A POISSON-AKASH INRAR(1) MODEL FOR OVER DISPERSED COUNT TIME SERIES

    Get PDF
In this paper, a Poisson-Akash INAR(1) model was proposed in order to improve on the modelling of overdispersed stationary count time series. The estimators of the parameters of the model were derived using the Yule-Walker (YW) method and the conditional least squares (CLS) method. An expression for the conditional log-likelihood and the r-step ahead forecast were obtained for the model. Three overdispersed nonseasonal stationary count time series were modelled to illustrate the applicability of the proposed model as well as its capacity to outperform the competing INAR (1) models in modelling overdispersed stationary count time series and the result showed that the proposed model is a strong competitor in the analysis of overdispersed stationary count time series and can perform better than the competing INAR(1) models for some data sets

    Get PDF
Enterococcus faecalis is the most common bacteria isolated in conventional endodontic retreatments. Aim: To compare the impact of three irrigation modalities on the elimination of the isolated microbial strains of Enterococcus faecalis. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients requiring conventional endodontic retreatment for one of their mandibular premolars and tested positive for E. faecalis were chosen. Patients were randomly divided into three groups (n=10) according to the irrigation modality to be used; group I: syringe irrigation (NaOCl 2.625%), group II: NaOCl 2.625%+EndoActivator and group III: NaOCl 2.625%+diode laser. Before obturation, samples S2 were collected and PCR analysis was performed to identify the persistence of E. faecalis post- irrigation. Fisher exact test was used for differences in proportion between the three irrigation modalities. Analysis was achieved at the 0.05 significance level. Results: A significant statistical difference was revealed between group I and each of groups II and III whereas the statistical difference between groups II and III was not significant. Conclusion: Agitation with EndoActivator or activation with diode laser are necessary for a better eradication of E. faecalis in conventional endodontic retreatments

The higher education sector in Lebanon faces a number of challenges due to its rapid expansion, which has had many implications for the development of the sector. However, each university competes for a limited resources. Thus, promoting the image of the university becomes an essential factor for survival. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between service quality and corporate image with customer satisfaction as an intermediary in private universities in Lebanon. A survey of 378 respondents was conducted. A judgmental sample of university students was selected. The framework was tested by structural equation modeling (SEM). The results show that the service quality influences both customer satisfaction and the image of the company. In addition, customer satisfaction is partially involved in the relationship between service quality and corporate image . This study suggested that marketers should focus on service quality and customer satisfaction to strengthen the corporate image when adopting their strategies at private universities in Lebanon

POWER OF CANTILEVER DESIGN IN THE CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

    Get PDF
Cantilever is a structural form that extends horizontally and is supported by one end and free on the other while the load is distributed equally, initiated by the use of bridges and balconies in the buildings. The power of Cantilevers with its different designs is spreading throughout the world via various perspectives since it increases the ability of design creativity and gives proper solutions. However, from that point forward, a research gap that has been found missing relating the structural challenges and how it affects the design and the decisions taken by the clients/ owners paying budgets on such type of structural additions that may not achieve the 100% building safety. Lack of knowing the proper building technologies may lead to reduce limits of innovation, that resulted in building repetitive traditional prototype without remarkable decisions. This paper therefore aims to detect the new building technologies that enable architects to design a cantilever in their projects, helping the design and the load carrying problems and highlight the exceptional designs that challenges the attractive force and establish a flying structure. In order to achieve the mentioned aim, the paper will start presenting a literature review based on a desk research theories and methods of construction were used to clearly explains our topic “the power of cantilevers in contemporary arch.” Supported with diverse analysis of Frank Lloyd Wright, Zaha Hadid, and Knight Architects

REFLECTIONS OF ARABIC LITERATURE ON ARCHITECTURAL REPRESENTATION

    Get PDF
Literature and architecture have long been connected where both are forms of art; literature is a verbal form of art whereas architecture takes a social form. Both domains play a major role in heritage inheritance and representation and are immensely linked to each other; each is capable of representing and embodying the other. Gloomily, in light of digital technology, Information Age, and onslaught of globalization, the reflections of the practices of Arabic literature on architectural representations, after being practiced together since ancient periods, have retracted in recent times thus architecture in the Arab cities has started to veer far away from reflecting the Arab heritage. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is primarily to propose a number of approaches that enhance the amalgamation of both domains in order to nourish the cultural heritage through such notions and to introduce the Arabic culture to different types of users directly and indirectly. To achieve this aim, the research follows a scientific methodology that relies on deskwork, literature review, and observations making it a qualitative type of work. The research highlights previous readings that analyse the relationship between Arabic literature and architecture and then tackles the methods of reflections of literature in architectural representations. After that, recently executed case studies will be investigated in the paper which are Quranic Park by OBE Architects in Dubai, UAE and Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies by Mangera Yvars Architects in Doha, Qatar. Finally, a field survey is carried out for the purpose of gathering further information. In conclusion, several design approaches were conducted to employ the reflections of Arabic literature in architectural representations in order to achieve the previously mentioned aim

KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND PRACTICE TOWARDS ANTIBIOTIC USE AMONG LEBANESE HEALTH PROFESSIONS STUDENTS: A MULTICENTRE CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

    Get PDF
Antibiotic resistance poses a great threat to the public health at a global scale. This resistance has emerged due to the misuse and overuse of antibiotics, especially in countries where antibiotics are dispensed without a prescription. The aim of this study was to evaluate knowledge, behavior and practice towards antibiotics among medical students in universities. The study is a cross sectional survey using questionnaire. Data were collected from a random sample of 226 students of two faculties pharmacy and health sciences. Results showed good knowledge of participants since 87.6% had more than 50% correct answers. 47% of physicians prescribe antibiotics to treat common cold and 46% of physicians prescribe antibiotics over the phone without examining the patient. Awareness campaigns should be launched among the general public as well as healthcare professionals aiming at raising awareness regarding antibiotic misuse and resistance

CREATING A HEALTHY SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT TO MAINTAIN BAHRAINI WOMEN\u27 RIGHTS

The idea of having a Healthy, Sustainable Environment is a challenge for designers while they think about creating such an urban complex. Designing a resort that gathers, supports, entertains, treats, educates and empowers women mainly adds more challenging. The performance of women in life gives them dual responsibility and efforts in both fields. As well know that women are an essential figure in Arab societies due to their power and potentiality to improve the quality in all fields around the world. Nevertheless, some women were suffering from harsh environments and violence in which they need a place for consultant and therapy. A place that can feel secured and with privacy while having relaxing time. Therefore, the Ladies Eco-Beach complex aims to create a healthy, sustainable environment to release all the stresses and pressures undertaken through the daily routine. Creating a Healthy Sustainable Environment (HSE) is needed for women as gender in Bahrain in different benefits that positively impact Islamic cultural value. Moreover, this idea of having HSE will support the ecological systems and sustainable solutions in Bahrain, which will change the perspective to use water frontage and comply with Bahrain Vision 2030

The Mediterranean diet (MD) is a model of a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle. Adherence to the MD has been correlated with a reduction in many metabolic disorders including cancers. The factors associated with adolescents’ adherence to the MD in North Lebanon using the KIDMED index have never been explored. The objective of this study was to examine the factors associated with the Mediterranean diet (MD) adherence among a sample of Lebanese adolescents. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in the city of Tripoli, North Lebanon. A total of 298 students, aged 11-18 years, were randomly selected from public schools in the area. All participants completed a questionnaire on the Mediterranean diet (KIDMED index), physical activity (physical activity questionnaires for older children [PAQ-C] and adolescents [PAQ-A]), health-related quality of life (KIDSCREEN-27 index), and sociodemographic characteristics (age, gender, grade level, and parents’ educational status). The questionnaire was followed by anthropometric measurements. Adherence to the MD was good among only 13.4% of the adolescents. The prevalence rate of overweight and obesity was elevated reaching 36.9% of the students. Lower adherence to the MD was significantly correlated with skipping meals (P=0.004) and consuming fewer meals with the family (
