    Hospital Volume and Textbook Outcomes in Minimally Invasive Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

    Background: Hospital volume affects outcomes of patients who underwent resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We sought to assess the impact of minimally invasive hepatectomy (MIH) volume on short- and long-term outcomes among patients with HCC. Methods: Patients who underwent MIH for HCC from 2010 to 2018 were identified from the National Cancer Database. Multivariable modeling with restricted cubic splines (RCS) was utilized to identify the MIH hospital volume threshold. Textbook outcome (TO) was defined as no conversion to open resection, negative margins after resection (R0), no extended length-of-stay, no readmission, and no 90-day mortality. Results: Among 3268 patients who underwent MIH for HCC, median age was 65.0 (IQR 59.0–72.0) and the majority was male (n = 2308, 70.6%). MIH hospital volume ranged from 1 to 87 cases, with a median of 13 (IQR 7–23). Overall, 2151 (60.9%) patients achieved TO after resection. While particularly high rates of achievement were found for no 90-day mortality (n = 3106, 95.0%), no readmission (n = 3153, 96.5%), and R0 resection (n = 3,017, 92.3%), other TO components including no conversion to open (n = 2778, 85.0%) and no prolonged LOS (n = 2584, 79.1%) were achieved less frequently. Patients treated at high-volume centers (≥50 MIH cases) were more likely to experience TO (high volume centers, n = 334, 68.7% vs. low volume centers, n = 1656, 59.5%, p \u3c 0.001) and better long-term survival (5-year OS; high volume centers, 64.7% vs. low volume centers, 54.6%, p \u3c 0.001). Conclusions: MIH hospital volume was associated with a higher likelihood of achieving TO and improved long-term survival among patients undergoing resection of HCC

    The Parent Perspective Of Parental Involvement, Academic Achievement, And Latino Fathers In An Urban School

    In the past 50 years, a significant body of literature has confirmed the importance of parental involvement in children’s education (Gugiu et al., 2018). However, despite its significance, parental involvement is not robust in many school communities (Lawson et al., 2018). According to traditional definitions of parental involvement, parents of color tend to be less involved in their child’s school (Joseph et al., 2016). Although the literature on parental involvement and communities of color has increased, most research involves mothers. What is often overlooked is the role that fathers have in supporting their children. The population for this study consisted of Latino fathers with more than one child in school and who had at least one child attending the school for at least two years. A purposeful sampling strategy was used to select the participants. Using Epstein’s (2016) framework of parental involvement, the guiding research question was: How do Latino fathers of elementary aged students understand and make meaning of their parental involvement? Additional questions were: (a) How do Latino fathers of elementary aged students make meaning of their culture in relation to parental involvement? (b) How does Epstein’s (1981) model of parental involvement illuminate the role of Latino fathers in their child’s academic career? The findings revealed three themes: Importance of Education, Value of Hard Work, and Latino Fathers and the School System. The data suggests that Latino fathers are involved in the education of their children in ways not captured by traditional definitions.     (R1975) MAP/PH(1), PH(2)/2 Queue with Multiple Vacation, Optional Service, Consultations and Interruptions

    Two types of services are explored in this paper: regular server and main server, both of which provide both regular and optional services. Customers arrive using the Markovian Arrival Process (MAP), and service time is allocated based on phase type. The regular server uses the main server as a resource. Customers’ service at the primary server is disrupted as a result. When the queue size is empty, the main server can take several vacations. This system has been represented as a QBD Process that investigates steady state with the use of matrix analytic techniques, employing finite-dimensional block matrices. Our model’s waiting time distribution has been examined in more detail during the busy times. The system’s key parameters are assessed, and a few graphs and numerical representations are constructed

    (R2052) Flow Patterns for Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Fluids in a Cylindrical Pipe

    A fully developed laminar steady flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid in a horizontal cylindrical pipe is considered here. Flow patterns for an incompressible, viscous fluid for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids such as shear-thinning, shear-thickening and Bingham plastic fluids are analyzed in this study. Assuming that the flow is only due to the wall shear stress and the pressure drop, the velocity component in the axial direction for these cases is derived. Computational results of the velocity profiles for various cases are obtained using MATLAB and presented in graphical forms. It is observed that the velocity profile is parabolic for Newtonian fluid whereas it is flatter for a shear-thinning fluid and sharper for a shear-thickening fluid. For a Bingham fluid, the velocity reaches a constant value known as the plug velocity in the central plug flow region, and it decreases gradually to zero at the pipe wall

    (R2026) Special Smarandache Ruled Surfaces According to Flc Frame in E^3

    In this study, we introduce some special ruled surfaces according to the Flc frame of a given polynomial curve. We name these ruled surfaces as TD2, TD1 ve D2D1 Smarandache ruled surfaces and provide their characteristics such as Gauss and mean curvatures in order to specify their developability and minimality conditions. Moreover, we examine the conditions if the parametric curves of the surfaces are asymptotic, geodesic or curvature line. Such conditions are also argued in terms of the developability and minimality conditions. Finally, we give an example and picture the corresponding graphs of ruled surfaces by using Maple 17
