Middle Palaeolithic bone tools variability: introducing a vast experimental programme
International audienceThe interest in studying bone tools from Middle Palaeolithic has increased in the past decades. Studies have already highlighted the diversity of tools, such as retouched fragments of bones, bevelled tools, or smoothers, in Middle Palaeolithic contexts. ‘Retouchers’ are the most frequently identified and documented tool category. A renewed study of the Biache-SaintVaast (MIS 7, Pas-de-Calais, France) retoucher assemblage enabled the identification of various stigmata that are usually attributed to lithic retouching activities. The variation of which is not yet well understood, in particular with regard to the gestures that may have caused the observed use traces. Consequently, a substantial experimental programme was initiated to enhance comprehension of the chaine opératoire of Biache-Saint-Vaast retouchers, from the extraction of bone fragments during the breakage of long bones up to the use of these fragments. With the help of 8 experimenters, more than 70 bones of Bos taurus were broken, and more than 200 bone and lithic tools were produced, resulting in a robust basis for a reference collection. Various activities were carried out to understand the variability of the stigmata observed on the archaeological bones. Different variables that may impact the formation of stigmata on the bones were explored to evaluate whether gestures could be discriminated (orientation of gesture, scraping of the surface, etc.). The present experimental study highlighted issues concerning commonly used terminologies and recording systems. Our results show that part of the interpretative potential of impact stigmata on bones has remained underexploited and that close attention to patterning is very promising. In future research, the present foundations will be built upon in order to strengthen the methodologies used. This will be achieved by adopting a broader perspective in order to facilitate a more complete understanding of the role of retouchers in Middle Palaeolithic technical systems
International audienceThis article examines international recommendations for the diagnosis and management of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents. It highlights the roles of physicians at various levels of care and introduces the 2024 recommendation from the French High Authority for Health (Haute Autorité de santé [HAS]) to create a formal certification for "ADHD-specialized physicians". These physicians would be qualified to both diagnose ADHD and initiate stimulant prescriptions. The article further outlines a proposed training framework for these specialized physicians in France, detailing the required training hours, educational objectives, and methods for evaluating competencies.

Dissent in Monetary Policy Decisions: Effects, Channels and Implications
We investigate whether dissent in monetary policy committees affect asset prices. We exploit a feature of the ECB communication for identification: the revelation of dissent during press conferences is separated from policy decision announcements. Following a narrative approach, we compute a novel granular index of ECB dissent for each instrument and identify the dissent direction. Using tick data, we isolate asset price changes exactly when dissent is revealed. Dissent has a strong negative effect on stock prices, that operates specifically around status quo decisions. Dissent is a key driver of stock prices on these days, explaining one-third of their variation
Comprehensive analysis of CNOT3-related neurodevelopmental disorders: phenotypic and genotypic characterization
International audienceThe CCR4-NOT complex, crucial in gene expression regulation, includes CNOT3, a subunit linked to neurodevelopmental disorders when mutated. This study investigates 51 patients from 42 families with heterozygous CNOT3 variants, aiming to expand the understanding of CNOT3-related neurodevelopmental disorders and explore genotype-phenotype correlations. Patients originated from various countries, reflecting the disorder's global significance. All patients exhibited developmental delays, particularly in the language area. Intellectual disability was found in 87% of patients and was typically mild to moderate. Behavioral issues, including autism spectrum disorders and attention deficits, were common, affecting over half of the patients. Dysmorphic features were highlighted and may help establishing the diagnosis. Epilepsy was uncommon (10%). Twenty-eight novel variants were identified, including missense, nonsense, frameshift, intronic variations and a deletion of 12 exons. Missense variants clustered at the N- and C-terminal regions of the protein, indicating critical functional roles. No clear genotype-phenotype correlation was observed, suggesting that all identified variants resulted in a loss-of-function effect. Finally, this work delineates the clinical and molecular spectrum of CNOT3-related disorders thanks to an in-depth characterization of a large cohort. Further research will be necessary to understand the functional consequences of the variants and enhance patient long-term outcomes

What a peaty contribution to global warming! An interdisciplinary study of atmospheric and hydrologic carbon fluxes in a temperate peatland in the Jura Mountains, eastern France
International audiencePeatlands, though covering only 3 % of the global land surface, play an active role in the Critical Zone (CZ) by mediating substantial water and carbon exchanges with adjacent aquifers, surface waters, and the atmosphere. These ecosystems provide key services, such as carbon and water storage and local climate regulation, addressing contemporary challenges related to climate change, biodiversity loss, and water resource management. However, peatlands are increasingly threatened by global pressures, including climate change, and local disturbances, such as drainage for agriculture, forestry, and peat extraction. To mitigate these threats, it is essential to understand the hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecological processes governing peatland dynamics across spatiotemporal scales. To explore the factors controlling greenhouse gases sources, production, and transport in peatlands, an interdisciplinary field campaign was conducted at the Frasne peatland (7 ha, 46.826°N, 6.1754°E, 840 m a.s.l.), a long-term observatory since 2008. The site is part of the French CZ research infrastructure (OZCAR) and the long term ecological research site Jurassian Arc, which focuses on the interaction between human and nature. The campaign was supported by the TERRA FORMA project, which develops smart, connected, low-cost, and low-impact environmental sensors to monitor CZ trajectories in the Anthropocene. The fieldwork integrated microbiological analyses of peat material, including membrane lipid profiling to trace microbial metabolisms, combined with detailed hydrogeochemical investigations of peat pore water along lateral flow and depth gradients. Measurements included physicochemical parameters (temperature, electrical conductivity, pH) and major elements, dissolved organic and inorganic carbon (DOC and DIC), CO₂, and CH₄ concentration, as well as their isotopic characterization (δ¹⁸O, δ²H, δ¹³C) . Additionally, greenhouse gases fluxes were quantified at multiple scales, employing methods such as dissolved gas profiling, chamber measurements, eddy covariance, and UAV-based surveys. This multiscale approach aims to tackle critical challenges in peatland research and management, including three-dimensional quantification of carbon fluxes (lateral and vertical) at the ecosystem scale; characterization of hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecological processes that modulate greenhouse gases and dissolved carbon production and transport; and development of accessible and efficient tools for addressing these pressing environmental issues. three-dimensional quantification of carbon fluxes (lateral and vertical) at the ecosystem scale; characterization of hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecological processes that modulate greenhouse gases and dissolved carbon production and transport; and development of accessible and efficient tools for addressing these pressing environmental issues
