    Mixed Biopolymer Systems Based on Bovine and Caprine Caseins, Yeast β-Glucan, and Maltodextrin for Microencapsulating Lutein Dispersed in Emulsified Lipid Carriers

    Lutein is an important antioxidant that quenches free radicals. The stability of lutein and hence compatibility for food fortification is a big challenge to the food industry. Encapsulation can be designed to protect lutein from the adverse environment (air, heat, light, pH). In this study, we determined the impact of mixed biopolymer systems based on bovine and caprine caseins, yeast β-glucan, and maltodextrin as wall systems for microencapsulating lutein dispersed in emulsified lipid carriers by spray drying. The performance of these wall systems at oil/water interfaces is a key factor affecting the encapsulation of lutein. The highest encapsulation efficiency (97.7%) was achieved from the lutein microcapsules prepared with the mixed biopolymer system of caprine αs1-II casein, yeast β-glucan, and maltodextrin. Casein type and storage time affected the stability of lutein. The stability of lutein was the highest (64.57%) in lutein microcapsules prepared with the mixed biopolymer system of caprine αs1-II casein, yeast β-glucan, and maltodextrin, whereas lutein microcapsules prepared with the biopolymer system of bovine casein, yeast β-glucan, and maltodextrin had the lowest (56.01%). The stability of lutein in the lutein microcapsules dramatically decreased during storage time. The antioxidant activity of lutein in the lutein microcapsules was closely associated with the lutein concentration

It serves as the sole medium to distinguish user data in the overlapping channel and is the heart of Interleave Division Multiple Access (IDMA) scheme.     In this article, the authors discusses the numerical simulations of higher-order differential equations under a fuzzy environment by using Homotopy Perturbation Method and Variational Iteration Method. The fuzzy parameter and variables are represented by triangular fuzzy convex normalized sets. Comparison of the results are obtained by the homotopy perturbation method with those obtained by the variational iteration method. Examples are provided to demonstrate the theory

    Changes in observed rainfall and temperature extremes in the Upper Blue Nile Basin of Ethiopia

    Ethiopia, a densely populated country with abundant natural resources, is often hit by climate extreme disasters that cause severe damage to life and property every year in one or the other corner. The frequency and intensity of extreme events have increased in the recent decades due to climate change and variability. This study aimed to analyze the changes in observed rainfall and minimum and maximum temperature extremes in the Upper Blue Nile Basin (UBNB) of Ethiopia from 1980 to 2019 periods. The Mann-Kendall (MK) trend test and Theil-Sen\u27s slope estimator were used to estimate annual and seasonal trends. The rainfall and temperature extremes were analyzed using RClimDex, which is a graphical user interface in R software, by selecting ten rainfall and eleven temperature indices. The results showed a positive trend in annual, dry (March–May) and small rain (October–February) seasons rainfall in more than 54% of the stations and a decreasing trend in the main rain (June–September) season rainfall in 65.4% of the stations. Several extreme rainfall indices showed insignificant positive trends in the basin. Although there is a positive trend in extreme rainfall, the number of consecutive wet days (CWD) and the simple daily intensity index (SDII) show insignificant negative trends in most stations. In addition, a warming trend of the annual and seasonal maximum and minimum temperature extreme indices was noted. Overall, the increase in extreme rainfall and a warming trend in the extreme temperature indices indicate signs of climate change in the UBNB. The findings of this study suggests the need for developing climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in the UBNB

    A Narrative Study Of Black Men Who Persist In Science, Technology, Engineering, And Mathematics At A Historically Black College And University

    The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning and hear the stories Black men ascribe to their freshman through junior years of college experiences as they persist in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in southeast Texas. The persistence rates in STEM disciplines among Black men collegians remain stagnant, and less has been written about those who persist in this discipline, particularly those who have been successful in degree attainment from an HBCU. Semi-structured 1:1 interviews were conducted with five Black men classified as seniors to capture their experiences in completing their STEM degree pursuits. The foundation was built on a conceptual model of persistence theories. As such, this study posed the following primary research question, “What are the stories and college experiences of Black men persisting in STEM disciplines at an HBCU in southeast Texas?” A qualitative approach was employed in this study with a narrative design. Findings from this study revealed several related college experiences that influence the men’s persistence during their freshman through junior years in college. The findings illuminated relevant themes concerning intrinsic factors such as individual drive and determination and extrinsic factors of collaboration, support systems, mentoring from department heads and faculty, peer study groups, peer mentoring, leadership development, networking, career preparation and exposure, internships, and alumni presence in the STEM workforce. Findings from this study adds to the literature for educational leaders in higher education to further shape internal university policies and practices to enhance the academic success of Black males in STEM disciplines

    Longitudinal Analysis: Parental Attachment Predicting Behavioral Approach/Inhibition System Regulation And Offending

    According to multiple critical pieces on early social interaction (Baumrind 1971; Bowlby, 1976; Gray, 1970), attachment figures and how they monitor their children can lead to varying outcomes depending on the quality and consistency of these interactions over time. It was hypothesized early social interactions with authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful (Baumrind, 1971) parenting can shape adolescent personality characteristics based on Bowlby’s attachment theory in conjunction with Gray’s theory of biopsychosocial personality development. Parent-child relationships can shape adolescents’ behavioral inhibition system (BIS) and behavioral activations system (BAS), which can then impact development, behavior, and offending. More specifically, it was hypothesized that lower parental quality (warmth and monitoring) would lead to higher BAS-related symptoms (impulsivity and low resistance to peer influence) over time. This BAS regulation trend would then lead to increased juvenile offending over time. The study included a sample of N = 279 adjudicated male and female adolescents aged 14-17 years old participating in the longitudinal Pathway to Desistance Study. The desired variable changes over nine-time points were analyzed using latent variable growth model analyses. Results and finding implications are discussed.     Exploring The Association Between Adversity Childhood Experiences, Parentification, Stress, And Behavioral Self-Regulation Among Predominately Black Students

    Parentification is defined as parent-child role reversal where the child acts as a parent to their caregivers and siblings (Boszormenyi-Nagy & Sparks, 1973; Haxhe, 2016). Children reared in dysfunctional families commonly experience parentification and other adverse childhood experiences (ACE; Kuperminc et al., 2013; Jurkovic, 1997). Parentification is related to a host of maladaptive psychological outcomes, including anxiety and depression, resulting from the expectations of the parentified role outweighing the child’s developmental competencies (Hooper, 2012). Although some studies report that parentification is related to adverse outcomes, some literature has found parentified children exhibit positive adaptive effects. Cultural norms and ACEs that prompt parentification significantly impact the parentified role (Khafi et al., 2014; Jurkovic, 1997), yet consideration for these critical factors are overlooked in the existing literature. Directed by the ecological-ethical perspective and social cognitive theory, the present study seeks to explore the relationship between early adversity and parentification and how together they impact self-regulation. Cultural considerations are emphasized specifically for Black families, as assuming adult responsibilities during childhood is common in this community (Boyd-Franklin, 2013). An exploratory factor analysis of Session and Jurkovic’s (1986) Parentification Questionnaire determined the factor structure within a predominately Black student sample. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the impact of early adversity and parentification on perceived stress and behavioral self-regulation. The analyses revealed a three-factor, including internalization, perceived fairness, and role induction, underlining the construction of the Parentification Questionnaire. Threat and deprivation ACE domains positively predicted internalization. The threat domains positively predicted perceived fairness. Internalization was negatively associated with poor self-efficacy, while perceived fairness was positively related to poor self-efficacy. Poor self-efficacy was negatively associated with goal setting but unrelated to impulse control. Study results clarified the Parentification Questionnaire\u27s factor structure for Black young adults and inform clinicians of parentification\u27s unique influence on behavioral self-regulation. The study findings can aid in identifying Black children and adolescents most at risk for destructive parentification and identifying pathways to maladjustment

    In this paper, we consider a nonlinear perturbed system of neutral delay integro-differential equations (NDIDEs). We prove two new theorems, Theorems 1 and 2, such that these theorems include sufficient conditions and are related to asymptotically stability of zero solution of the perturbed system of NDIDEs. The technique of the proofs depend upon the definitions of two new and more suitable Lyapunov- Krasovskiĭ functionals (LKFs). When we compared the results of this paper with those are found the literature related , our results improve and extend some classical results, and do new contributions to the topic of NDIDEs and literature
