A New Approach to Solve Multi-objective Transportation Problem
In this paper, a simple approach is proposed to obtain the best compromise solution of linear multiobjective transportation problem (MOTP). Using this approach, we get unique efficient solution. Because unique efficient extreme point obtained by proposed approach directly leads to compromise solution, which is preferred by decision maker. Also this approach is simple to use and less time consuming. For the application of proposed approach, numerical examples are considered from existing literature and are solved with proposed method
An Ishikawa-type Iterative Algorithm for Solving A Generalized Variational Inclusion Problem Involving Difference of Monotone Operators
In this paper, we study a generalized variational inclusion problem involving difference of monotone operators in Hilbert spaces. We established equivalence between the generalized variational inclusion problem and a fixed point problem. We establish an Ishikawa type iterative algorithm for solving a generalized variational inclusion problem involving difference of monotone operators, which is more general than Mann-type iterative algorithm. An existence result as well as a convergence result are proved separately. The problem of this paper is more general than many existing problems in the literature. Several special cases of generalized variational inclusion problem involving difference of monotone operators are also mentioned
Study of Soret and Ion slip effects on MHD flow near an Oscillating Vertical Plate in a Rotating System
This study analyses the Soret, Hall and ion slip effects on a free convective flow of an electrically conducting, incompressible and viscous fluid near the vertical oscillatory infinite plate in a rotating system. A set of dimensionless governing equations of the model is obtained. As the equations are linear, an exact solution can be obtained by using Laplace transform method. The influence of various parameters on the concentration, temperature, velocity, Sherwood number and Nusselt number are discussed with the help of graphs. The numerical values of skin-friction are shown in tables. Applications of the study arise in field like planetary and solar plasma fluid dynamical systems, magnetic field controlled materials processing systems, rotating MHD induction machine energy generators etc
When a corporation rapes: perceptions of rape in civil court for corporate defendants
In recent years, the coupling of poor outcomes for rape victims in criminal court and the widening scope of legal responsibility for sexual assault has prompted plaintiffs to file civil suits for rape against corporations. Unfortunately, we know little about juror perception of civilly litigated rape against corporate defendants and most jury research involving corporate defendants concerns non-sexual injury cases (e.g. premises liability, automobile accidents). With the increasing number of corporations being sued civilly for rape, we need to understand how civil juries perceive these cases. The present study investigated mock jurors’ perceptions of a fictional civil rape trial against a hotel. Community members (N = 155) read one of three trial summaries: Civil rape trial against the alleged perpetrator, civil rape trial against a hotel, or criminal rape trial. Results indicate females have higher pro-plaintiff judgments than males in civil court, perceptions of greed typically associated with civil litigation apply to rape, and favorable plaintiff decisions are most likely against a corporate defendant. Also, mental models suggest mock jurors conceptualize criminal and civil rape cases against an individual similarly. We discuss our results in terms of psychological, legal and practical expectations when suing for rape
Reflection, Calibration and Achievement In Introductory Calculus
Studies indicate that calculus acts as a filter for students entering into a STEM discipline, pushing some students to leave their field of study due to failure or disheartenment after going through the course. Since the demand for STEM-trained graduates grows, it is imperative to determine how to prevent more students from switching away from their STEM disciplines. The purpose of this project was to investigate whether the concept of calibration could increase student performance in introductory calculus in order to retain as many students as possible. This was a quasi-experimental study, conducted in calculus I and II courses, imploring CLEAR calculus, which is a nontraditional class style. Results indicated that in calculus I, with data from the first four classroom exams, the calibration could predict performance on the final exam. With calculus II, however, GPA was the only contributing factor to the final exam score. This implies that calibration may be more important in the first course, though further investigation is needed
Evaluating alternative crosslinking agents in poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogels membranes
Hydrogels are a network of polymer chains with properties that absorb, store and transport solutions. A hydrogel membrane has a permeability that allows influx and excretion. Therefore, it is the ideal material for medicated membranes. This study investigates the crosslinking of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel membranes using different agents and explores the usability of the candidate membranes as drug delivery systems. The model protein, bovine albumin serum (BSA), was used to test the stability and controlled drug release rate characteristics of the candidate hydrogel membranes. This investigation also evaluated the stability different crosslinkers for hydrogel membranes. Glutaraldehyde (GA) and an alternative crosslinking method of ultraviolet irradiation with the sensitizer, sodium benzoate (SB), were used to crosslink PVA containing BSA. In GA crosslinked membranes, BSA release diffusion experiments showed 48%, 45%, and 63% recovery of protein at pH 6.5, 7.4 and 8.0, respectively; this confirmed that this system is suited for physiological conditions and controlled release. Although SB has been used for membrane fabrication, our Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) results indicate that UV(SB)-crosslinked films are not suited for drug delivery, despite the release of BSA

Cultural Humility and Dewey\u27s Pattern of Inquiry: Developing Good Attitudes and Overcoming Bad Habits
When we assume that we have cultural competence rather than thoroughly engaging in what Dewey calls the pattern of inquiry, we fail to achieve cultural humility. By analyzing how habits undermine inquiry and underlie failure in situations that call for cultural humility, we may be better equipped to address unintentional offenses. In this essay, I define cultural humility and contrast it with cultural competence, explaining why aiming for cultural competence alone is problematic. Next, I consider the attributes necessary for cultural humility and the attitudes that Dewey considers beneficial for inquiry. This is followed by an outline of Dewey\u27s pattern of inquiry and explanation of how unquestioned habits of thought short-circuit our ability to become culturally humble. I suggest that we forgo attempting to achieve cultural competence and instead use Dewey\u27s pattern of inquiry with the attitudes he recommends as tools to work toward cultural humility

Resonance in the Motion of a Geocentric Satellite due to Poynting-Robertson Drag
The problem of resonance in a geocentric Satellite under the combined gravitational forces of the Sun and the Earth due to Poynting-Robertson (P-R) drag has been discussed in this paper with the assumption that all three bodies, the Earth, the Sun and the Satellite, lie in an ecliptic plane. Our approach differs from conventional ones as we have placed evaluated velocity of the Satellite in equations of motion.We observed five resonance points commensurable between the mean motion of the Satellite and the average angular velocity of the Earth around the Sun, out of which two resonances occur only due to velocity dependent terms of P-R drag. Amplitudes and time periods are periodic with respect to the angle (angle between direction of vernal equinox and the direction of the Sun) which have been evaluated graphically in this paper.We have also found that amplitude as well as time-period decreases as orbital angle of the Earth around the Sun increases in the first quadrant
