Hybrid silica optical nanofibers for efficient Raman converters
International audienceOver the last twenty years, silica optical nanofibers have been widely exploited for a large range of potential applications in several areas of research such as atomic manipulation, plasmonic or sensing. Indeed, these devices present original properties of light propagation characterized by a high confinement of the optical mode in the uniform part and the presence of a strong evanescent field in the vicinity of the surface. This last property offers a new degree of freedom for the realization of nonlinear effects by changing the surrounding medium. We will firstly illustrate this option by generating Stimulated Raman Scattering with very high conversion efficiencies using nanofibers immersed in different liquids. Secondly, we will investigate the functionalization of nanofibers by coating them with thin layers of nonlinear materials. These studies open the way to the realization of low cost and low-loss in-line devices based on hybrid silica optical nanofibers. Keywords—Optical Nanofiber, Stimulated Raman Scattering, coating, TiO2, PMM
The Scholz-Reichardt Theorem
International audienceThe Scholz-Reichardt theorem states that for any odd prime p, any p-group G is realizable as the Galois group of an extension K of QWe propose to revisit this result in the context of Galois representations (joint work with F. Hajir, M. Larsen and R. Ramakrishna), and of Massey products (joint work with J. Minac, R. Ramakrishna and N.D. Tan)

Pore-fluid pressure pulses from rapid, localized compaction of a porous rock
International audienceChanges in pore fluid pressure are often implicated in producing a range a fault slip behaviour and in the triggering of earthquakes. For fluid pressure increases to influence fault mechanics, either low permeability materials must be present to inhibit fluid loss, or a mechanism for rapid production of pore fluid pressure must operate. In this work, we present observations of rapid generation of pulses of pore fluid pressure, by the unstable propagation of localized low porosity bands formed during compaction of porous rock. We perform a series of high pressure compaction experiments on intact cores of porous beta and alpha bassanite that are hydrostatically loaded at different compaction rates. We find that at hydrostatic loading rates of 0.01 MPa/s, pulses of pore fluid pressure are observed only for alpha-bassanite, associated with expulsion of fluid during the rapid formation of low porosity bands. At slower hydrostatic loading rates (0.01 MPa/s) no pore fluid pulses are observed and compaction proceeds smoothly, despite the development of a similar network of low porosity bands in alpha-bassanite, suggesting that the bands propagate in a slower and more stable fashion at these conditions. We attribute the absence of pore-pressure pulses and low porosity bands in beta-bassanite to differences in bassanite grain size and shape. We conclude that at high hydrostatic loading rates pore fluid pulses are produced during the rapid formation of low porosity bands when stress concentrations at the band tip reach the critical stress intensity factor causing unstable propagation
International audienceGiven the environmental problems posed by food waste, recycling food leftovers in the home is a solution that should be encouraged. Within the framework of the theory of planned behaviour, this study examines the comparative effects of consumers' intrinsic religiosity and eco-spirituality on their intentions to recycle food leftovers in the home. The results of a survey of more than 500 consumers representative of the French population show that eco-spirituality is an important determinant of intentions and declared behaviour to recycle food scraps, via attitudes to the consumption of food scraps and the subjective norm. Contrary to expectations, intrinsic religiosity has no effect on attitude and subjective norm but exerts a slightly negative influence on intentions. Societal recommendations are drawn from these results.

Microscopic and spectroscopic exploration of brewer’s spent grain fermentation by Aspergillus oryzae for kojic acid synthesis
