High‐Intensity Exercise After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Previously Physically Active Patients: One‐Year Clinical Outcomes

    No full text
International audienceThe benefits of regular physical activity are well demonstrated in secondary cardiovascular prevention, but data on high‐intensity exercise after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remain limited. This study aimed to assess whether resuming high‐intensity exercise within the first year after PCI was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular (CV) events. We prospectively followed 1154 patients who had undergone PCI without prior revascularization. All patients engaged in regular exercise prior to PCI. We compared the 1‐year outcome of patients who resumed high‐intensity exercise with the remaining patients. Within the first year 91.6% of patients resumed exercise (18.0% high‐intensity, 41.0% moderate‐intensity, 32.6% light‐intensity), predominantly endurance‐based (93.3%). No CV death was reported, atrial fibrillation occurred in 27 patients (2.3%), ischemic stroke in 4 (0.3%), ventricular arrhythmias in 9 (0.8%), acute heart failure in 8 (0.7%), and new coronary event in 30 (2.6%); including 21 new stenoses, 4 in‐stent restenoses, and 5 stent thromboses. Four patients experienced an acute coronary syndrome, including 2 during exercise. The 205 patients in the high‐intensity exercise group reported a higher training load (7.0 [5.0–8.0] hours/week vs. 4.0 [2.0–6.0], p < 0.0001). The incidence of CV events did not differ significantly between the groups (total CV events: 5.9% vs. 7.0%, p = 0.541; new coronary events: 1.5% vs. 2.9%, p = 0.250 respectively in the high‐intensity exercise group vs. the remaining patients). These findings indicate no observed increase in short‐term CV events among previously active patients resuming high‐intensity exercise after PCI, but further studies are required to determine whether these observations are generalisable

What smartphones change about writing: The impact of word suggestions on orthographic processing

International audiencePhonewriting involves a unique multitasking demand: writers monitor suggestions above the keyboard while typing and deciding whether to select them. We investigated how word suggestions affect orthographic processing during word production. French young adults wrote dictated words on a smartphone, in conditions with and without suggestions. Keystroke data revealed that word suggestions influenced processing time during movement execution, increasing production time for short words but reducing it for long words. Suggestions slowed down writing due to the concurrent execution of keystrokes and preparation for a potential shift to suggestion selection. The presence of suggestions also decreased the number of errors and corrections, particularly in long words. The participants did not rely on suggestions systematically but followed strategies: they used them more frequently for orthographically inconsistent and long words, often at syllable boundaries. These findings highlight the dual nature of word suggestions—as sources of interference and as external supports that relieve memory load and improve accuracy

Les pocheurs parisiens de livres liturgiques avant et après la Révolution

International audienceThis study assembles the biographies of the principal liturgical book stencillers active in Paris before and after the French Revolution. They include Jean-Bruno Peaucellier, Jacques-Guillaume Bonnisselle, Charles Berthot, Jean-Denis Chandora, Pierre-Louis Cousin, and Louis-Pierre Piorette. Their stencilled books are inventoried and described, together with the stencils they used and features characteristic of their work. Concluding remarks address the general circumstances, prevalence, and clients of Paris stencillers during this period.

Forest dynamics after a war against environment: Vietnam, a country on the way to sustainability?

    No full text
International audienceDuring the Vietnam War, the environment, and forests in particular, were targeted by American attacks, from herbicide spraying to bombing. The reason given was that the Vietcong enemy hid under the forest cover. 50 years have passed since the end of this war, and one wonders what the current impact is and what has become of the forests in this area. Furthermore, has the military/warrior past led to a greater awareness of the need to preserve the forests? In this presentation, we will base our comments on the results obtained from the study of archives, testimonies (acquired through semi-directive group interviews) and the analysis of spatial data (aerial photos and satellite images). We will start with a look at war, the military practices and their effects on forests. We will then show that the decline in forest cover accelerated after the war, due to the expansion of forests and the extension of farming to meet local needs. In the 1990s, the situation became worrying, with forests accounting for only 17% of the total forest area and the government changed its strategy to plant forests. Since then, forest area has grown steadily. But these are almost exclusively monospecific plantations, populated by exotic species (in this case, a hybrid of Australian acacia species). We will be questioning the sustainability of this option. It meets economic needs - Vietnam has become one of the world's largest modal furniture exporters. But criticisms are emerging on the environmental front, which is emphasized by Western researchers. Above all, we'll be focusing on the social aspect, analyzing how villagers view these plantations through a questionnaire distributed to local residents.Forest plantations are controversial, and the sustainability of such an option is widely questioned, all the more so in view of the surface areas planted and the threat to these woodlands in Vietnam

Cosmological singularity, conformal anomaly and symmetric polynomials

    No full text
International audienceWe consider a spacetime singularity at t=0t = 0 arising in a Kasner-type metric that solves the gravitational equations modified by quantum effects of a conformal field theory (CFT). The resulting constraints can be solved efficiently when expressed in terms of symmetric polynomials. Focusing first on the trace part of the modified gravitational equation, we determine the corresponding solution surfaces in Kasner-parameter space. The geometry of these surfaces depends sensitively on the ratio η=A/Cη= A/C, the quotient of the conformal charges characterizing the underlying CFT. We then fully integrate the conformal anomaly near the singularity for a generic Kasner-type metric and obtain the corresponding stress-energy tensor. Its components are expressed in terms of three symmetric polynomials (of degrees 22, 33 and 44) and depend on seven arbitrary constants, which may be interpreted as parameterizing different choices of the quantum state at the singularity. By imposing a set of constraints we reduce this parameter space to a single free constant. Subsequently, we solve, at leading order near the singularity, the modified gravitational equations. Among the admissible solutions, we identify, in particular, those that develop a curvature singularity while remaining geodesically complete

FDI and Performance: A Comparative Analysis Between Emerging and Developed Economies

    No full text
International audienceThis study investigates the nuanced relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and firm performance, addressing the heterogeneity of FDI's impact across countries with different levels of development. While FDI is widely recognized as a catalyst for economic growth, technology transfer, and enhanced competitiveness, particularly in developing economies, its effects remain contingent on the host country's specific context. Drawing on the theory of systemic competitiveness, this research examines how institutional, economic, and cultural factors shape the influence of FDI on firm performance. The selection of Nigeria, Ghana, and France as case studies enables a comparative analysis that contrasts the role of FDI in driving structural transformation in developing African economies with its function in market consolidation and technological partnerships in a developed European context. By differentiating the impact of FDI according to the level of development, this study seeks to enrich the existing literature, deepen understanding of the systemic dynamics of competitiveness, and offer relevant managerial and policy implications for optimizing the benefits of FDI across diverse national environments
