    SIMALL: Emotional BDI Model for Customer Simulation in a Mall

    Modeling customer behavior and exploring the motivations that drive their actions within a shopping mall is the subject of study in multiple works, which has generated new theories in marketing and related areas. However, seen from a computational perspective, the modeling of this system is complex given its emergent behavioral nature. In this paper, we propose a decision support model through a simulation implemented with multi-agent systems emphasizing the emotional BDI model and fuzzy logic decision making.     Vendor managed inventory system considering deteriorating items and probabilistic demand for a three-layer supply chain

    This paper proposes a Vendor Managed Inventory model for a three-layer supply chain comprised of multiple suppliers, manufacturers, and retailers. During the production and storage of products, rates of defective and deteriorated products are generated, respectively. The imperfect quality and deteriorating items are removed from the lot size. The decision variables include the replenishment cycles and production rates of finished products, order times, and raw materials production rates. It is assumed that deteriorating rates are constant, and the demand rates of retailers are probabilistic. A joint optimization model is developed to maximize the benefit function of the supply chain. Cost of order, deterioration, holding, screening, production, disposal, fixed, labor, purchasing, and others. A collaborative approach is considered among the chain members where the manufacturers lead the inventory policies to avoid risks associated with deterioration items. Moreover, the Taylor series expansion approximates the exponential terms, and a solution procedure is proposed to find the optimal solutions. A case study of the Dairy Industry for highly perishable products is provided to apply the VMI model and perform a sensitivity analysis. This collaboration scheme is developed according to confidentiality policies to share information related to sales forecast, operational cost, storage strategies, quality conditions, and increased product rotation to reduce deterioration. The results show greater participation of the retailers and manufacturers in the benefits of the chain, which is consistent with the VMI policy. Finally, the conclusion, managerial implications, and future research are presented

    Redes y la expansión internacional de la empresa : el caso de la industria de las aerolíneas

    Multinational enterprises are constantly trying to expand into new markets either by exploiting its assets base or by gaining access to partner companies that own the required resources. Thus, MNEs face the compete-cooperate-coopete dilemma, which is often explained by conflicting approaches. Mainstream international business (IB) theory claims that own resources and transaction outcomes are generally sufficient to explain firms’ international expansion orientation, whereas network and social capital theories focus on the role of relationships and network embeddedness. Both perspectives seem to neglect that firms frequently develop both factors simultaneously. In this work, we bridge these perspectives by investigating the interplay between ownership, collaborative, and location advantages in producing the compete-cooperate-coopete decision. We use a biprobit model to analyze more than 50,000 new IB operations by 164 MNEs in a 5-year window. The results show the extent to which the competitive-collaborative contradictory forces attenuate each other as location advantages fluctuate.     A transport justice approach to integrating vulnerable road users with automated vehicles

    Connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) are expected to revolutionise transport worldwide and transform urban life. However, there are many unknowns concerning the impacts of these technologies in terms of sustainability, justice, and safety. It has been suggested that CAVs may exacerbate inequities and safety disparities concerning the interaction of vulnerable road users (VRUs) with motorised transport. This paper investigates the justice issues that CAVs policy needs to address concerning VRUs. Our approach to studying CAVs’ capabilities and their potential perverse outcomes uses transport justice as an evaluative framework. The justice-related outcomes discussed include: traffic injuries, impact on sharing road responsibilities, loss of on-street space, access to technology, inclusion for disabled and older adults, CAV technological development, and impact of congestion and air pollution.     Control of Photovoltaic Plants Interconnected via VSC to Improve Power Oscillations in a Power System

    This paper presents an integrated methodology applied to photovoltaic (PV) plants for improving the dynamic performance of electric power systems. The proposed methodology is based on primary frequency control, which adds an ancillary signal to the voltage reference of the DC-link for the voltage source converter (VSC) in order to reduce power oscillations. This ancillary signal is computed by relating the energy stored in the VSC of the DC-link and the energy stored in the synchronous machine’s shaft. In addition, the methodology considers the operating limits of the VSC, which prioritizes active power over reactive power. Furthermore, the VSC control is assessed with interconnection and damping assignment passivity-based control (IDA-PBC), as well as compared to conventional PI control. IDA-PBC is employed to design a Lyapunov asymptotically stable controller using the Hamiltonian structural properties of the open-loop model of the VSC. A 12-bus test system that considers PV plants is employed to compare the proposed IDA-PBC control with a classical proportional-integral control approach. The impact of the proposed methodology is analyzed in four scenarios with different PV penetration levels (10%, 30%, 50%, and 80%) and four large disturbances in the test power system. In addition, a decrease in the inertia of the synchronous machines from 100 to 25% is analyzed. The time-domain simulation results show that the frequency oscillations are reduced by 16.8%, 38.43%, 37.53%, and 76.94% in comparison with the case where the proposed methodology was not implemented.     Design, Assembly and Working Modes of Spherical 3-RRR Coaxial Parallel Robot

    Design, configuration and operation modes of spherical 3-_RRR coaxial parallel robot were performed. A mathematical analysis of the robot was made, which consists of inverse and forward kinematic using geometric and numerical methods respectively, using MATLAB environment. Based on the above, eight possible operation and configuration modes were derived. The proposed approach demonstrates that a unique solution for the specific configuration and operation mode of a coaxial robot can be calculated. Moreover, mechanical design of the robot prototype was performed in the SolidWorks design program presented in detail for experimental verification of the performed numerical and simulation analyses. Results obtained from this work can be implemented in the development of real time orientation control systems for coaxial robots. As future works, an analysis of singularities, performance and dynamic will be carried out. © 2021 IEEE

    Design of an integrated quality management system for Colombian higher education academic programs

    In this research study an integrated quality management system is proposed for academic programs in Colombian higher education by considering the Colombian legal requirements and high quality accreditation guidelines, and the ISO 9001 standard. Concepts associated with high quality assurance, quality management, and excellence models in higher education were used as theoretical frameworks. There were three standards used: the Colombia decree 1330 of 2019, the ISO 9001 standard, and the Colombian Agreement 1 of 2020, which establishes the accreditation factors for higher education in Colombia. The results compared their characteristics and requirements. This allowed defining common processes and factors that guarantee the basic structure of an integrated quality management system while generating value for education programs. It is concluded that the ISO 9001 standard provides process management, innovation, and knowledge management. © 2021. All Rights Reserved
