Software Product Lines for Multi-Cloud Microservices Configuration
National audienceMulti-cloud computing [2] and microservices architecture [1] are current trends in the development of cloud applications. Multiple clouds can be used to reduce provider dependence, comply with constraints and regulations, or optimize costs and quality of service. Microservices architecture improves resource usage and scalability by decomposing applications into small highly decoupled services that may be developed, deployed and scaled independently. However, setting up a multi-cloud environment to deploy and run these applications is very complex. Developers must consider the many different available cloud providers' offers to select a set of providers, and configure them accordingly to deploy each of the application services. Microservices may be developed by different teams, using different technologies, and therefore may require different features from cloud providers. Moreover, as the cloud market evolves, providers' features may be introduced or retired, requiring configuration changes. Taking all these factors into account to setup a multi-cloud environment to deploy and run a microservices application is an error-prone and time consuming task, which calls for supporting tools. In this workshop, we will present our approach to automate the setup of multi-cloud environments [4]. Our approach employs software product lines [3] principles and ontology reasoning to get from a high-level description of multi-cloud requirements to a selection of cloud providers and their configurations. In addition, we will highlight current challenges and ongoing work to build self-adaptive multi-cloud environments, capable of identifying optimization opportunities as application requirements and cloud market evolve

Algorithms for Differentially Private Multi-Armed Bandits
International audienceWe present differentially private algorithms for the stochastic Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) problem. This is a problem for applications such as adaptive clinical trials, experiment design, and user-targeted advertising where private information is connected to individual rewards. Our major contribution is to show that there exist differentially private variants of Upper Confidence Bound algorithms which have optimal regret, . This is a significant improvement over previous results, which only achieve poly-log regret , because of our use of a novel interval-based mechanism. We also substantially improve the bounds of previous family of algorithms which use a continual release mechanism. Experiments clearly validate our theoretical bounds

Generation and distribution of the total factor productivity gains in US industries
International audienceThis study estimates productivity gains and their distribution among inputs and outputs for 63 American industries over the period 1987–2012. Using the traditional surplus accounting method, the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth rates are divided into their price change components in order to determine the stakeholders who do or do not receive price advantages. An initial analysis showed that TFP of US industries increased at an average trend of 0.8% and established that remunerations to employees and firms’ profitability constituted 49% and 39%, respectively, of the accumulated economic surplus from the productivity gains. Suppliers of intermediate inputs retained 12.1% of the surplus. Finally, customers, equipment and structure providers were the losers in the distribution of economic surplus via, respectively, a significant growth of relative final demand prices and a substantial price decrease of these assets. A second step analysis underlined that industries with high TFP growth rates mainly benefited customers and firms via output price decreases and profitability improvements while industries with low or negative TFP changes hurt customers through significant output price increases. The sectoral level analysis also showed that employees’ remunerations depend only slightly on productivity gains produced within their industrial sectors
Attitude face au risque et décision de récolte des propriétaires forestiers privés français
International audienceFrance has decided to increase its wood harvests in forests by roughly 21 million cubic meters by 2020. Since three-quarters of French forests are privately owned, it is essential to be aware of what determines harves-ting decisions by private forest owners if this goal is to be achieved. In particular, in a context where the risks associated with forest management are increasing, owners’ preferences in the face of risk could play a decisive role in their decision to harvest or not. We use survey data on the one hand to identify the deter-mining factors in harvesting decisions by French private forest owners and on the other to evaluate their pre-ferences vis-à-vis risks. Our main results show that French private forest owners tend, on average, to have an aversion for risk and that this aversion increases the probability of harvesting.La France a décidé d’augmenter la récolte de bois dans ses forêts d’environ 21 millions de mètres cubes à l’horizon 2020. La forêt française étant aux trois quarts privée, la connaissance des déterminants de la déci-sion de récolte des propriétaires forestiers privés semble essentielle pour atteindre cet objectif de récolte. En particulier, dans un contexte où les risques associés à la gestion forestière s’accroissent, les préférences des propriétaires face au risque peuvent jouer un rôle décisif dans leur choix ou non de récolter. Nous utilisons des données d’enquête afin d’une part d’identifier les déterminants de la décision de récolte des proprié-taires forestiers privés français, et d’autre part d’évaluer leurs préférences face au risque. Nos principaux résul-tats montrent que les propriétaires forestiers privés français présentent, en moyenne, de l’aversion pour le risque, et que cette aversion accroît la probabilité de récolte
