    No full text
International audiencePrevious studies concluded that theory of mind (ToM) development is deviant in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Typically developing children's ability to understand that one may hide their emotion would be acquired before false belief understanding in children with ASD (e.g., Peterson and Wellman 2019), but with contradictory results (e.g., Zhang et al. 2016). In the current work, we aim to determine whether the order of acquisition of ToM‐related concepts in ASD differs, using methodological improvements compared to previous studies. Our results support the conclusion of a non‐deviant developmental trajectory for ToM in individuals with ASD, with a general ability to understand hidden emotions that is not mastered before false belief attribution.

Does radial bias contribute to fast saccades toward faces in the periphery?

    No full text
International audienceSaccadic choice studies have shown that humans initiate faster saccades toward faces than other visual categories. Here, we tested whether the saccadic advantage for faces observed in past studies is partly due to stimuli being typically presented along the horizontal meridian (HM). Our previous work suggests that the radial bias along the HM facilitates access to the horizontal structure of faces, which optimally drives human face-specialized processing. We expected to corroborate the saccadic advantage for faces along the HM, where the radial bias facilitates access to horizontal content, and to observe a reduction of this advantage along the vertical meridian (VM), especially in participants showing a strong horizontal tuning for face recognition. Fifty participants performed a saccadic choice task targeting faces or vehicles presented at 15°e ccentricity along the HM and VM. We also assessed the strength of the radial bias and the horizontal tuning for face identity recognition in each individual. As expected, saccades were faster and more accurate toward faces than vehicles; they were also faster along the HM than the VM. Contrary to our hypothesis, the saccadic face advantage did not differ between meridians, suggesting the robustness of face saccadic advantage. However, the saccadic face advantage along the VM correlated with the strength of the horizontal tuning of face identity recognition. Additionally, the radial bias predicted saccade latency toward faces along the HM. These findings indicate that low-level radial biases and high-level face-specialized mechanisms independently contribute to distinct functional aspects of the ultra-fast saccadic responses toward faces.</div

    No full text
International audienceUsing a socio-ecological approach, this article study how onf staff are adapting their professional practices in response to the timber industry’s transition, in Savoie region. In this mountainous context, this transition express itself through two injunctions: injunction to profitability and injunction to ecologisation. We demonstrate that the actions concerning profitability vary according to the socio-ecological context of each territory, whereas those arising from the greening of society are influenced by the impacts of climate change on forests and the agent’s personal commitments for biodiversity preservation.

Heterogenous quadriceps femoris inter-head but consistent intra-head rigidity changes after voluntary eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage

International audienceObjectivesMaximal voluntary eccentric contractions can generate damage within the activated skeletal muscles. Intramuscular tissue alterations have been reported within the quadriceps femoris. This study aimed at comparing the quadriceps femoris inter-head and intra-head changes in resting mechanical properties with shear wave elastography.MethodNine healthy males performed 120 maximal isokinetic eccentric contractions of the knee extensors at 60°/s, designed to induce a decrease in isometric maximal voluntary contraction (iMVC) torque and to generate muscle soreness. Resting shear wave velocity (SWV, an index of tissue rigidity) was assessed in both proximal and distal parts of the vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), vastus intermedius (VI) and rectus femoris (RF). All parameters were measured before, immediately after (POST), one day (D1), two days (D2) and three days (D3) after exercise-induced muscle damage.ResultsMuscle soreness was significantly increased at POST, D1 and peaked at D2. iMVC torque was significantly diminished at POST ( – 25%) with a slight recovery at D2 ( – 19%) but was still reduced at D3 ( – 14%). Increases in SWV were found at POST in the VL, VM, VI, and RF (i.e., from + 14% to + 31% at long muscle length) but remained homogeneous across the different regions within each head. Only the increase in RF resting SWV was significantly prolonged until D3 (+ 8%).ConclusionsA specific increase in the rigidity of the bi-articular head of the quadriceps femoris at rest was observed, without any significant differences between proximal and distal parts. Further investigations near the myotendinous junction are needed to clarify the potential involvement in musculotendinous injuries

    No full text

    Real‐Time Phase Monitoring of Solid‐State Electrolytes: A Glovebox‐Integrated In Situ Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

    No full text
International audienceLithium‐ion batteries are regarded as highly advanced energy storage technologies, but the organic liquid electrolytes are highly flammable, posing significant safety risks. All‐solid‐state electrolytes are foreseen to safer alternative with superior electrochemical performance, and among them, halide solid‐state electrolytes (HSSEs) represent a breakthrough in next‐generation battery technologies. Herein, an in situ wide‐angle X‐ray scattering setup that is fully integrated into a glovebox is demonstrated, enabling real‐time monitoring of phase changes under controlled inert atmospheric conditions. To showcase the capabilities of the system, the thermal stability and phase transitions of two HSSEs: Li 2 ZrCl 6 (LZC) and Fe‐substituted Li 2.25 Zr 0.75 Fe 0.25 Cl 6 (LZFC) is investigated. The measurements reveal that LZC exhibits excellent thermal stability, maintaining its trigonal crystalline structure up to 200 °C. In contrast, trigonal LZFC remains stable up to 100 °C but begins decomposing into LiCl beyond this temperature. The findings underscore LZC's superior performance as a promising electrolyte for high‐performance energy storage systems and highlight the critical role of advanced in situ characterization techniques in optimizing materials for solid‐state battery technologies

Combine anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty with image-based robotic surgery: a current surgical technique

    No full text
International audienceUnicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a widely recognized treatment for isolated compartment osteoarthritis (OA). The absence of an intact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), however, has traditionally been considered a contraindication due to its critical role in maintaining knee stability and joint kinematics. This article aims to provide a detailed description of the surgical technique for UKA with simultaneous ACL reconstruction. It offers a practical guide for surgeons interested in adopting this approach for young, active patients with ACL-deficient and medial or lateral compartment OA, utilizing an image-based robotic platform for both preoperative and intraoperative planning. Indications and contraindications for the combined treatment are also reported. This technique, described through intraoperative images and video, represents a promising, joint-preserving alternative to total knee arthroplasty for appropriately selected patients. This step-by-step approach allows for the assessment of congruence between the bone tunnels and the prosthetic components, enabling a personalized implant positioning
