    On Some Statistics for Testing the Skewness in a Population: An Empirical Study

    The purpose of this paper is to propose some test statistics for testing the skewness parameter of a distribution, not limited to a normal distribution. Since a theoretical comparison is not possible, a simulation study has been conducted to compare the performance of the test statistics. We have compared both parametric methods (classical method with normality assumption) and non-parametric methods (bootstrap in Bias Corrected Standard Method, Efron’s Percentile Method, Hall’s Percentile Method and Bias Corrected Percentile Method). Our simulation results indicate that the power of the tests differ significantly across sample sizes, the choice of alternative hypotheses and methods one choose. When the data are generated from a normal distribution, both classical method and Efron’s Percentile Method can attain a nominal size of 0.05, while other bootstrap methods cannot. However, for a skewed distribution, bootstrap methods show higher power with larger sample sizes whereas the classical method only performs well when the sample size is small

    Generalized statistical summability of double sequences and Korovkin type approximation theorem

    In this paper, we introduce the notion of statistical (λ, μ)-summability and find its relation with (λ, μ)-statistical convergence. We apply this new method to prove a Korovkin type approximation theorem for functions of two variables. Furthermore, we provide an example in support to show that our result is stronger than the previous ones

    Hematocrit Level on Blood flow through a Stenosed Artery with Permeable Wall: A Theoretical Study

    The paper deals with the hematocrit level on resistance of flow, wall shear stress in a stenosed artery of permeable wall. In the paper we have developed and solved some theoretical formulas based on stenosis and hematocrit effects. The results highlight that the resistance of flow increases for increasing of stenosis height where the hematocrit level (35%-45%) has significant effects. Moreover, the effects of slip parameter and Darcy number due to permeability of the wall on resistance of flow have been investigated. The effects of hematocrit level, slip parameter and Darcy number have been focused on wall shear stress of the permeable inner surface of the artery which has a fashion of downwardly concave for increasing of the z-axis of the artery

    In this paper, is proposed the existence and uniqueness of the solution of all fuzzy fractional differential equations, which are equivalent to the fuzzy integral equation. The techniques on LP-spaces are used, defining the LpF F ([0; 1]) for 1≤P≤∞, its properties, and using the functional analysis methods. Also the convergence of the method of successive approximations used to approximate the solution of fuzzy integral equation be proved and an iterative procedure to solve such equations is presented

    Heat and Mass Transfer Effects of Peristaltic Transport of a Nano Fluid in Peripheral layer

    This paper deals with a theoretical investigation of heat and mass transfer effects of peristaltic transport of a nanofluid in peripheral layer. By using appropriate methods, the velocity in the core region as well as in the peripheral region, pressure drop, time averaged flux, frictional force, temperature profile, nanoparticle phenomenon, heat transfer coefficient and mass transfer coefficient of the fluid are investigated, using lubrication theory. Effects of different physical parameters like viscosity ratio, mean radius of the central layer, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, local temperature Grashof number as well as local nanoparticle Grashof number on pressure rise characteristics, frictional force, heat transfer coefficient, mass transfer coefficient, velocity profiles and streamline patterns of the fluid are studied. The computational results are presented in graphical form

    The aim of this paper is to establish two general finite integral formulas involving the generalized Bessel-Maitland functions Jμ,γν,q (z). The result given in terms of generalized (Wright’s) hypergeometric functions pΨq and generalized hypergeometric functions pFq . These results are obtained with the help of finite integral due to Lavoie and Trottier. Some interesting special cases involving Bessel-Maitland function, Struve’s functions, Bessel functions, generalized Bessel functions, Wright function, generalized Mittag-Leffler functions are deduced

    Agricultural Vinegar as a growth control agent for both Glyphosate susceptible (GS) Amaranthus palmeri and Glyphosate resistant (GR) Amaranthus palmeri

    Background: Annually farmers in the United States suffer crop losses due to the invasive weed, Amaranthus palmeri. The two major reasons for the losses are: the rapid reproduction and adaptability of this aggressive species. The dioecious Amaranthus has adapted so rapidly that some populations of Amaranthus are resistant to the traditional glyphosate herbicides. Glyphosate was introduced as an herbicide and was considered unlikely to cause resistant populations of plant species. The mechanism of action, lack of metabolic degradation in plants or residual activity in the soil made it a very popular herbicide hoice. Over time glyphosate resistant (GR) Amaranthus palmeri species emerged. This new GR Amaranthus palmeri calls for a new herbicide, preferably an organic herbicide. Agricultural Vinegar (vinegar with 20% acetic acid) is an effective, non-selective organic herbicide. Over time, a buildup of acetic acid may cause harm to the ecosystem. Methods: We are looking at organic herbicide solutions that contain lesser concentrations of acetic acid. For this experiment, we used solutions with 5%, 10%, and 20% acetic acid. These solutions were applied when the plants were young (less than 10 days) and less than 4 cm tall. We are observing the effects of the solution on the epicuticular wax and epidermal layers. We hypothesized that when applied very early, lower concentrations of agricultural vinegar (5%, 10%, or15%) can slow or stop growth and allow for the desired crop to outcompete the weeds

    Structural level differences in the mother-to-child HIV transmission rate in South Africa: A multilevel assessment of individual-, health facility-, and provincial-level predictors of infant HIV transmission

    Objectives: In 2010, South Africa reported an early mother-tochild transmission (MTCT) rate of 3.5% at 4-8 weeks postpartum. Provincial early MTCT rates ranged from 1.4% [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.1 to 3.4] to 5.9% (95% CI: 3.8 to 8.0). We sought to determine reasons for these geographic differences in MTCT rates. Methods: This study used multilevel modeling using 2010 South African prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) evaluation (SAPMTCTE) data from 530 facilities. Interview data and blood samples of infants were collected from 3085 mother-infant pairs at 4-8 weeks postpartum. Facility-level data on human resources, referral systems, linkages to care, and record keeping were collected through facility staff interviews. Provincial level data were gathered from publicly available data (eg, health professionals per 10,000 population) or aggregated at province-level from the SAPMTCTE (PMTCT maternal-infant antiretroviral (ARV) coverage). Variance partition coefficients and odds ratios (for provincial facility- and individual-level factors influencing MTCT) from multilevel modeling are reported. Results: The provincial- (5.0%) and facility-level (1.4%) variance partition coefficients showed no substantive geographic variation in early MTCT. In multivariable analysis accounting for the multilevel nature of the data, the following were associated with early MTCT: individual-level-low maternal-infant ARV uptake [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.5, 95% CI: 1.7 to 3.5], mixed breastfeeding (AOR = 1.9, 95% CI: 1.3 to 2.9) and maternal age \u3c20 years (AOR 1.8, 95% CI: 1.1 to 3.0); facility-level-insufficient (≤2) health care-personnel for HIV-testing services (AOR = 1.8, 95% CI: 1.1 to 3.0); provincial-level PMTCT ARV (maternal-infant) coverage lower than 80% (AOR = 1.4, 95% CI: 1.1 to 1.9), and number of health professionals per 10,000 population (AOR = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.98 to 0.99). Conclusions: There was no substantial province-/facility-level MTCT difference. This could be due to good overall performance in reducing early MTCT. Disparities in human resource allocation (including allocation of insufficient health care personnel for testing and care at facility level) and PMTCT coverage influenced overall PMTCT programme performance. These are long-standing systemic problems that impact quality of care
