Characterization of the genetic and functional diversity of the NLRome/resistome in melon (Cucumis melo L.) using Nanopore Adaptive sampling (NAS)
International audienceNucleotide-binding-site-leucine-rich-repeat (NLR) disease resistance genes encode the most important and one of the most variable family of plant resistance proteins. The characterization of their complete collection in a species (NLRome) would facilitate the creation of varieties with a very broad spectrum of resistance. However, although many efforts have been made, the specific role of each NLR gene remains largely unknown in melon. This lack of information is mainly due to their complex structure and organization, frequently arranged in clusters that include a high level of presence-absence polymorphisms. These structural singularities of NLR clusters make sequencing methods using short reads often ineffective to decipher them. To solve this problem, Nanopore Adaptive Sampling (NAS) is a cost- and labor-effective approach that provides long reads and selectively sequences pre-defined target regions. Our project pursues the implementation of NAS for the sequencing and characterization of the NLRome of melon using ≈140 varieties. In a first step, we demonstrated the performance (= increase of enrichment) of the NAS approach against whole genome sequencing (WGS) for the sequencing and assembly of the NLRome in two well-studied melon varieties, obtaining around 30X enrichment. We also assessed the transferability of our design to other varieties, in simplex- and multiplex-sequencing experiments. In the next steps of the project, we plan to continue exploring the possibilities of the NAS approach with a final goal of performing genetic association studies using the NLRome sequence variability of the ≈140 lines and their phenotypic variability against a group of selected pests and pathogens

Vocal and visual boundaries in speech: insights from spontaneous conversation
International audienceIn this talk, I will give an overview of my work that looks specifically at the expression of boundaries in speech. I will refer to different groups of studies. First, a series of observational studies investigating the use of boundaries to signal parentheticals and appositive relative clauses in spontaneous speech (Lelandais & Ferré 2014; Lelandais & Ferré 2016; Lelandais 2020). Second, an experiment which investigates the role of prosody and gesture in the perception of boundaries in speech (Lelandais & Thiberge, submitted). Third, an ongoing exploratory study in which I propose an alternative view of coordination to that of traditional syntax, based on the presence or absence of boundaries. The goal of this project is to build a multiparameter framework that accounts for coordination in different interactional contexts. Finally, I will mention short-term developments and perspectives
INVESTIR DANS UN AVENIR DURABLE : REFLEXIONS SUR LES OPPORTUNITES ET LES DEFIS POUR MADAGASCAR ET LE MONDE DANS UN CONTEXTE DE CRISE ENCASCADE
Cascading crises such as the COVID 19 pandemic, climate change, and biodiversity loss have significant impacts on sustainable development. To address these crises, it is crucial to implement policies and strategies that promote resilience, environmental sustainability, and economic development. The discussion on how to address cascading crises and invest in sustainable development aims to explore cocnrete measures that governments, international organizations, and civil society can take to strengthen their capacity to address these crises while investing in a sustainable future. Innovative and inclusive solutions to achieve sustainable.

In the last decade, more and more epidemiological and demographic studies have been carried out to discover the risk factors of diseases as well as the causes of death of a population and the classification of these causes, especially the cases of suspicious deaths which are increasing rapidly. In this research project, we focused on the study of the causes of death in the wilaya of Tlemcen by building a database collected at the level of the forensic medicine service of the University Hospital of Tlemcen, Algeria. This research report presents the context of work as well as the various medical concepts associated with it, then we describe the collected database and the various parameters characterizing it, we end with our objectives in the future which concerns the automatic classification of autopsy reports using artificial learning methods.
