    Get PDF
This paper explores the Accounting Information Systems (AIS) competencies for record-keeping in SMEs' agribusiness by looking at the literature review with competencies and SME studies. Previous studies on AIS competencies are still limited, even though they are crucial for effective record-keeping and business performance. This paper aims to propose an AIS competencies model for effective record-keeping management in SME agribusinesses in Malaysia. This paper reviews the literature about competencies and record-keeping management in SMEs for the development of the AIS competency model. In addition, underpinned by Resource-Based View (RBV) theory, this paper examines the competencies that are seen as a collection of unique resources for an organization. The proposed model sheds some light on the potential of AIS competencies as a part of an organization’s intangible resources, which could contribute to effective record-keeping management, lead to better business performance. The model identifies key competencies required for effective AIS record-keeping in the agriculture sector. The scope of this research is narrowed to competencies and record-keeping management. This paper has some useful implications for theory and practice. Regarding the potential implications for theory, the study will expand on the existing literature on how AIS competencies actually could contribute to effective record-keeping, particularly in the agriculture sector. Finally, this research provides a model that could be further expanded into an advanced understanding of a concept or phenomenon specifically on AIS competencies and record-keeping management in agribusiness, thus helping agribusiness entrepreneurs to consider improving their record-keeping practices

In Malaysia, these restaurants serve as valuable spaces for tourists to engage with the multicultural landscape. This study aims to understand the motivations driving international tourists to dine at Malaysian ethnic restaurants and to explore their dining experiences. A qualitative approach was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with 15 international tourists in key tourist areas. Data were recorded, coded, and analyzed through thematic analysis to gain insight into these tourists’ experiences and perceptions. Findings reveal that tourists are primarily motivated by a desire to explore new flavors, cultural authenticity, economic considerations, and the influence of social and digital recommendations. The study further identifies elements that shape dining experiences, including taste preferences, educational aspects within the restaurant, entertainment, cultural immersion, and post-dining reflections. These sensory and social components create a comprehensive, immersive experience that enhances satisfaction and influences tourists’ intent to revisit and recommend ethnic dining venues. This study provides insights for restaurant owners and tourism stakeholders, underscoring the value of authentic decor, diverse menu options, and culturally resonant symbols that enrich the dining environment. By understanding the factors that drive tourist satisfaction, restaurants can refine their offerings to meet tourists’ expectations, fostering deeper cultural connections and contributing to Malaysia’s identity as a culturally rich tourist destination. Get PDF
The halal food control system in Malaysia involves multiple stakeholders whose roles are critical in ensuring food complies with Islamic dietary laws. However, challenges such as fragmented coordination, inconsistent implementation, and limited stakeholder integration hinder its effectiveness. This review aims to identify and analyze stakeholder-related factors that facilitate the success of the halal food control system in Malaysia. This study adopts a systematic literature review approach by identifying relevant publications from 2018 to 2023 across major academic databases. Articles were filtered based on titles, abstracts, and relevance to stakeholder-related factors. A total of 938 articles were reviewed to construct a thematic discussion. This paper identifies six main stakeholder-related factors that may facilitate the success of Malaysia's halal food control system: halal knowledge, assurance factors, organizational environmental factors, management and strategies, technology and tools, as well as consumer feedback and handling. This paper contributes new knowledge by synthesizing fragmented literature into a comprehensive thematic framework grounded in stakeholder theory. It offers theoretical insights and serves as a reference for researchers, policymakers, and halal industry players seeking to understand and strengthen stakeholder roles in halal governance. The findings provide practical guidance for improving policy, governance, and strategic collaboration in halal food control. However, the review is limited to the food sector and relies solely on secondary data. Future research needs to expand beyond the perspectives discussed in the paper to other halal industries, involve comparison across countries, time span, and different databases

The Effect of Board Diversity on Firm Performance: A Conceptual Exploration through Human Capital Theory

    No full text
A crucial element of corporate governance that could affect organizational results and strategic decision-making is board diversity. The diversity of human capital has been recognized as important in ensuring corporate governance effectiveness. Finding opportunities, coming up with ideas, and overcoming blind spots are all made easier for a company and CEO when a diverse group of directors contributes a range of skills, knowledge, and information. The Human Capital Theory explains the value of individual attributes, where individuals from different backgrounds possess unique knowledge and abilities that contribute to productivity. Despite the growing interest in this topic, empirical findings remain inconsistent, calling for more conceptual exploration. The purpose of this conceptual paper is to explore the effect of board diversity on firm performance by examining relationships through the Human Capital Theory. Specifically, this paper examines how diverse boards could contribute to firm value and the quality of governance. This paper also highlights the different outcomes in existing literature on these issues and proposes direction for future research. Through the lens of the Human Capital Theory, this paper identifies diversity as a strategic asset, where a variety of professional experience, educational backgrounds, and demographic profiles support innovative capacity, board-level decision-making, and the caliber of oversight

Insuring Where the Heart Is: Key Drivers Influencing Houseowner and Householder Insurance Adoption in Puncak Alam, Selangor

    Get PDF
The increasing frequency of climate-related disasters such as floods, fires, and extreme weather events in Malaysia has amplified the urgency for adequate home protection. However, underinsurance remains a critical issue, with less than half of Malaysian households holding fire or home insurance policies. This leaves millions, especially in high-risk areas like Puncak Alam, Selangor, exposed to financial vulnerability. This study investigates the key drivers influencing homeowners’ intentions to purchase Houseowner and household insurance, focusing on awareness, perceived adequacy of product coverage, and household income. Guided by Protection Motivation Theory and consumer behavior principles, the study employed a quantitative research design. A structured survey was distributed to 100 property owners using convenience sampling. Descriptive and Pearson correlation analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between the independent variables and purchase intention. Findings indicate that awareness, product coverage, and income are all significantly and positively associated with purchasing insurance. Respondents with a better understanding of policy coverage and greater financial capacity were more likely to consider insurance as a critical part of their financial planning. However, response variation indicates continued gaps in product understanding and cost accessibility, particularly for extended coverage. The study recommends that insurers develop clearer communication strategies and educational outreach to address these gaps. Policymakers are also urged to consider initiatives such as subsidies or mandatory minimum coverage to improve insurance accessibility for vulnerable groups. Ultimately, property insurance must be recognized as an essential pillar of personal resilience and national disaster preparedness
