Quasi-linearization method with rational Legendre collocation method for solving MHD flow over a stretching sheet with variable thickness and slip velocity which embedded in a porous medium
The quasi-linearization method (QLM) and the rational Legendre functions are introduced here to present the numerical solution for the Newtonian fluid flow past an impermeable stretching sheet which embedded in a porous medium with a power-law surface velocity, variable thickness and slip velocity. Firstly, due to the high nonlinearity which yielded from the ordinary differential equation which describes the proposed physical problem, we construct a sequence of linear ODEs by using the QLM, hence the resulted equations become a system of linear algebraic equations. The comparison with the available results in the literature review proves that the obtained results via QLM are accurate, and the method is reliable

Restricted Three-Body Problem Under the Effect of Albedo When Smaller Primary is a Finite Straight Segment
This paper addresses the dynamics of the infinitesimal body in the restricted three-body problem under the effect of Albedo when the smaller primary is a finite straight segment and bigger one is a source of radiation. The measure of diffusive reflection of solar radiation out of the total solar radiation received by a body is Albedo which is measured on a scale from 0 to 1. The equations of motion of the infinitesimal body are derived and it is found that there exist five libration points, out of which three are collinear and the rest are non-collinear with the primaries. All the collinear libration points are found to be unstable while the non-collinear libration points are stable for a critical value of the mass parameter. The perturbation of libration points and its stability due to the effect of Albedo and straight segment in the present problem are investigated. Further, it is found that the effect of Jacobian constant, length of the straight segment and Albedo parameter has a substantial influence on the possible regions of motion of the infinitesimal body. It is observed that when the value of the Jacobian constant decreases, the region of possible motion increases. When the length of the straight segment increases, the region of possible motion increases. Further, it is observed that as we increase the Albedo parameter, the region of possible motion decreases
The Basins of Convergence in the Planar Restricted Four-body Problem with Variable Mass
We have studied the existence, location and stability of the libration points in the model of restricted four-body problem (R4BP) with variable mass. It is assumed that three primaries, one dominant primary and the other two with equal masses, are always forming an equilateral triangle. We have determined the equations of motion of the above mentioned problem for the fourth body which is an infinitesimal mass. The libration points have been determined numerically for different values of the parameters considered. It is found that there are eight or ten libration points out of which six are non-collinear and two or four are collinear depending upon the values of mass parameter and the constant of proportionality occurring in Jeans’ law. The regions of motion of the infinitesimal mass have been drawn and investigated. We have also examined the stability of each libration point and found that all the libration points are unstable. Further, the Newton-Raphson basins of attraction are drawn for different set of parameters used
A Methodology to Manage Point Cloud Data for Use in Robotic Applications
This paper proposed a methodology to generate point cloud data that is not encrypted without using expensive 3D scanners or software. The point cloud data generated can be color coded based on users\u27 need and it can be easily visualized. A graphical user interface is created to automate the generation and customization process for users without knowing all the technical details. A pick and place application is used to demonstrate its effectiveness. The point cloud data is used to teach a SCARA robot all the critical paths instead of teaching it manually

Relationships between religious characteristics and response to legal action against parents who choose faith healing practices for their children
Individuals\u27 religious characteristics (e.g., orthodox beliefs) are related to support for legal actions (e.g., the death penalty). The current study explores whether or not orthodoxy, fundamentalism, intrinsic religiosity, quest, and immanence are related to support for legal actions against parents who refuse medical treatment for their children in favor of faith healing. Participants read 6 scenarios, which varied factors such as the child\u27s ailment and the type of treatment that would be required, and indicated support for legal actions against parents who used faith healing. Greater support for legal actions was positively associated with fundamentalism, evangelism, and immanence, and negatively associated with quest. Also, individuals supported legal action against parents more when the child\u27s illness was considered curable rather than incurable, suggesting that the effectiveness of traditional medicine might relate to support for punishment. Results are the first step in explaining how religious characteristics relate to attitudes toward faith healing
Outcomes of Advancing Women Faculty in Engineering and Technology at Historically Black Colleges and Universities: A Retrospective Analysis of ADVANCE-PAID Participants
Keeping up with their historic missions, historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have selected and granted progressively more number of degrees to women over the past few decades. From 1993 to 2006, the number of black women undergrads receiving degrees at HBCUs increased by 24%. For example, in 2002, 75% of black women awarded doctorates in Biology had baccalaureate origins from HBCUs. In 2006, data revealed that there were 900 black women faculty in STEM disciplines at HBCUs and 2,810 black women faculty at non-HBCUs. They accounted for 22% and 2% of the faculty at HBCUs and non-HBCUs. The ADVANCE-PAID project, Advancing Women Faculty in Engineering and Technology at HBCUs, was a collaboration between Prairie View A&M University and Texas A&M University that received National Science Foundation funding from September 2009 through August 2014. The project implemented four key activities: (1) annual workshops; (2) seed grants to support research efforts; (3) professional career coaching; and (4) weekly writing groups. Forty-seven women faculty from 14 HBCUs attended at least one annual workshop, 13 from 9 HBCUs received seed grants,11 from 9 HBCUs participated in career coaching, and between 4 and 6 women attended weekly writing groups. A retrospective analysis was conducted to determine the long-term impacts of the four activities. One-on-one, semi-structured interviews were conducted with past participants to determine the impact activities had on their careers. Current faculty rank and position of each participant were compared to the rank and position held when they initially participated in ADVANCE-PAID activities. Surveys were sent to participants to assess how this project impacted their success, informed their decision or interest in pursuing administration, and how the various activities helped them overall. Group averages were compared by activity or combination of activities
African American emerging adults? experiences with racial discrimination and drinking habits: The moderating roles of perceived stress
Objectives: Despite the abundance of research aimed at quantifying the impact of racism on the mental and physical health of African Americans, results remain inconclusive largely because of challenges with operationalization, as well as conflation with the concept of racial discrimination, which may be more readily assessed. The purpose of the current study was to: (a) determine whether racial discrimination had an impact on the degree of alcohol use and binge drinking among African American emerging adults, and if so, (b) determine whether perceived stress linked to racially discriminatory experiences moderated these associations. Method: We used a series of hierarchical regressions to examine associations among racial discrimination, perceived stress, and degree of alcohol consumption in a sample of African American emerging adults in the southeast (n = 235). Results: We found that the association between racial discrimination and degree of alcohol consumption (alcohol use and binge drinking) was strongest among individuals who reported greater levels of perceived stress linked to racial discrimination experiences. This association, however, was not significant for individuals who reported lower levels of perceived stress in response to racial discrimination. Conclusions: African Americans who experience a high degree of perceived stress in response to experiences with racial discrimination may be at greater risk for problem drinking than their peers with less perceived stress. These findings highlight the need for novel intervention efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of stress and racial discrimination on health outcomes
Global challenges and adaptations in management practices to preserve soil carbon pool with changing climate
Increasing CO2 levels and its consequent effects have been prominent with climate change. Three out of ten transgressed planetary boundaries reflect our planet’s status at tipping point. Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) which helps soil supply water and nutrients to plants through roots is inherently related to various ecological systems and needs urgent attention. Although the total SOC globally is more than the total carbon in biosphere and atmosphere, the vulnerability of SOC due to anthropogenic activities is unavoidable. The environmental factors affecting sequestration of SOC, soil fertility, crop production, accelerated SOC removal with rising temperatures, green-house gases emissions and climate change are interrelated. Thus, it is impossible to understand and estimate the various scenarios of impacts on SOC pool with ever-changing ecosystems and related processes in soil environment completely. Based on currently predicted climate change scenarios, if deforestation is controlled and reestablishment is achieved, tropical forests can trap atmospheric CO2 in the cheapest way and function as the largest sink on earth. The agricultural management practices (AMPs), which have been practiced in the last two decades and found helpful are suitable. However, some innovative adaptations such as crop modelling, selecting types of residue to change microbial communities, practices of grassland-grazing and low-C-emission AMPs are also necessary. To achieve the millennium development goals, we must accomplish food security, which relates all 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) also relays agricultural systems, soil systems, ecosystem services, soil fertility and how best we nurture SOC pool with supportive AMPs
