Comparative study of three cellular materials under blast and sustained shock wave

    No full text
International audienceThis study investigates the mechanical response of three cellular materials—polyisocyanurate (PIR), autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), and Aluminum Lightweight Foam (ALF, Nufoam® 140)—under blast and shock loading conditions. The research aims to provide experimental data for optimizing building protection against explosion hazards. Laboratory-scale tests were conducted using a shock tube to generate blast and sustained shock waves. The materials’ responses were analyzed using high-speed imaging and digital image correlation. Results indicate that PIR exhibits significant deformation under sustained shocks but shows recovery under blast loading. AAC demonstrates erosion-based energy dissipation, with material loss concentrated at the extremities. ALF, serving as a reference, shows excellent mechanical energy dissipation. The study highlights the potential of these materials for applications requiring both thermal insulation and blast resistance, contributing to the development of predictive tools and larger-scale experiment designs

Glühender Internationalismus vs. Pluralität : Nostalgia von André Kubiczek

    No full text

Coupled Modeling of Hydromechanical Behavior of Saturated Concrete Under High Stresses and Dynamic Loading: Influence of Pore Pressure

    No full text
International audienceABSTRACT This paper investigates the dynamic response of water‐saturated concrete under high stress levels, with a particular emphasis on the role of pore pressure. An enhanced elastoplastic damage model, incorporating dual plastic mechanisms, is proposed to capture the coupled hydromechanical behavior of concrete under combined high stress and high strain rate loading. Key improvements include the refinement of the porosity‐volumetric strain relationship, the incorporation of full hydromechanical coupling under dynamic loading, and the integration of strain rate sensitivity into the pore collapse mechanism and material strength. The improved constitutive model and numerical methodology are validated through simulations of uniaxial tensile tests and three sets of compression tests. Parametric studies are conducted to explore the influence of pore pressure on the confined response of concrete under both static and dynamic loading conditions. The results demonstrate that interstitial pore pressure significantly affects both the volumetric and deviatoric behaviors of saturated concrete, with its influence becoming more pronounced under dynamic loading. The findings provide valuable insights into the hydromechanical behavior of concrete structures subjected to extreme loading scenarios

Application of manifold learning to the parameters identification of visco-hyperelastic models from indentation measurements

    No full text
International audienceThe characterisation of materials exhibiting hyperelasticity and viscoelasticity using indentation techniques (AFM, nano/micro-indentation) has been of growing interest in the last decades. Furthermore, such materials as biological tissues [1] or industrial rubbers are known to be heterogeneous at different length scales. Therefore, the ability to study the mechanical behavior of these materials from macroscopic to nanometric scale leads to properly chacacterise these heterogeneities and study the interaction between different components. The objective of this study is to identify parameters of a visco-hyperelastic model for a filled fluoroelastomer (FKM) devoted to aeronautical applications [2], using both quasi-static and dynamic indentation protocols. The results obtained are compared with those derived from macroscopic characterisations. An identification based on manifold learning is performed as applied by [3] to hyperelastic materials. Firstly, a suitable design of experiments (DOE) is defined in order to explore a portion of the parameter space. A finite element model is employed to generate synthetic indentation curves based on the aforementioned DOE. These curves are then utilised as input for a model reduction phase. An interpolation is done in the reduced space to obtain a manifold. The experimental indentation curves are projected as experimental points in the reduced space. Parameter identification then consists in minimising the distance between these points and the manifold. This method enables the majority of the computational cost to be offline, as it is mainly dedicated to the generation of synthetic curves and interpolation

Predictors for Acceptance of Sexual Aggression Myths Among People Using Cyberporn: Cross-Sectional Study

    No full text
International audienceBackground Although the acceptance of sexual aggression myths (ASAM) has been intensively studied over the past 30 years, there is still a lack of conclusive information on its relationships with a given set of cognitive and behavioral variables. Objective This study aimed to examine to what extent sexual coercion, compulsive cyberporn use (CCU), arousing cyberporn scenes, moral incongruence, impulsivity, and sexual self-esteem can predict the ASAM—assessed with the Acceptance of Modern Myths About Sexual Aggression (AMMSA) score—among people who use cyberporn. Methods Overall, 1557 English speakers who used cyberporn at least once during the previous 6 months (mean age 33.3, SD 10.9 years; men: n=1000, 64.2%; women: n=557, 35.8%) were included in this study after completing an online questionnaire. The questionnaire included measures of the AMMSA, sexual coercion experiences including perpetration and victimization, CCU, arousing cyberporn scenes, moral incongruence, impulsivity, and sexual self-esteem. Data analytics included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, analysis of variance, and multivariate linear regression. Results Male participants had significantly higher scores than their female counterparts regarding the following variables: AMMSA ( t 1551 =12.46, P <.001), sexual violence perpetration ( t 1551 =3.10, P <.001), CCU ( t 1551 =8.05, P =.003), aroused by “groups with several females” porn scenes ( t 1551 =8.71, P =.002), and age ( t 1551 =7.11, P <.001). Female participants had significantly greater mean scores than their male counterparts regarding the following variables: sexual violence victimization ( t 1551 =−11, P <.001), aroused by “submission” pornographic scenes ( t 1551 =−5, P <.001), aroused by “soft” pornographic scenes ( t 1551 =−2.40, P =.03), and aroused by “groups with several males” pornographic scenes ( t 1551 =−5.93, P <.001). Among the male participants, AMMSA scores were significantly predicted by scores of sexual coercion (both perpetration and victimization; β=.042, P <.001 and β=.023, P =.03, respectively), CCU ( β =.339, P <.001), arousing cyberporn scenes displaying humiliation and groups of males ( β =.136, P =.003), sexual self-esteem ( β =.164, P <.001), and moral incongruence ( β =.131, P <.001). Among the female participants, AMMSA scores were significantly predicted by the scores of sexual coercion perpetration ( β =.060, P <.001), CCU ( β =.287, P <.001), arousing cyberporn scenes with several females ( β =−.111, P =.02), sexual self-esteem ( β =.188, P <.001), and age ( β =.025, P <.001). Age emerged as a distinct factor in women, with older participants more inclined to accept sexual aggression myths. Conclusions This study identified key psychological and behavioral correlates of the ASAM across genders. CCU, sexual coercion perpetration, and sexual self-esteem predicted the ASAM. Impulsivity and moral incongruence were salient among men, and age was salient among women. Gender differences emerged in arousal of pornographic content

Human emotional odours influence horses’ behaviour and physiology

    No full text
Olfaction is the most widespread sensory modality animals use to communicate, yet much remains to be discovered about its role. While most studies focused on intraspecific interactions and reproduction, new evidence suggests chemosignals may influence interspecific interactions and emotional communication. This study explores this possibility, investigating olfactory signals in emotional contagion from the example of human-horse interactions. Cotton pads carrying human odours from fear and joy contexts, or unused pads (control odour) were applied to 43 horses’ nostrils during fear tests (suddenness and novelty tests) and human interaction tests (grooming and approach tests). Principal component analysis showed that overall, when exposed to fear-related human odours, horses exhibited significantly heightened fear responses and reduced interaction with humans compared to joy-related and control odours. More precisely, when exposed to fear-related odours, horses touched the human less in the human approach test, gazed more at the novel object, and were more startled (startle intensity and maximum heart rate) by a sudden event. These results highlight the significance of chemosignals in interspecific interactions and provides insights into questions about the impact of domestication on emotional communication

Effects of International Climate Agreements on Trade in Environmental Goods: The Kyoto Protocol

    No full text
This study analyzes the impact of international climate agreements-specifically the Kyoto Protocol-on the trade in environmental goods over the period 1997-2021. Using entropy balancing and a sample of 112 countries, we show that the Kyoto Protocol led to an overall increase in the trade of environmental goods among Annex B countries. During this period, the protocol notably stimulated imports, although it did not significantly boost exports prior to 2016. The analysis also highlights heterogeneities linked to countries' technological capacities, economic structures, and institutional characteristics
