    Facial Asymmetry Assessment from 3D Shape Sequences: The Clinical Case of Facial Paralysis

    International audienceThis paper addresses the problem of quantifying the facial asymmetry from dynamic 3D data. We investigate here the role of 4D (i.e. 3D+time) data to reveal the amount of both static and dynamic asymmetry, in a clinical use-case of facial paralysis. The final goal is to provide tools and solutions to clinicians for facial paralysis assessment and monitoring, which can provide qualitative and quantitative evaluations. To this end, the approach proposed here consider 3D facial sequences and adopt a recently-developed Riemannian approach for facial deformation analysis. After a preprocessing step, each frame of a given 3D sequence is approximated by an indexed collection of elastic radial curves. Riemannian shape analysis of obtained curves and their symmetrical counterparts, both elements of the same shape space, give rise to a feature vector, called Dense Scalar Fields (DSFs). The use of these DSFs reveals the amount of bilateral asymmetry of the face, when conveying expressions. That is, given a 3D frame, it is first reflected with respect to the YZ-plane, then compared to the obtained reflection using the DSFs. To exemplify the use of the proposed approach, a new dataset have been collected (of patients) before and after injecting Botulinum Toxin (BT) in related facial muscles. Experimental results obtained on this dataset show that the proposed approach allows clinicians to evaluate the facial asymmetry before and after the medical treatment

    Faster Evaluation of SBoxes via Common Shares

    International audienceWe describe a new technique for improving the efficiency of the masking countermeasure against side-channel attacks. Our technique is based on using common shares between secret variables, in order to reduce the number of finite field multiplications. Our algorithms are proven secure in the ISW probing model with n t + 1 shares against t probes. For AES, we get an equivalent of 2.8 non-linear multiplications for every SBox evaluation, instead of 4 in the Rivain-Prouff countermeasure. We obtain similar improvements for other block-ciphers. Our technique is easy to implement and performs relatively well in practice, with roughly a 20% speed-up compared to existing algorithms

    International audienceDifférents travaux de recherches en sciences humaines et sociales ont permis de déterminer les causes générales des problèmes de parité hommes/femmes dans les emplois des Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication et notamment le poids des représentations sociales et de la méconnaissance des métiers et compétences requises pour les exercer. Le projet de recherche #INSER-NUM souhaite observer et analyser des dispositifs expérimentaux visant à travailler avec les lycéennes, les étudiantes, les femmes en insertion et les acteurs éducatifs et économiques sur cette question. L’élaboration de ces dispositifs se nourrira des analyses des représentations sociales véhiculées par les médias “grand public” et les supports de communication spécialisés, ainsi que d’une étude sur la place des femmes dans les formations et entreprises de la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais

    SMART SECURITY MANAGEMENT IN SECURE DEVICES

    International audienceAmong other threats, secure components are subjected tophysical attacks whose aim is to recover the secret information theystore. Most of the work carried out to protect these components generally consists in developing protections (or countermeasures) taken one byone. But this “countermeasure-centered” approach drastically decreasesthe performance of the chip in terms of power, speed and availability.In order to overcome this limitation, we propose a complementary approach: smart dynamic management of the whole set of countermeasuresembedded in the component. Three main specifications for such management are required in a real world application (for example, a conditionalaccess system for Pay-TV): it has to provide capabilities for the chip todistinguish between attacks and normal use cases (without the help of ahuman being and in a robust but versatile way); it also has to be basedon mechanisms which dynamically find a trade-off between security andperformance; all these mecanisms have to formalized in a way which isclearly understandable by the designer. In this article, a prototype whichenables such security management is described. The solution is based ona double-processor architecture: one processor embeds a representativeset of countermeasures (and mechanisms to define their parameters) andexecutes the application code. The second processor, on the same chip,applies a given security strategy, but without requesting sensitive datafrom the first processor. The chosen strategy is based on fuzzy logic reasoning to enable the designer to describe, using a fairly simple formalism,both the attack paths and the normal use cases. A proof of concept hasbeen proposed for the smart card part of a conditional access for Pay-TV,but it could easily be fine-tuned for other applications
