Genome-wide association study dissects the genetic architecture of progesterone content in Persian walnut leaves (Juglans regia L.)
International audienceProgesterone (P4) is an endogenous sex steroid hormone involved in the ovulatory cycle and pregnancy of animal species. In sheep and goats, P4 analogues are used to induce synchronized ovulations and oestrus behavior of the females. In humans, P4 from chemical synthesis is used to treat peri-menopausal disorders. However, such molecules are released into aquatic environment and can be a source of pollution, are prohibited in organic farms and go against the trend of "naturality" in animal production as well as in human health. A natural alternative may consist in the extraction and use of P4 in plants. Mammalian hormones were discovered in an increasing number of plant species, including walnut leaves that contain high levels of P4. We compared the content of P4 in leaves of 170 accessions of Juglans regia from the walnut germplasm collection of INRAE Prunus-Juglans Biological Resources Center previously genotyped using the Axiom ™ J. regia 700 K SNP array. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using multi-locus models. When collected in October, P4 content goes from 34,1 to 287,5 mg/kg dry weight of leaves. The two laciniate accessions have the largest P4 content. We identified seven significant marker-trait associations on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 15 and 16, and a candidate gene involved in the metabolism of sterols, precursors of plant steroid hormones. Our results raise the huge variability of P4 content within J. regia and propose a candidate gene which may have a role in the control of this variability, opening the way to a potential use of walnut P4 by the pharmaceutical industry towards more natural source of chemical compounds.</div
Dataset of zootechnical, biological, oocyte and embryo production indicators, from ewes with contrasted metabolic status and submitted to chronic bisphenol S exposure
International audienceThis dataset consists of raw data from an experimental design in the ovine model: zootechnical traits, biological indicators, oocyte collection and embryo production from ewes with contrasted metabolic status and submitted to chronic Bisphenol S (BPS) exposure. For 2 consecutive years, 120 primiparous ewes (60 different ewes for each year) were managed in a loose sheepfold, assigned to two diet groups Restricted (R, n = 30) and Well-fed (WF, n = 30) and supplemented with or without BPS (0, 4 or 50 lg/kg/day), generating six experimental groups named R-0, R-4, R-50, WF-0, WF-4, and WF-50 (n = 10 ewes/group). Oocyte collection was carried out during the breeding season of sheep between September and December. Diet management started in May and BPS treatment started in June, that is to say at least 3 months before oocyte collection. The dataset presents zootechnical traits (age, live weight, body condition score), metabolic indicators and hormones concentrations measured in plasma (non-esterified fatty acids, glucose, thyroid hormones, Anti-Mullerian hormone, progesterone, oestradiol and other steroids) as well as in follicular fluid for some of them (progesterone, oestradiol and others steroids), BPS and BPS-glucuronide concentrations in plasma and urine, data from follicular puncture and oocyte collection by ovum pick-up followed by in vitro embryo production (during the 2nd year of experiment). This large dataset can be re-used on the one hand by researchers working on reproductive physiology in interaction with energy metabolism in ruminants, to further investigate the effects of a restricted diet; on the other hand, by toxicologists and endocrinologists to investigate the effects of BPS (potential endocrine disruptor) on several hormones (i.e. steroids) and metabolites

Machine translation quality assessment has become a crucial issue in the fields of applied linguistics and translation technologies. In this study, we will focus on medical language in English, which will be analyzed and translated into French using DeepL (and later ChatGPT). We have extracted specific passages to conduct a comparative analysis between machine translation and a reference translation. The main objective is to evaluate the quality of the translation provided by DeepL using the Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) evaluation framework. This framework allows for an in-depth analysis of different aspects of translation, such as accuracy, fluency, and coherence.

This report focuses on the methodical analysis of parallel corpora in the context of machine and neural translation studies. The work described aims to explore in depth the processes of processing, alignment, and tokenization within automatic language processing, using a parallel corpus extracted from the medical domain. This corpus, comprising data in French and English from the European Medicines Agency database, serves as a basis for the application of advanced cleaning and structuring techniques. In order to guarantee the relevance and quality of the data used, we implemented a semi-automatic approach, combining filters and post-processing methods to obtain reliable and useful data for our study. As part of this research, different technological tools, such as SpaCy (https://spacy.io/api/token) and SentencePiece (https://github.com/google/sentencepiece), were evaluated and applied in order to optimize the analysis and processing of textual data. Our approach includes a comparative analysis of the available software to select those that best fit our analytical needs while overcoming the technical challenges encountered when integrating and using these tools. While detailing the steps and methodologies implemented, this report also highlights the obstacles encountered, such as the limitations of processing large volumes of text with existing software and the challenges related to setting up working environments adapted to these tools. Through careful planning and flexibility in the approach, this project aims to lay a solid foundation for future studies and applications in the field of machine-assisted translation.

Extensive environmental survey of free-living amoebae and their elusive association with Mycobacterium bovis or Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis
International audienceFree-living amoebae (FLA) are described as environmental reservoirs for some bacteria able to resist their phagocytosis. In the environment, the fate of Mycobacterium bovis (Mbo) and Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map) responsible for bovine tuberculosis and paratuberculosis, respectively, remains poorly understood and is considered potentially problematic in the eradication and control of these diseases. We hypothesize that FLA may play a role in the persistence of Mbo and Map in the environment. In this study, 90 samples were collected from herds affected by one or both diseases to investigate the diversity of amoeba and their associated bacteria. Metabarcoding analyses revealed that Acanthamoeba, Copromyxa, Naegleria, and Vermamoeba were the most represented genera of FLA, with Pseudomonadota being the bacteria most commonly found associated with FLA. Although no Mbo and Map DNA were identified by sequencing, traces were detected by ddPCR (digital droplet PCR), specifically targeting these bacteria. In conclusion, we described a wide diversity of FLA and associated bacteria in this environment. It also suggests that Map and Mbo could be associated, even weakly, with FLA in the environment. However, this needs to be confirmed by detecting a highest amount of DNA and, if possible, cultivable Map and/or Mbo associated with these environmental FLA
Is monetary policy transmission green?
International audienceThis paper examines whether traditional monetary policy affects firms differently based on their carbon emissions—a previously unexplored driver of monetary policy non-neutrality. We develop a theoretical model predicting that carbon-intensive (”brown”) firms are more sensitive to monetary policy shocks due to investor preferences for ”green” assets. We test this prediction using stock price data from U.S. firms between 2010 and 2019. Our findings confirm that brown firms are more sensitive to monetary policy shocks than green firms. This heightened sensitivity persists even after controlling for financial constraints and intensifies with rising climate awareness among investors. Our results suggest that traditional monetary policy is not carbon-neutral and unintentionally amplifies biases related to carbon emissions, highlighting important considerations for policymakers
