, while bagging has difficulties in handling the class imbalance problem. Therefore, we extend existing CCP research to benchmark underbagging, which combines undersampling and bagging. Having both prediction techniques combined we recuperate customer data that would have been lost in undersampling by using them in multiple bags and passing an undersampled, more balanced training set to the classifier. In an extensive experiment including 11 real-life CCP datasets, underbagging is benchmarked against its constituents and other popular CCP classifiers in terms of predictive performance, profit and operational efficiency. Our results indicate that underbagging is a valid and reliable alternative framework for CCP prediction

The materials are designed to promote brainstorming for problem-solving, enhancing engagement and collaboration among participants in consultancy, human resource management, CSR, and DEI management.     National audienceIl y a plus d’une trentaine d’années, Bertrand Lemennicier formulait différentes propositions de régulation et de réglementation des marchés des substances psychoactives, allant de la dépénalisation de l’usage à une libéralisation des marchés. Ce papier se propose de les interroger et de les positionner dans un cadre offrant de plus larges alternatives. Alors que la demande de drogues est importante, que l’offre s’intensifie et que les produits se diversifient, les cadres régulatoires semblent encore chercher l’objectif qu’ils se fixent: minimisation du coût social, maximisation des recettes, réduction de la taille des marchés illégaux… En prenant comme exemples le tabac, l’héroïne et le cannabis, non seulement la pertinence des propositions de Bertrand Lemennicier est mise en lumière mais se dessinent également les grandes lignes d’un cadre de régulation commun à toutes les substances psychoactives

    International audienceApart from a few rare initiatives, the encounter between legal history and gender studies has remained marginal. The ANR-HLJPGenre project has been designed to fill this historiographical gap and bring researchers together: it aims to analyse law through a gender lens, focusing on the study of formal law and legal discourse. Epistemological issues play an important role here, allowing us to challenge the myth of 'axiological neutrality' that still prevails in our discipline. At the same time, the study of different methodological approaches opens up perspectives for the renewal of legal history. It was in this context that the international conference Legal Discourse, Gender and History was held in Douai in 2023. Thanks to the interdisciplinarity and decompartmentalisation of disciplines inherent to gender studies, contributions from law, history, sociology, political science, linguistics and philosophy enriched the discussions. Some of their contributions, reworked and expanded, appear in this issue alongside independent articles on the same theme.Exceptées de rares initiatives, la rencontre entre l’histoire du droit et les études de genre est restée encore marginale. C’est pour combler le vide historiographique et fédérer chercheurs et chercheuses que le projet ANR-HLJPGenre a été conçu : destiné à analyser le droit par le prisme du genre, le projet s’est particulièrement attaché à l’étude de la loi formelle et du discours juridique. Les enjeux épistémologiques y tiennent une grande place et permettent de remettre en cause le mythe de la « neutralité axiologique », encore prégnant dans notre discipline. Parallèlement, l’étude de diverses approches méthodologiques ouvre des perspectives pour le renouvellement de l’histoire du droit. C’est dans ce contexte que s’est tenu, à Douai en 2023, le colloque international Discours juridique, genre et histoire. Grâce à l'interdisciplinarité et au décloisonnement des disciplines inhérents aux études de genre, des contributions issues du droit, de l'histoire, de la sociologie, de la science politique, de la linguistique et de la philosophie ont enrichi les réflexions. Certaines de ses interventions, remaniées et enrichies, figurent dans ce numéro aux côtés d’articles autonomes explorant le même thème

    International audienceChronic oxygen deprivation, whether due to high altitude or certain diseases as cardiorespiratory pathologies, leads to muscle atrophy. To limit muscle loss, counteracting programs rely on only one therapeutic approach: return to sea level altitude, physical activity or nutritional supplementation; however, little effects are noticed on muscle mass of subjects presenting a severe hypoxemia. We hypothesized that the combination of several treatments (electrical stimulation and/or nutritional supplementation and/or oxygenation) would improve anabolic responses, counteracting thus efficiently hypoxia-induced muscle atrophy. In C2C12 myotubes submitted to hypoxia, we aim at testing several treatments based on the combination of electrical stimulation, amino acids supplementation and/or an oxygenation period. In comparison to untreated muscle cells under hypoxia, all treatments had an anabolic impact on myotubes morphology (myogenic fusion index, diameter and density of myotubes), on proteosynthesis pathway (Akt, mTOR, GSK-3β, 4E-BP1 and P70S6K), on proteolysis pathway (FoxO1, myostatin, ubiquitin-proteasome system) and on hypoxia marker (REDD1) protein level. Electrical stimulation alone resulted in hyperphosphorylation of Akt and FoxO1 while its combination with amino acids supplementation alleviated atrophy exemplified by fusion index and myotubes diameter increase up to 48 hours post-application. Electrical stimulation followed by a period of oxygenation of hypoxic muscle cells strongly increased the activation status of 4E-BP1 and P70S6K. Lastly, simultaneous application of all treatments (electrical stimulation, amino acids supplementation and oxygenation) was the only condition resulted in activation of mTOR concomitantly to myostatin level decrease. These results support that the activation of the mTOR pathway through the combined application of electrical stimulation and BCAAs is strongly influenced by oxygen availability, and that oxygen plays a critical role in optimizing protein synthesis pathway in hypoxic skeletal muscle cells

    International audienceThanks to their unique properties (improved volume-to-surface ratio compared to heterogeneous catalysts, highcatalytic performance and selectivity…), nanocatalysts[1] are increasingly used for environmental remediation[2] toremove organic pollutants as well as for oxidation-reduction processes and C-C couplings in organic synthesis.[3]Pi-conjugated molecules, which are employed for electronic organic applications, are heavily reliant on palladiumcatalyzed C-C or C-heteroatom couplings for their preparation. Traditional conditions for the catalytic steps usuallyinvolve high metal loadings, harmful solvents, and long reaction times at high temperatures.[4,5,6] To improve theenvironmental footprint of the preparation of these materials and the devices in which they are applied,nanocatalysis is a very valuable tool.We prepared novel Pd/Pt bimetallic nanoparticles stabilized by a bisphosphonic ligand. The nanoparticles wereevaluated in classical Suzuki and Sonogashira coupling reactions. They showed a high catalytic activity and couldbe used in green conditions: low catalyst loading, green solvent, and short reaction time under microwaveactivation. These new nanocatalysts were then applied to the preparation of pi-conjugated materials by the Suzukicoupling of a dibenzofuran or dibenzothiophene core with triarylamine moieties (Figure 1). These pi-conjugatedmaterials were studied as efficient hole transporting materials (HTM = materials that can extract the positive chargethat appears after a photon absorption) in perovskite solar cells (Figure 2).[7
