An examination of the electronic market hypothesis in the US home mortgage industry: A deductive case study
The purpose of this paper is to longitudinally test the propositions of the Electronic Market Hypothesis (EMH) within the context of the US home mortgage industry. The paper uses a deductive, positivist case study, through a systematic examination of “texts” in the trade press over three time periods: 1995-1999, 2000-2002, and 2003-2007. EMH propositions, while generally not found to be valid in the early years, were more consistent with evidence in the home mortgage industry in the later period. Throws fresh light on the debate between the appropriateness and the inappropriateness of the EMH as a core theory explaining the influence of Information Technology on market and industry structures. Designing of corporate strategies to foster efficient market mechanisms. Using a relatively uncommon (analysis of primary data from trade press articles) qualitative research methodology which could serve as a guideline for future research. This approach offers opportunities to use various trade press sources to perform studies on the effects of IT on people, such as analyzing how IT departments are adapting their governance practices as workers increasingly use personal computing devices to access organizational assets (e.g., networks, applications, and data). © 2013, Emerald Group Publishing Limited. Infusing ethical considerations in knowledge management scholarship: Toward a research agenda
The authors of this paper believe that scholarly work on knowledge management (KM) has largely overlooked ethical considerations. As such, this paper argues for the infusion of ethical considerations into knowledge management (KM) research. Using the lens of the classical ethical theories in philosophy, this paper revisits key areas of KM-knowledge creation, storage and access, transfer, and application-and generates relevant research questions in each of these areas. The paper highlights the importance of examining ethical issues related to KM, and offers an illustrative set of ethically-informed research themes and questions that can potentially be investigated by future studies
US remittances to the Caribbean, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago
A remittance is part of an employee\u27s wages or salary that is sent back home. Remittances not only help the workers\u27 family members, but also help the home countries to strengthen their balance of payments. Remittances are remuneration to employees from the economy in which they work, and thus they contribute to both the gross domestic product (GDP) and the gross national income (GNI) of that economy. Because of their stability and dependability, remittances have become a permanent fixture of governments\u27 financial revenues. The primary objective of this research is to determine whether foreign nationals make a significant contribution to the level of remittances and what some of the determinants are. We utilize three models to test whether the categories of foreign nationals - immigrants admitted; persons naturalized; and non-immigrants admitted as temporary workers, exchange visitors and intra-company transferees - send significant amounts of remittances. In this work, we look at the flow of remittances during the 1982-2001 period from the United States to the Caribbean region, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. The results indicate that the number of immigrants admitted , persons naturalized and non-immigrants admitted as temporary workers, exchange visitors and intra-company transferees , together with the exchange rate , the Hispanic unemployment rate and the median income of Hispanic families , are significant determinants in the size of remittances. When the results are extrapolated, the number of immigrants admitted produces the maximum remittance flow to Jamaica. The number of persons naturalized is important to the total remittances for the overall Caribbean region. The non-immigrant temporary worker group is the largest single source of remittances. This group may potentially send US$15 billion to Trinidad and Tobago. © 2012 The Authors International Migration © 2012 IOM
Reconsidering philosophical questions and neuroscientific answers: Two pillars of inquiry
I propose the next steps in the neuropragmatic approach to philosophy that has been advocated by Solymosi and Shook (2013). My focus is the initial process of inquiry implicit in addressing philosophical questions of cognition and mind by utilizing the tools of neuroscientific research. I combine John Dewey\u27s pattern of inquiry with Charles Peirce\u27s three forms of inference in order to outline a methodological schema for neuropragmatic inquiry. My goal is to establish ignorance and guessing as well-defined pillars of methodology upon which to build a neuropragmatic approach to inquiry. First, I outline Dewey\u27s pattern of inquiry, highlighting the initial problematic phase in which recognized ignorance provides the basis upon which to frame a philosophical problem and initiate the trajectory by which philosophical questions may be addressed with the assistance of neuroscientific evidence. Second, I provide an outline of Peirce\u27s three forms of inference, focusing upon the first phase of abduction: guessing. Third, I explain the transition between ignorance and guessing, urging the benefit of attending to these two aspects of inquiry. Finally, I provide an initial sketch indicating the next steps concerning a pragmatic reconstruction of neurophilosophy, pointing towards the need for a more thorough examination of scientific methodology within and following analyses of philosophical problems and neuroscientific evidence. © 2013 Versita Warsaw and Springer-Verlag Wien
Bianchi Type I Magnetized Cosmological Model with Λ-Term in Bimetric Theory of Gravitation
In this paper, we investigated Bianchi Type I magnetized cosmological model with cosmological constant in Rosen’s bimetric theory of gravitation by using the techniques of Letelier and Stachel. The nature of the model is discussed in presence as well as in absence of the magnetic field and cosmological constant. Our model exists and it never goes to vacuum if cosmological constant is not equal to zero and for finite value of cosmic time. In the presence of magnetic field, our model goes to vacuum when the cosmic time tends to minus infinity. Further in the absence of magnetic field the model exists if cosmological constant is negative and n lies between zero and half and our model is filled with dark matter if cosmological constant is positive and n is greater than half. It is realized that, in the absence of cosmological constant our model goes over to the vacuum model
