Bond graph model of extensor mechanism of finger based on hook-string mechanism
International audienceBiomechanical modeling of a finger is a challenging task especially due to excursion and gliding of tendons along bone geometry, the presence of articular cartilage between mating phalanges, nonlinear viscoelastic properties, load specific change in properties of tendons and complexity of deformable tendinous network (Winslow's rhombus) of the extensor mechanism. In this work, a bond graph model of the extensor mechanism of a finger is developed. Tendons are considered as deformable strings and assumed to pass through hooks fixed at predetermined points on rigid phalanges. This enables them to remain clinging to the phalanx surface while sliding on it, and retain network topology during the movement of phalanges. Word bond graph objects (WBGOs) are developed for dynamics of phalanges, hook–string interaction, normal reaction and frictional forces, and coupling of phalanges in rotation as well as translation, etc. Friction losses and extension of tendons due to applied load are accounted for. Study of motion and tension in tendons, joint variables, location of hooks and characteristics of individual tendons can be conveniently carried out based on the bond graph model. This has been effectively demonstrated through computer simulations
Rules based voltage control for distribution networks combined with TSO-DSO reactive power exchanges limitations,
International audienceThis article deals with the evolution of voltage and reactive power control strategies in distribution networks with distributed generation. First a comprehensive review of voltage control and reactive power management techniques is given. The gap between actual or short-term industrial possibilities of distribution grids and techniques proposed in literature is highlighted. A realistic control based on local rules using the reactive power capabilities of distributed generators, capacitor banks and on load tap changer (OLTC) voltage setpoint is then presented. Its objective is to control both distribution network voltages and reactive power flows at the Transport System Operator (TSO) - Distribution System Operator (DSO) interface. The proposed control allows limiting OLTC bounds and conflicts between local rules. At last, this paper presents simulations results based on French MV distribution network in order to depict the efficiency of such a control
Pruning near-duplicate images for mobile landmark identification: a graph theoretical approach
International audienceAutomatic landmark identification is one of the hot research topics in computer vision domain. Efficient and robust identification of landmark points is a challenging task, especially in a mobile context. This paper addresses the pruning of near- duplicate images for creating representative training image sets to minimize overall query processing complexity and time. We prune different perspectives of real world landmarks to find the smallest set of the most representative images. Inspired from graph theory, we represent each class in a separate graph using geometric verification of well-known RANSAC algorithm. Our iterative method uses maximum coverage information in each iteration to find the minimum representative set to reduce and prioritize the images of the initial dataset. Experiments on Paris dataset show that the proposed method provides robust and accurate results using smaller subsets
Bi-modal Face Recognition - How combining 2D and 3D Clues Can Increase the Precision
International audienceThis paper introduces a bi-modal face recognition approach. The objective is to study how combining depth and intensity information can increase face recognition precision. In the proposed approach, local features based on LBP (Local Binary Pattern) and DLBP (Depth Local Binary Pattern) are extracted from intensity and depth images respectively. Our approach combines the results of classifiers trained on extracted intensity and depth cues in order to identify faces. Experiments are performed on three datasets: Texas 3D face dataset, BOSPHORUS 3D face dataset and FRGC 3D face dataset. The obtained results demonstrate the enhanced performance of the proposed method compared to mono-modal (2D or 3D) face recognition. Most processes of the proposed system are performed automatically. It leads to a potential prototype of face recognition using the latest RGB-D sensors, such as Microsoft Kinect or Intel RealSense 3D Camera

Performing Enhanced Rail Formal Engineering Constraints Traceability: Transition Modes
International audience—As defined in the Council directive of 1996, the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) aims to provide the basic framework to the interoperable rail signaling and train control. Besides, traffic safety depends closely on the analysis, checking and validation of the ERTMS specifications and in the human behavior. These deals are considered on the ANR Project: PERFECT, in which this work fits. Thereby, in this paper it is proposed to use a state model approach to check and validate mode transitions of the ERTMS level 2 specifications. A scenario mode transition example is used to describe the steps of the state model algorithm and to validate it
