Laughter regulation in solitary and social contexts varies across emotion regulation strategies

    No full text
Across three experiments, we examined how distraction, cognitive reappraisal, and expressive suppression affect laughter-related facial expressions and amusement ratings during exposure to jokes. Laughter regulation was operationalized by means of facial electromyography (fEMG) and subjective ratings of funniness as proxies for the expression and experience of amusement. In Experiments 1 and 2 (n = 40 each), distraction and expressive suppression most strongly reduced facial activity, whereas reappraisal produced smaller but consistent effects. However, only reappraisal reliably decreased funniness ratings, suggesting selective effects on the cognitive evaluation of humor. Experiment 3 (n = 41) introduced social laughter feedback and revealed that the presence of another’s laughter impaired expression control and increased funniness ratings, indicating that social cues shape both emotional expression and experience. Together, these findings show how distinct emotion-regulation strategies modulate amusement and laughter expressions in response to humorous stimuli and highlight the contextual sensitivity of laughter regulation in socially dynamic settings

Metadata for publication "Comparison of marker-less 2D image-based methods for infant pose estimation"

    No full text
This study compares the performance of available generic- and specialized infant-pose estimators for a video-based automated general movement assessment (GMA), and the choice of viewing angle for optimal recordings, i.e., conventional diagonal view used in GMA vs. top-down view. 4500 annotated video-frames from 75 recordings of infant spontaneous motor functions from 4 to 16 weeks were used. The models retrained on infant data are published on Zenodo: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1483318

Sap flow measurements of beech, spruce and Douglas fir in pure and mixed stands in a wet and a dry year in a sandy soil

    No full text
This dataset accompanies a study quantifying stand-level water use of European beech (Fagus sylvatica), Norway spruce (Picea abies), and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) in pure and mixed stands under contrasting climatic conditions. Using sap flux systems, we monitored tree and stand transpiration on deep sandy soil during one wet and one dry year to assess how species identity, mixing, and interannual variation in water availability affect total forest water consumption. The dataset provides detailed sap flux, transpiration, and climatic data useful for modelling forest water fluxes and evaluating the hydrological consequences of species composition and drought. It contributes to understanding how species mixing can modulate stand-level water consumption and supports management strategies for climate-resilient forests in Central Europe

    No full text

    Stable_water_isotopes_2022

    No full text
The data set contains stable water isotope data measured on water extracted from (1) soil samples of different depths and (2) tree xylem of suberized twigs of 12 different trees. Samples were taken (1) with a Pürckhauer soil corer and (2) by tree climbers on RTG2300 plots 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 during summer 2022 in weekly intervals and were extracted using cryogenic vacuum distillation. The obtained water samples were analyzed for the isotopic compositions of hydrogen and oxygen at the Center for Stable Isotope Research and Analysis (KOSI, Georg-August-University Göttingen, Germany), using a high temperature conversion analyzer (TC/EA, Thermo Electron Corporation, Bremen, Germany) coupled via a Con-Flo III interface to a Delta V Plus isotope ratio mass spectrometer (Thermo Electron Corporation, Bremen, Germany)
