    Learning the Teaching Profession in the Practicum: The Role of the Other, Modalities of Appropriation, and Professional Knowledge

    International audienceThis chapter explores learning about the teaching profession that takes place in the practicum byapplying the perspective of situated learning to study the role of other actors as a driver of learning,the modalities of appropriating contributions from the other by trainee teachers (TTs), and theprofessional knowledge they learn. It includes an exploratory case study with 13 TTs from twoChilean training centers. The self-confrontation interview was used as an information productiontechnique, with a total of 28 hours of audio recordings that were transcribed and codified by means ofanalysis of conceptualizing categories. The results show that interaction with different actors is asource of production of learning. The presence/absence of educational intentionality in theinvolvement of the other with regard to the professional learning process of the TTs also leads us toconsider interactions that are pedagogized, that is to say, the elements that emerge are intended to beunderstood as professional knowledge, while others lack an educational objective. Finally, thedifferent modalities of knowledge appropriation share the fact that they represent different ways ofexploiting the other as a driver of learning and building professional knowledge that is contextualizedin the pedagogical interventions of TT

    Mid-latitude and equatorial core surface flow variations derived from observatory and satellite magnetic data

    International audienceSummary A series of models of the Earth magnetic field and core surface flow have been simultaneously and sequentially co-estimated from year 1999 to 2022. The models were derived from magnetic satellite and ground observatory data using a linear Kalman filter approach and prior statistics based on numerical dynamo simulations. The core field and secular variation model components present the same characteristics as the most recent core field models with slightly higher resolution in time. A principal component analysis of the core surface flow series of models shows that the largest flow variations are observed at high latitudes and under the western part of the Pacific Ocean. Filtering out the flow variation periods longer than ∼11.5 years leads to a filtered azimuthal flow that presents ∼7 years periodicities with patterns propagating westward by ∼60o longitude per year. These patterns are present mainly at mid- and equatorial latitudes. They are compatible with a perturbation of the main flow made of small columnar flows with rotation axis intersecting the core-mantle boundary between 10o to 15o latitudes, and flow speed of less than 5km/y. Present at all longitudes, these columnar flows are particularly strong under the Pacific Ocean after 2013. They can also be clearly identified under the Atlantic Ocean from 2005 to 2015

    Case-Based and Quantum Classification for ERP-Based Brain–Computer Interfaces

    International audienceLow transfer rates are a major bottleneck for brain-computer interfaces based on electroencephalography (EEG). This problem has led to the development of more robust and accurate classifiers. In this study, we investigated the performance of variational quantum, quantum-enhanced support vector, and hypergraph case-based reasoning classifiers in the binary classification of EEG data from a P300 experiment. On the one hand, quantum classification is a promising technology to reduce computational time and improve learning outcomes. On the other hand, case-based reasoning has an excellent potential to simplify the preprocessing steps of EEG analysis. We found that the balanced training (prediction) accuracy of each of these three classifiers was 56.95 (51.83), 83.17 (50.25), and 71.10% (52.04%), respectively. In addition, case-based reasoning performed significantly lower with a simplified (49.78%) preprocessing pipeline. These results demonstrated that all classifiers were able to learn from the data and that quantum classification of EEG data was implementable; however, more research is required to enable a greater prediction accuracy because none of the classifiers were able to generalize from the data. This could be achieved by improving the configuration of the quantum classifiers (e.g., increasing the number of shots) and increasing the number of trials for hypergraph case-based reasoning classifiers through transfer learning

    The problematic of the use of electric vehicles, their typology and then the equations for the energies and the powers necessary for the movements are successively presented and recalled. A sample of 41 vehicles, tested by the ARGUS journal, is then analyzed and used to provide orders of magnitude to average values. These values, introduced in the equations of motion, allow to characterize the influences of acceleration, aerodynamics, mass, rolling, altitude, outside temperature and speed on energies, powers, autonomy and travel times.La problématique d’utilisation des véhicules électriques, leur typologie puis les équations pour les énergies et les puissances nécessaires aux mouvements sont successivement présentées puis rappelées. Un échantillon de 41 véhicules, testés par le journal ARGUS, est ensuite analysé puis utilisé pour fournir des ordres de grandeur à des valeurs moyennes.
