Track My Ride
Cycling has become more and more popular as a healthy activity and a transport option across many countries. This is not different in Ireland, a country where in April 2016, 56,837 people cycled to work; an increase of 43% since 2011 (Central statistics office, 2017).
Irish Government “committed to developing cycling as one of the most desirable modes of travel by 2020” as it plays an indispensable role in people’s lives (Sustainable transport division - department of transport, tourism and sport, 2009).
The “Balance” team managed to visualize that a strong cycling culture was becoming important in Ireland. Hence our team was seeking to develop a mobile application called “Track my Ride” to contribute to the cycling community whilst by answering a crucial question:
How can a cyclist manage and store its bike details?
Answering that question, we have intended provide tools where the cyclists could discard common concerns such as:
● Is this second-hand bike reported as missing?
● Is there any bike parking space near a specific location?
● How can I warn people if my bike goes missing?
Track My Ride is a bike management tool for bike-users, previous and/or future bike owners. Our main objective is to facilitate the way people manage and use their bikes, enhancing the cyclists experience while building an active online and collaborative cycling community
Smart Wearable Device for Reduction of Parkinson’s Disease Hand-Tremor
Parkinson\u27s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects over 10 million people worldwide (Health Unlocked, 2017). People diagnosed with Parkinson\u27s Disease can experience tremors, muscular rigidity and slowness of movement. Tremor is the most common symptom and external agents like stress and anxiety can make it worse, which may cause complications to complete simple day-to-day tasks.
Therefore Bio Protech proposes the development of a smart wearable device for reduction of the hand-tremors based on medical evidence that by applying vibration to the wrist may result in a reduction of the involuntary tremor. The device imitates the shape of a wristwatch and the vibration is supplied by motors placed around the wrist. The users will be given the possibility to regulate the frequency according to their needs using a mobile application connected via Bluetooth
AdvCon, Beacon devices and electronic advertisement
Technology is increasingly becoming an important ally for business, so it is important to develop studies and research that bring innovation to the market.
This report is about implementation of an app that utilizes a Bluetooth communication as a way of send low data information to a mobile device as an advertisement and how it would help on the business growth.
The research that were carried out in order to bring more knowledge about the beacon technology that is being the basis of our project and mobile devices app development.
It was found that there is still more to be explored in relation to this technology and much can be done using beacon devices.
the technology we seek to implement aims to solve the problem of companies with regard to the lack of visibility of their stores and the possibility of reaching a greater number of customers
MySmartPi
Nowadays, accessing the Internet in a secure way in a big concern for many people due to the increase of cybersecurity attacks and the vulnerability of the data that is transferred online. In order to address such vulnerabilities, the use of a Virtual Private Network is really important. Not only for security reasons, but also to access resources of the network, such as printers, files or web pages. Considering that many people, especially IT students, have curiosity and enjoy creating their own technologies, this project aims to create a user manual to teach how people can create their own VPN server at home using a Raspberry Pi and to access their files and folders which are in the network. For that, tutorials were used and adapted in order to install the VPN server and NAS. In order to prove that the whole process was successful, some tools, such as, Wireshark, were used to show how the network traffic works once the VPN is used. The process was successful and many concepts were learnt and used such as Cryptography, Port forwarding, dynamic DNS, OpenVPN, etc
