Media Reports of Child Deaths and the Relationship to Foster Care Entries and Exits
Background: Media reports of child deaths as a result of abuse and neglect can influence how children move throughout the foster care system. Using the theoretical frameworks of moral panics and street level bureaucracy, the current study examined how news reports of violent child abuse and neglect cases relate to foster care children with implications for decision-making among child welfare workers. Methods: Data from the AFCARS were assessed to evaluate the potential relationship between news report of child death and subsequent changes in trends in referrals to entry into foster care and exits out of foster care. News reports were coded using content analysis. Results: For foster care entries, there was a delayed (1–2 months after news stories) increase in foster care entries after an increase in the number of articles on child deaths. For foster care exits, there was an immediate (same month as news stories) decrease in foster care exits after an increase in the number of articles on child deaths. This relationship reversed after 1 month, with more articles resulting in increases in exits. Conclusions: Based on these results, it is possible that child services workers might be sensitive to news reports of violence against children and possibly use their professional positions to make decisions to help protect children and enact their own discretionary “street-level policies.
Migrant Misconceptions: A Review of Literature on National Heritage, Immigration Status, and Juvenile Offending
In 2020, the Pew Research Center reported over 40 million Latinx adults are immigrants and nearly 23% are U.S.-born adult children of immigrant parents. Some rhetoric that surrounds immigration is indicative of crime, criminals, and the need to build a wall to protect the U.S. border from migrant crossing. In the U.S., immigration policies apply a \u27securitized\u27 approach to criminal law enforcement involving Latinos. However, criminological literature indicates immigrants do not pose any more of a threat towards crime than a natural-born citizen. Continued research should be completed to better understand differences among immigrant youth compared to native-born Latino youth

(R1412) Stability and Bifurcation of a Cholera Epidemic Model with Saturated Recovery Rate
In this paper, a Cholera epidemic model is proposed and studied analytically as well as numerically. It is assumed that the disease is transmitted by contact with Vibrio cholerae and infected person according to dose-response function. However, the saturated treatment function is used to describe the recovery process. Moreover, the vaccine against the disease is assumed to be utterly ineffective. The existence, uniqueness and boundedness of the solution of the proposed model are discussed. All possible equilibrium points and the basic reproduction number are determined. The local stability and persistence conditions are established. Lyapunov method and the second additive compound matrix are used to study the global stability of the system. The conditions that guarantee the occurrence of local bifurcation and backward bifurcation are determined. Finally, numerical simulation is used to investigate the global dynamical behavior of the Cholera epidemic model and understand the effects of parameters on evolution of the disease in the environment. It is observed that the solution of the model is very sensitive to varying in parameters values and different types of bifurcations are obtained including backward bifurcation
Motivational Interviewing as a Therapeutic Strategy for Trafficked Persons
It is estimated that 40 million people worldwide have experienced human trafficking (UN, International Labour Organization & Walk-Free Foundation, 2019), with 313,000 trafficked persons in the state of Texas alone (Busch-Armendariz et al., 2016). These staggering numbers are indicative of human trafficking as a growing public health concern. To date researchers have neither studied nor proposed a specific psychotherapeutic modality in the treatment of trafficked persons. Given the unique concerns of this populations, including mistrust of authority, emotional coercion, and abuse by traffickers, often co-occurring substance use concerns, and difficulty with standard treatment adherence, we propose a therapeutic strategy that might assist providers in addressing a broad range of concerns, particularly assisting trafficked persons in the effort to leave their situation. This strategy is motivational interviewing (MI; Miller et al., 2009) and has shown substantial efficacy to enhance motivation to change as applied within in a broad range of healthcare settings. We briefly review the broad tenants of MI and illustrate its application within two hypothetical cases of trafficking. Future research that examines the potential benefits of MI within trafficking populations is warranted
Determinant Formulas of Some Hessenberg Matrices with Jacobsthal Entries
In this paper, we evaluate determinants of several families of Hessenberg matrices having various subsequences of the Jacobsthal sequence as their nonzero entries. These identities may be written equivalently as formulas for certain linearly recurrent sequences expressed in terms of sums of products of Jacobsthal numbers with multinomial coefficients. Among the sequences that arise in this way include the Mersenne, Lucas and Jacobsthal-Lucas numbers as well as the squares of the Jacobsthal and Mersenne sequences. These results are extended to Hessenberg determinants involving sequences that are derived from two general families of linear second-order recurrences. Finally, combinatorial proofs are provided for several of our determinant results which make use of various correspondences between Jacobsthal tilings and certain restricted classes of binary words

Effect of Magnetic and Perturbation Parameters on Blood Flow Distribution through an Artery
The motion of the blood inside an artery is investigated under the transverse magnetic field. The velocity and temperature variation of the blood flow motion are solved by perturbation technique. We considered the magnetic field is constant and viscosity of the fluid distribution depends on temperature. We derived flow rate and wall shear stress during the flow of blood through the human artery. We analyzed the effect of temperature profiles, flow rate and wall shear stress during the propagation of blood. It is observed that the human will die with respect to the increase temperature in the blood flow distribution
A Novel Color Image Encryption Scheme Based on Arnold’s Cat Map and 16-Byte S-box
The presented work sets out to subsidize to the general body of knowledge in the field of cryptography application by evolving color image encryption and decryption scheme based on the amalgamation of pixel shuffling and efficient substitution. Arnold’s cat map is applied to snap off the correlation in pixels of image and the shuffled image is encrypted by 16-byte S-box substitution. Computer simulations with a standard test image and the outcome is presented to scrutinize the competence of the projected system. Several image-quality measures and security analyses have been made out for the encrypted image to estimate the statistical and differential strength of the scheme. A comparison is presented by following out the scheme with 256-byte S-box and 16-nibble S-box to support for sturdiness of the idea. It is concluded from the results of analyses that the proposed scheme with 16-byte S-box can resist exhaustive attacks and is apt for practical applications
