    When should internal interfaces be promoted to public?

    International audienceCommonly, software systems have public (and stable) interfaces, and internal (and possibly unstable) interfaces. Despite being discouraged, client developers often use internal interfaces, which may cause their systems to fail when they evolve. To overcome this problem, API producers may promote internal interfaces to public. In practice, however, API producers have no assistance to identify public interface candidates. In this paper, we study the transition from internal to public interfaces. We aim to help API producers to deliver a better product and API clients to benefit sooner from public interfaces. Our empirical investigation on five widely adopted Java systems present the following observations. First, we identified 195 promotions from 2,722 internal interfaces. Second, we found that promoted internal interfaces have more clients. Third, we predicted internal interface promotion with precision between 50%-80%, recall 26%-82%, and AUC 74%-85%. Finally, by applying our predictor on the last version of the analyzed systems, we automatically detected 382 public interface candidates

    Stabilization of LTI systems by relay feedback with perturbed measurements

    International audienceThis paper investigates the stabilization of Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems by relay feedback. Generally the states measurements are subject to perturbations and noises. However, their effect is often ignored in the design of relay feedback. Here a state-dependent switching law isdesigned in a robust manner, while taking into account the perturbed states. The stability analysis of the closed loop system leads to qualitative conditions. Then, an LMI reformulation of the stability conditions is proposed to allow a numerical implementation of the results. Computer simulations show the efficiency of the developed method over a numerical example

    Novel Generative Model for Facial Expressions Based on Statistical Shape Analysis of Landmarks Trajectories

    International audienceWe propose a novel geometric framework for analyzing spontaneous facial expressions, with the specific goal of comparing, matching, and averaging the shapes of landmarks trajectories. Here we represent facial expressions by the motion of the landmarks across the time. The trajectories are represented by curves. We use elastic shape analysis of these curves to develop a Riemannian framework for analyzing shapes of these trajectories. In terms of empirical evaluation, our results on two databases: UvA-NEMO and Cohn-Kanade CK+ are very promising. From a theoretical perspective, this framework allows formal statistical inferences, such as generation of facial expressions

    International audienceNous nous proposons d’analyser la cartographie les identités des groupes sociaux mis en scène dans la médiatisation de quatre mouvements féministes nés dans les années 2000 et qui bénéficient d’une couverture presse plus ou moins importante et valorisante : la Barbe, Femen, Ni putes ni soumises et Osez le Féminisme ! Nous verrons que cette cartographie rend compte d’un processus d’ethnoracialisation du sexisme dans la sphère publique : le récit médiatique du féminisme met en effet en scène des coupables et victimes des rapports sociaux de genre comme étant non-blancs et associés à une zone géographique qui se voit différenciée du territoire français
