Administrative efficiency of IPS providers of health entities accredited in quality in Colombia

    No full text
This study evaluated the efficiencies of the IPS health providers accredited in quality in Colombia. The normative framework associated with the Mandatory Quality System, the quality accreditation standards for the IPS and the Data Envelopment analysis models, related to the purely technical or administrative efficiency were used as theoretical support. As an epistemological conception, we worked with the logical positivism paradigm, with which the scientific verification and the logical analysis for the development of all the research were sought. The research type had an evaluative approach. As a population, 27 accredited IPS health service providers were taken, which lent their financial statements to the superintendence of health in 2015 and 2016. The inductive and deductive method was used. The information generated by the health superintendence and the Ministry of Health were used as primary sources. The DEA BCC-O model focused on the optimization of outputs was used as an analysis technique. As a result of this research, a method to evaluate the efficiencies of high-quality accredited IPSs in Colombia was provided. Likewise, it could be demonstrated with empirical evidence that the implementation of high-quality standards in the IPSs studied has a significant impact on administrative efficiency. The research showed that the best IPS accredited in Colombia was the Pablo VI Hospital in Bosa. © 2019 International Business Information Management Association (IBIMA)

This article presents a relational analysis between university quality accreditation in industrial engineering programs and the result in standardized tests of higher education in Colombia, employing machine learning techniques. First, a literature review was developed concerning quality accreditations, organizational performance evaluation and machine learning techniques. Then, a principal component analysis was developed to identify grouping factors among the universities studied. Third, supervised learning models were evaluated, to predict the accreditation of an institution based on the results of standardized exams. The results show how the written communication component is a critical variable to determine the classification of universities as accredited. In conclusion, the empirical evidence shows the existence of a relationship between having quality accreditation and having a good performance in the results of standardized tests. © 2020 Centro de Informacion Tecnologica

Bolívar, M.; Rivillas-Ospina, G.; Fuentes, W.; Guzmán, A.; Otero, L.; Ruiz, G.; Silva, R.; Mendoza, E.; Maza, M.; García, L., and Berrío, Y., 2019. Anthropic impact assessment on coastal ecosystems in the municipality of Puerto Colombia, NE Colombia. In: Silva, R.; Martínez, M.L.; Chávez, V., and Lithgow, D. (eds.), Integrating Biophysical Components in Coastal Engineering Practices. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 92, pp. 112–120. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208. Human activity, mainly associated with the construction of coastal infrastructure, has caused ecological degradation to the coastal zone at Puerto Colombia, Colombia. Severe erosion attacked the ancient sandy spit that protected the municipality from wave energy to an extent that it completely disappeared. The groins constructed thereafter, with the aim of protecting the coast, have exacerbated the sediment imbalance, affecting the Balboa coastal wetland. At present, the coastline around Puerto Colombia is highly vulnerable; the remaining ecosystems are under severe pressure, and the population is at risk. Restoring the marine and terrestrial connectivity is key to improving this situation. ©Coastal Education and Research Foundation, Inc. 2019

Recursive Convex Model for Optimal Power Flow Solution in Monopolar DC Networks

    No full text
This paper presents a new optimal power flow (OPF) formulation for monopolar DC networks using a recursive convex representation. The hyperbolic relation between the voltages and power at each constant power terminal (generator or demand) is represented as a linear constraint for the demand nodes and generators. To reach the solution for the OPF problem a recursive evaluation of the model that determines the voltage variables at the iteration (Formula presented.) ((Formula presented.)) by using the information of the voltages at the iteration t ((Formula presented.)) is proposed. To finish the recursive solution process of the OPF problem via the convex relaxation, the difference between the voltage magnitudes in two consecutive iterations less than the predefined tolerance is considered as a stopping criterion. The numerical results in the 85-bus grid demonstrate that the proposed recursive convex model can solve the classical power flow problem in monopolar DC networks, and it also solves the OPF problem efficiently with a reduced convergence error when compared with semidefinite programming and combinatorial optimization methods. In addition, the proposed approach can deal with radial and meshed monopolar DC networks without modifications in its formulation. All the numerical implementations were in the MATLAB programming environment and the convex models were solved with the CVX and the Gurobi solver. © 2022 by the author

FUZZY GAIN SCHEDULING: COMPARISON OF THE CONTROL STRATEGY

    No full text
The use of better control strategies has a great interest in all kinds of industries in recent years since it allows better use of resources and therefore becomes an important factor in reducing costs associated with reprocessing and unnecessary spending of raw materials. This research evaluates the performance of a control strategy, in which the tuning parameters of a classic controller are supplied by a fuzzy logic algorithm (Fuzzy Gain Scheduling). the behaviour of the strategy is tested in a mixer-reactor system and is compared with that achieved through the implementation of a classic controller, a dynamic matrix system, and fuzzy logic control. In the results, it can be seen that the Fuzzy Gain Scheduling strategy presents a good behaviour, improving around 25% compared with the other alternatives, this added to the advantage of being able to include previous experience on the process, in the actions that are taken by the strategy to keep desired operating ranges. © 2022 School of Engineering, Taylor's University

Política pública para a primeira infância e determinantes sociais das Doenças Respiratórias Agudas em crianças menores de cinco anos na Colômbia. Uma análise multinível

    No full text
Introduction: Despite having public policies, Acute Respiratory Diseases (ARD) continues to cause a high level of childhood morbidity in the least developed territories of Colombia. These inequities and others due to specifics regional aspects have been little examined in studies of public health in the context of very unequal countries like Colombia. Objective. Following the perspective of the social determinants of health, to incorporate an empirical analysis of the effects of social position and public health and non-health policies on the prevalence of ARDs in children under five years old. Methods. The Demographic and Health Survey was used to estimate multilevel logistical regression models as predictors of the prevalence of ARDs. Results. 21% of the change in the probability of the presence of an ARD in children can be attributed to the department in which they reside. These inequities are explained mainly by the level of individual wealth and by territory. While public health policies and territorial administration can compensate for them, the urban-rural gaps operate as barriers in the poorest departments. Conclusions. This study advances our understanding of the incidence of childhood care and attention programs on determinants of health and child welfare in generalIntroducción.

    No full text
The objective of this study is to describe the processes of identification and creation of knowledge in higher education institutions (HEI). The sample is composed of 7 universities in the city of Barranquila in Colombia, and is non-probabilistic. For this purpose, a survey was used to collect data from the directors and vice-rectors of research of the research departments. For its part, the research methodology is framed in the tools of cluster analysis and principal component analysis. The established approach made it possible to demonstrate that universities have two characteristics for identifying and creating knowledge in HEIs: community learning and individual learning. © 2022 The Authors. Measuring material thickness changes through tri-aperture digital speckle pattern interferometry

    No full text
A configuration for the measurement of thickness changes in materials through one-shot digital speckle pattern interferometry (DSPI) was developed. The phase maps calculation was made by adding carrier fringes by the multiple aperture principle and Fourier Transform Method (FTM). With this setup, interferometry configurations verified that the simultaneous and instantaneous visualization of two opposite faces of a surface is possible. In addition, the combination of the simultaneous results obtained from both sides of the material makes it possible to determine displacements with greater sensitivity or to identify changes in their thickness. The validation and demonstrative tests were carried out with a 1-mm-thick aluminum plate with a 5-mm diameter through hole coated. Thickness changes to 2 μm were measured. © 2023 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE)
