    International audienceCe regroupement de doctorants spécialistes de différentes langues, autour de réflexions actuellement en cours dans plusieurs communautés de linguistes, s’inscrit ainsi dans le prolongement de la logique de coopération plus large déjà amorcée au niveau national par des chercheurs confirmés via, en particulier, le groupe SAISIE (Signifiant – Analogie –Interlocution – Sémiogénèse – Incarnation – Enaction) mis en place à l’initiative de Ph. Monneret et D. Bottineau.Dans cette perspective, le laboratoire junior se veut un espace d’échange et d’expérimentation des théories linguistiques centrées sur l’expérience du signifiant, ou sur le signifiant comme expérience, dans sa dimension incarnée et sociale. Il s’agit de créer une dynamique collective permettant d’offrir aux doctorants travaillant sur le signifiant – lexicalou grammatical, en particulier dans sa dimension submorphémique mais aussi syntaxique et prosodique, dans quelque langue que ce soit – un espace de rencontres avec doctorants et chercheurs confirmés sur le sujet, des temps d’échange et des opportunités de présentation et de confrontation de leurs travaux sous forme de communications en séminaire et journées d’étude et de publication finale

    Finding the Minimum Perceivable Size of a Tactile Element on an Ultrasonic Based Haptic Tablet

    International audienceTactile devices with ultrasonic vibrations (based on squeeze film effect) using piezoelectric actuators are one of the existing haptic feedback technologies. In this study we have performed two psychophysical experiments on an ultrasonic haptic tablet, in order to find the minimum size of a tactile element on which all the users are able to perfectly identify different types of textures. Our results show that the spatial resolution of the tactile element on haptic touchscreen actually varies, depending on the number and types of tactile feedback information. A first experiment exhibits three different tactile textures, chosen as being easily recognized by users. We use these textures in a second experiment, and evaluate minimal spatial area on which the chosen set of textures can be recognized. Among other, we find the minimal size depends on the texture nature

    Talaria: Continuous Drag & Drop on a Wall Display

    International audienceWe present an interaction technique combining tactile actions and Midair pointing to access out-of-reach content on large displays without the need to walk across the display. Users can start through a Touch gesture on the display surface and finish Midair by pointing to push content away or inversely to retrieve a content. The technique takes advantage of wellknown semantics of pointing in human-to-human interaction.These, coupled with the semantics of proximal relations and deictic proxemics make the proposed technique very powerful as it leverages on well-understood human-human interaction modalities. Experimental results show this technique to outperform direct tactile interaction on dragging tasks. From our experience we derive four guidelines for interaction with large-scale displays

    Learning Discriminative Tree Edit Similarities for Linear Classification - Application to Melody Recognition

    International audienceSimilarity functions are a fundamental component of many learning algorithms. When dealing with string or tree-structured data, measures based on the edit distance are widely used, and there exist a few methods for learning them from data. In this context, we recently proposed GESL [3], an approach to string edit similarity learning based on loss minimization which offers theoretical guarantees as to the generalization ability and discriminative power of the learned similarities. In this paper, we argue that GESL, which has been originally dedicated to deal with strings, can be extended to trees and lead to powerful and competitive similarities. We illustrate this claim on a music recognition task, namely melody classification, where each piece is represented as a tree modeling its structure as well as rhythm and pitch information. The results show that GESL outperforms standard as well as probabilistically-learned edit distances, and that it is able to describe consistently the underlying melodic similarity model

    International audienceL'importance de la dynamique faciale pour la reconnaissance d'expressions spontanées a été prouvée dans l'iden-tification subtile des déformations physiques du visage. Les approches courantes de reconnaissance d'expressions fa-ciales sont performantes sur des datasets où l'environne-ment est contrôlé et les expressions sont actées. Cepen-dant, ces datasets ne reflètent pas les conditions rencon-trées dans une situation d'interaction naturelle où la per-sonne est libre de ses mouvements. Dans ces contextes, la présence de variations de pose et de larges déplacements rend l'analyse difficile. Cet article présente une synthèse originale des solutions de normalisation et d'extraction de mouvements du visage en présence d'expressions sponta-nées et propose d'étudier l'impact de ces méthodes de nor-malisation sur la dynamique faciale

    Are users better-off with new transit lines?

    This paper studies the entry of new competitors in public transport like long distance busses that compete with rail. A stylized model is used that analyzes the addition of a new more direct line in an existing network. We show that the introduction of the new line is only beneficial if there are relatively many users that want to use the new direct line. Our result raises serious concerns with respect to the decentralized management of transit systems
