    Navigating Triple Jeopardy: Pathways Of Career Ascension For Queer Black Women Executive Leaders In Higher Education

    Research reveals a longstanding tradition of leadership in higher education predominantly held by heterosexual White men despite the increased representation of women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals (Gagliardi et al., 2017; Jackson & Harris, 2005; Melidona et al., 2023; Moody, 2018; Titcomb, 2014; Waring, 2003). While the number of students and faculty members have grown over the last century and a half, the number of Black, women, or queer executive leaders in higher education has not shown a similar growth rate (Commodore et al., 2016; Gardner, 2019; Jackson & Harris, 2005; Melidona et al., 2023; Moody, 2018). Through the shared experiences of the four senior-level executive leaders who identify as queer Black women, this qualitative study examined intersectional experiences, career and workplace stressors, and opportunities for promotion to executive leadership for queer Black women in higher education. Using the conceptual framework Triple Jeopardy (Greene, 1998), this research was guided by the following research questions: RQ1: What are the personal barriers for queer Black women leaders who hold or aspire to hold executive leadership positions in higher education? RQ2: What are the career and workplace stressors experienced among queer Black women leaders who hold or aspire to hold executive leadership positions in higher education? RQ3: What are the career development and mentorship resources that serve as pathways for queer Black women higher education leaders for promotion to Vice President, Provost, President, or Chancellor? Each participant completed a questionnaire to determine eligibility, followed by semi-structured interviews to share their lived experiences as executive leaders in higher education. Transcription of the interviews and analysis of the data revealed the following themes: (1) Leading with Personal Authenticity: Identity, Social Identity, and Leadership, (2) Lead in Your Full Self: Intersectionality in the Workplace, (3) Equity Leadership: Belonging in the Workplace, (4) Diversity Requires Diverse Leadership, and (5) Find Your Tribe: Forge Support Relationships. Equity in leadership is crucial to ensuring equitable access to education. Diverse leadership fosters confidence that all voices will be valued on campus. This study highlights the benefits of leading authentically and forging a community to navigate the stressors of executive leadership while existing in marginalized communities.     (R2058) MHD Stagnation Point Flow of Nanofluid with Buoyancy Effect Through a Porous Shrinking Sheet

    The current investigation seeks to identify the response of buoyancy and heat source mechanisms on chemically reacting and magnetized nanofluid. The stagnation point flows through the shrinking porous surface assumed as an air-based fluid conveying nanoparticles under Buongiorno’s model. This article contributes to the existing literature with the introduction of nonlinear convection of the nanofluid, triggered by the heat source, which accelerates the temperature of the fluid particles, thus resulting in airflow upstream. Subject to these conditions, the mathematical model is presented in PDE systems. An approach of similarity variable is employed to arrive at the ODE systems, which is then approximated via the collocation method with assumed Legendre functions of the first kind. The effect of various physical properties was obtained subsequently to the results when compared, validated, and illustrated through tables and graphs. The computed results show that a rise in the buoyancy parameter diminished the temperature and increased the velocity profiles. It is also displayed that the temperature is intensified with higher thermophoresis parameters and heat source values. The presence of thermophoresis shoots up the fluid concentration away from the wall surface but significantly affects the fluid concentration negatively near the surface

    Simulating Water Stress in Sorghum-Sudangrass Forage System with Different Nitrogen Sources and Tillage Practices

    Conserving soil moisture is an important safeguard for drought resiliency in crop production for the U.S. Southern Great Plains. Conservation tillage and cover crops are tools that can provide cover and protect soils and conserve moisture. We assessed variations in simulated water-stress for sorghum-sudangrass (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench x Sorghum sudanense (P.) Stapf.) grown for forage, and examined impacts generated by tillage systems (no-till, NT and conventional, CT) and three spring crops grown for green manures (oat, field pea, grass pea) compared to a control (spring fallow and 60 kg inorganic nitrogen ha−1). We calibrated and validated CERES-Sorghum model before simulating the biomass and agroecosystem functions (crop genetics and management, and soil). Seasonal analysis method was adopted to predict biomass and other water parameters during 2006 to 2015 and available soil water in two contrasting growing seasons (2012, dry; 2015, wet) in central Oklahoma, USA. We modified genotype-specific files and parameters of the ‘Residue’ file to simulate change in available moisture by soil layer. Sorghum-sudangrass produced slightly higher amounts of biomass under NT across years and green-manure crops. Weather variables significantly influenced sorghum-sudangrass during growing seasons. Green manures increased (P \u3c 0.05) biomass production (229 to 328 kg ha−1 yr−1), irrespective of tillage system; 63% of production was explained by form of tillage. Water stress on production was affected by growing seasons but not by nitrogen treatments. More water was available in subsurface soils (15–30 cm) across years under CT and was more uniform across treatments. Water availability under NT differed among years and varied by treatments within years; oat green-manure crops reduced available soil-moisture. Heatmap analyses showed strong negative effects on soil water is from cumulative evapotranspiration, which had strong positive relationships with maximum temperatures during daylight hours and solar radiations. Management with the combination of green manure and NT or CT were found as better practice to deal with water-stress and produce better than CT-60N. Overall, green-manure crops were an effective strategy for conserving soil moisture under CT, and NT during wetter growing seasons, and could be beneficial in conserving soil water in sorghum-sudangrass systems.     Effects of Contractual Challenges in Building Information Modeling on Successful Implementation

    Building information modeling (BIM) is a technology and process that creates profound changes in construction methods, directly affecting the optimization of the execution procedure and the methods outlined in construction project contracts. There is a lack of manuals for implementing BIM contracts in most developing countries. This lack of instruction has led to a slow acceptance and implementation of BIM in many developing countries. Previous studies have determined present challenges in relations, roles, and risks of a BIM-focused contract. Thus, this research investigates and determines how these contractual challenges may affect the implementation procedure and, ultimately, the successful execution of the contractual obligations relating to the use of BIM in projects. Accordingly, after a comprehensive literature review and listing the identified challenges, two sets of data collection from construction companies were used to define the effects of BIM contractual challenges. Consequently, data verification of the contractual challenges in these two case projects indicates a rise in BIM success due to its superior handling of project execution compared to how non-BIM projects handle similar challenges

    The Influence of Jailhouse Informant Testimony on Jury Deliberation

    This study investigated the impact of jailhouse informant testimony on mock juries. In addition to allowing for jury deliberations, individual judgments (as measured in most prior research) were examined. Two hundred ninety-one undergraduates, in five to six-member mock juries, heard a fictional murder trial summary in one of three conditions: jailhouse informant testified after receiving an incentive, jailhouse informant testified after receiving no incentive, or no jailhouse informant testimony. Participants made predeliberation judgments, deliberated on a verdict, and made postdeliberation judgments. The primary results showed that there were more guilty verdicts for juries that heard jailhouseinformant testimony than for those that did not hear such testimony. This relationship was fully mediated by perceptions of the defendant (e.g., sympathy for and credibility of). In addition, jury deliberations often produced a change in verdict; those who gave an initial guilty verdict were more likely to switch to not guilty after deliberation. Finally, cognitive network analyses showed that jailhouse informant testimony was the focus of jury deliberations for both guilty (viewed the testimony as reliable) and not guilty (viewed the testimony as unreliable) verdicts. Results are discussed in terms of the importance of how jailhouse informant testimony can influence jury deliberations in both a positive and negative way
