Sustainable development in Colombia: Challenges for compliance with the 2030 agenda
Among Latin American countries, Colombia is considered a pioneer in the introduction of laws and policies on environmental issues; and since 2015 the country has a national monitoring system to measure advancements in the Sustainable Development Goals. One of the problems to achieve the 2030 agenda goals, is the large gap between urban and rural areas. The results from our analysis show that compliance with the SDGs 6, 7 and 13, have a representative impact on closing this gap and in achieving the rest of the objectives; hence a development plan focused on advancing in SDGs 6, 7 and 13, is a key strategy to fulfill the 2030 Agenda. Integration of PV Distributed Generators into Electrical Networks for Investment and Energy Purchase Costs Reduction by Using a Discrete–Continuous Parallel PSO
The problem of optimally integrating PV DGs into electrical networks to reduce annual costs (which include energy purchase and investment costs) was addressed in this research by presenting a new solution methodology. For such purpose, we used a Discrete–Continuous Parallel Particle Swarm Optimization method (DCPPSO), which considers both the discrete and continuous variables associated with the location and sizing of DGs in an electrical network and employs a parallel processing tool to reduce processing times. The optimization parameters of the proposed solution methodology were tuned using an external optimization algorithm. To validate the performance of DCPPSO, we employed the 33- and 69-bus test systems and compared it with five other solution methods: the BONMIN solver of the General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) and other four discrete–continuous methodologies that have been recently proposed. According to the findings, the DCPPSO produced the best results in terms of quality of the solution, processing time, and repeatability in electrical networks of any size, since it showed a better performance as the size of the electrical system increased. © 2022 by the authors
Different Experimental and Numerical Models to Analyse Emptying Processes in Pressurised Pipes with Trapped Air
In hydraulic engineering, some researchers have developed different mathematical and numerical tools for a better understanding of the physical interaction between water flow in pipes with trapped air during emptying processes, where they have made contributions on the use of simple and complex models in different application cases. In this article, a comparative study of different experimental and numerical models existing in the literature for the analysis of trapped air in pressurised pipelines subjected to different scenarios of emptying processes is presented, where different authors have develope, experimental, one-dimensional mathematical and complex computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models (two-dimensional and three-dimensional) to understand the level of applicability of these models in different hydraulic scenarios, from the physical and computational point of view. In general, experimental, mathematical and CFD models had maximum Reynolds numbers ranging from 2670 to 20,467, and it was possible to identify that the mathematical models offered relevant numerical information in a short simulation time on the order of seconds. However, there are restrictions to visualise some complex hydraulic and thermodynamic phenomena that CFD models are able to illustrate in detail with a numerical resolution similar to the mathematical models, and these require simulation times of hours or days. From this research, it was concluded that the knowledge of the information offered by the different models can be useful to hydraulic engineers to identify physical and numerical elements present in the air–water interaction and computational conditions necessary for the development of models that help decision-making in the field of hydraulics of pressurised pipelines
Rapid Filling Analysis with an Entrapped Air Pocket in Water Pipelines Using a 3D CFD Model
A filling operation generates continuous changes over the shape of an air–water interface, which can be captured using a 3D CFD model. This research analyses the influence of different hydro-pneumatic tank pressures and air pocket sizes as initial conditions for studying rapid filling operations in a 7.6 m long PVC pipeline with an irregular profile, using the OpenFOAM software. The analysed scenarios were validated using experimental measurements, where the 3D CFD model was suitable for simulating them. In addition, a mesh sensitivity analysis was performed. Optimización de los tiempos de entrega y legalización de materiales en el área de almacén de Discol SAS
Dentro de los procesos internos de las empresas se pueden presentar dificultades en temas como el óptimo manejo de tiempo, siendo más críticos en áreas como el almacén. Esto es lo que nos motiva a desarrollar la presente propuesta de optimización de los tiempos de entrega y legalización de materiales en el área de Almacén de la empresa DISCOL SAS, especialmente dentro del proyecto ACUACAR. Se pudo identificar que, en la actualidad, existe un lapso de tiempo considerablemente largo desde los procesos de legalización hasta la entrega de materiales en el almacén, por lo que, es fundamental que se haga un rediseño de estos procesos en bodega con el fin de optimizar tiempos de operación, despliegue de cuadrillas, entrega de materiales e impactar otras variables positivamente. Esto, se desarrollará con la ayuda de una herramienta tecnológica denominada ‘AppSheet’, que permite una gestión más eficiente de la información, reduciendo los tiempos de operación al inicio de la jornada laboral. Entre los requisitos que fueron necesarios para desarrollar este proyecto se encuentran la presentación por escrito del plan propuesto, especificando los cambios sugeridos, herramientas, procedimientos y actividades requeridas para su realización e implementación. Así como el impacto o mejora que puede generar, estadísticas, indicadores, métricas o evidencias de la mejora que se obtuvo con la ejecución de la propuesta e instrucciones de uso de la herramienta tecnológica. Finalmente, podemos agregar que, para el desarrollo, los cursos aplicables del plan de estudios de ingeniería industrial de la Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar fueron gestión de la cadena de suministro, ingeniería de la productividad, mejora, gestión de operaciones de servicios y formulación y evaluación de proyectos.Ingeniero IndustrialPregrad
ARE WE THERE YET? GENDER QUOTAS IN UNIVERSITY HIERARCHIES: THE CASE OF COLOMBIA
The year 2022 was set as the deadline in the Colombian National Development Plan for reaching gender parity in all public directives. As we approach the time limit, this study takes the lead on examining the impact of the national gender quota by comparing official reports and empirical data. Official records show ongoing growth in the rate of female representation among the top decision-making levels at reporting organizations, yet closer analyses of quota-regulated universities’ performance identify divergent results. Moreover, records of job positions filled by women are systematically omitted, despite being required by law, which raises further questions about the quota’s potential to foster gender equality at the organizational level. This research addresses this data gap by examining whether having a larger proportion of women among various organizational bodies influences their rate of election to decision-making roles and explores current corporate equality strategies to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the quota’s impact. © 2022, Corvinus University of Budapest. El presente documento muestra la mirada de la dirección de proyecto, frente a los procesos de licenciamiento ambiental en Colombia, con el objetivo de identificar los diferentes contextos ambientales en las metodologías de planificación, ejecución y cierre de proyecto. Este artículo se basó en un análisis de diferentes métodos de gestión de proyectos, enfocado en aspectos legales reglamentarios que rigen en el territorio nacional, de aplicabilidad en organizaciones privadas y públicas, las cuales deben incorporar, revisar, ajustar periódicamente los procesos sistemáticos en sus proyectos que propenden por el cumplimiento de la normatividad ambiental y sostenibilidad, que el contexto social demanda de los diferentes entes organizacionales
Estructura curricular de programas universitarios de pregrado presenciales de universidades privadas en Colombia
El presente documento está orientado a describir las principales características de los programas presenciales de pregrado en universidades privadas en Colombia y su relación con el logro académico en tres áreas del conocimiento: Ciencias sociales y humanas; Economía, administración, contaduría y afines; e Ingeniería, arquitectura, urbanismo y afines. El ejercicio hace parte del proceso de rediseño curricular de la UTB 2023-2024. Se hace uso de la información reportada en el SNIES y el ICFES con miras a determinar la evolución de las principales variables relacionadas con el diseño de programas académicos presenciales de pregrado en Colombia, así como de los resultados de aprendizaje medidos por las pruebas Saber Pro. Los resultados indican que el exceso de créditos académicos por semestre

Design of an Instrument to Evaluate Organizational Design Characteristics Based on the Organizational Configuration Model
The purpose of this article was to design and validate an instrument to determine relevant variables of the business environment, demeanor, and organizational behaviors linked to the Organizational Configuration Model and its relevance in these tumultuous times driven by the pandemic. From the literature, fifty-nine organizational attributes were extracted and administered to a random sample of 160 managers. Using a combined approach, i.e., exploratory factor analysis and construct validity, a structure of eight factors were extracted that explained 66.3 percent of the total variance with an exhibited satisfactory sample adequacy for the factor analysis (KMO = 0.63). An instrument was designed with these eight factors that provided a focused and valid perspective capable of assessing the impact and continued viability of a business’s organizational configuration under unsettled economic times. © Common Ground Research Networks, Ronald R.
