THE FRAMEWORK FOR EVALUATING CHILDREN’S WELLBEING AS RELATED TO THEIR ACTIVE SCHOOL TRAVELING (AST)
Investigating wellbeing-related concerns nowadays is greater than ever. This extends to all aspects of human beings’ daily life. In this context, children’s wellbeing is having an increasing interest as they are the core constituents of tomorrow’s world. Studies have affirmed the vital role of children’s physical activities as catalysts for all domains of their wellbeing. Active school traveling is one of these daily activities practiced by children frequently. The way it is practiced, and its interrelated activities are profoundly affecting children’s feeling and accordingly their well-being. However, the paper builds an argument about conceptualizing an applicable understanding of wellbeing. Reviewing several approaches, it exploits the capabilities approach to investigate the correlation between children’s active school traveling and their wellbeing. Using the outlines of children’s mobility framework, a set of domains were concluded within three categories specifying the children\u27s movement from home to school and vice versa, and the fourth one is a general category. Two questionnaires are used to validate the paper’s theoretical approach. They were performed to a sample of two schools in Alexandria, Egypt targeting both students and their parents. The paper findings show the positive attitude of parents towards active school traveling as a means for conveying their children’s wellbeing. The results show the validity of applying resources/challenges balancing approach for understanding wellbeing obstacles while active school traveling is practiced. However, the results concluded in this paper can inform future studies by drawing attention to aspects to contemplate while investigating children’s wellbeing and mobility domain
GENUS MELALEUCA: PHYTOCHEMISTRY, PHARMACOLOGY AND EFFECT AGAINST COVID-19
Medicinal plants are used for the prevention and treatment of many diseases as they are rich in phytochemical constituents (like terpenes, flavonoids, and alkaloids) responsible for the pharmacological effects of these plants. Genus Melaleuca named the tea tree, belonging to the family Myrtaceae, is cultivated in Australia as well as in the Pacific and some regions of Asia. It has been employed in Australian traditional medicine for its broad antimicrobial activity because of its contents of phenolic compounds, monoterpenes, tannins, flavonoids, sesquiterpenes, and essential oils. Owing to the valuable uses of plants of genus Melaleuca, for different medical purposes, it was deemed interest to summarize the previous studies reported from 2004 to 2020 in the available literature about the phytochemistry and pharmacological potential of both volatile and non-volatile components of Melaleuca species. Accordingly, this article may help researchers work on plants of genus Melaleuca to promote clinical applications towards the development of novel drugs of diverse pharmacological activities, including inhibitory effects on COVID 19 obtained from Melaleuca species

FACTORS AFFECTING ACCOUNTING STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE AT UNIVERSITY IN LEBANON
Factors affecting students\u27 performance (SP) have been the topic of continuing discussion among academics, instructors, and policy - makers. There have been several research that tried to investigate this subject; however; most of those research have concentrated on SP in America and Europe. Though, since cultural dissimilarities might have a function in determining the factors that influence SP, it is extremely vital to investigate those factors to the Lebanese society. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors affecting accounting SP at the faculty of business administration at Beirut Arab University (BAU) in Lebanon. To achieve this, a questionnaire was administered and distributed to 232 second and third-year accounting students. The regression results reveal that the factors of gender, language, class attendance, part time work, statistics grade and introductory accounting grade are significantly and positively related to SP in accounting. Results also show that extracurricular activity, high school grades and age have negative significant influence on SP. Results also demonstrated that mathematics grade, high school accounting, high school major, studying hours, nationality, student interest in accounting field, marital status, class size, course load and instructor effectiveness are not significantly associated with SP in accounting. These findings offer a significant contribution to accounting literature and have imperative implications for accounting students, university administrators and accounting instructors
THE IMPACT OF ECONOMIC GROWTH AND INFLATION ON YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT: EMPIRICAL STUDY IN ESCWA REGION
High unemployment particularly among youth is a serious burden for economy. There are many causes behind the high unemployment in the Escwa region, which differ from one country to another. Governments policies aim to solve this problem by creating new jobs symmetric with the sustainability of economic growth. These policies usually aim to increase growth rates and not to reduce unemployment. Inflation is another factor that has influence on unemployment rate, therefore economic growth and inflation are two factors that have impact on unemployment. Youth are the most affected group due to many reasons, the most important is the employment production act applied by within countries. For this purpose, this study investigates the influence of economic growth and inflation on youth unemployment in 16 countries belonging to the ESCWA region for the period 1991-2017. Pedroni Residual Cointegration Test statistic showed that there was no relationship between young unemployment, inflation and economic growth in ESWA’S economies. So, it can be clearly said that the series were not moving together for the long-term period. Furthermore, in this context, the results of Dumitrescu-Hurlin (2012) panel Granger causality test indicated that there is no causality relationship between youth unemployment and economic growth as well between inflation and economic growth. While a unidirectional causality moved from inflation to youth unemployment to inflation
PRODUCTION OF LOW-COST SELF-CONSOLIDATING CONCRETE (SCC) USING MANUFACTURED AGGREGATES
Limitations to the sources of aggregates and the unavailability of sand is becoming a problematic issue for concrete production. A novel technology of manufactured aggregates can produce well graded round aggregates that can substitute natural aggregates while maintaining the same characteristics needed and preserving the resources. Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) using manufactured aggregates is assessed in this experimental work to understand the variability of workability properties and mechanical properties with the changes in w/c ratio and percentages of Coarse Aggregates and Manufactured Sand to Natural Sand in order to choose the best mixture that satisfies an adequate overall performance. Targeting compressive strength improvement, the SCC mixes included the use of Silica Fume (SF) and Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer which exhibited a strength improvement when compared to normal SCC. After performing 6 different trial mixtures, the use of manufactured rounded aggregates of percentages 73% from total fine aggregates proportion, 2.7% of Polycarboxylate superplasticizer, and around 8% Silica Fume (SF) from total cementitious materials can succeed in reaching high strength concrete with optimum mechanical properties and a noticeable workability improvement when compared to natural aggregates
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES RELATING TO OFFSHORE PETROLEUM INSTALLATIONS -AN INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE-
Petroleum is the main problem of marine pollution, as it can cause physical, biological and chemical changes to the sea. Pollution of the marine environment resulting from seabed activities is one of the main threats to this environment due to the use of offshore petroleum installations. This pollution can occur as a result of drilling operations, accidental drainage, burning and drilling mud operations, as well as explosions that may occur in oil wells. Petroleum pollution has directly affected fish, birds, mammals, marine bacteria and other living marine resources. Despite that, oil and gas from offshore oil fields still dominate in order to supply the world\u27s energy needs. The international legal bases followed in the issue of marine oil pollution related to the offshore facility play a role in addressing the legal gap inherent in the concluded agreements. The agreements at the international and regional levels seek to establish a legal and regulatory framework to limit pollution from oil platforms, in addition to holding countries accountable internationally and civilly as a result of this pollution resulting from the marine facility located within their territorial waters
FORCED ALIENATION AND THE CHALLENGES OF SURVIVAL IN THE POETRY OF “MAHMOUD DARWISH”
“If only time would return one day”. A beautiful expression that we hear very often in all Arab countries, it carries a lot of meanings, some of which are beautiful, and some are stressful and tiring for the soul; because of the painful memories it contains.
Alienation is a conscious person’s awareness of his need for a homeland, even when he is in the country in which he was born and grew up loving it, because this homeland has changed so much that it is no longer possible to be comfortable about it. Usually, this alienation occurs when the homeland becomes a dwelling for dark brute thinking, or a place in which ignorance grows like the moss climbing the walls of old homes. On the other hand, expatriation is the person’s feeling of nostalgy to his country after emigrating because of need or suppression, while holding the country’s image in the form of beautiful reminiscences in his imagination, or childish love stories, or sweet bitter memories that cannot be forgotten whenever alienation and expatriation are both congregated within one person. This is when the considered person felt alienation in his own homeland before his departure, and then felt nostalgic to his homeland after emigration; this new feeling becomes an unstable psychological state that lingers in a constant life of wandering in place and time, searching for another homeland.
The feeling of alienation creates the most severe and agonizing human feelings, because it is produced by economic, political, social and cultural circumstances that surround humans, and cause the collapse of social relationships and shaking of relation with the person’s own self, or between him and others, or society. It is the actual schizophrenia, the intrapersonal breakdown from self, the resentment and complaining, as well as isolation and hostility. It is different than expatriation that is caused by travelling or emigrating a country to another for personal reasons, related to economy, education, work or pursuing knowledge and expertise. Expatriation by travelling or emigration might be a personal escape from pressures caused by circumstances or political, economic, religious and social conflicts in our countries, but it remains a personal decision, a choice that anyone can voluntarily pick, and it is different that alienation discussed here, even though both cases are somehow interlocking in some causes within the general scenes of our Arab countries and its despicable reality
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SCHOOL ARCHITECTURE AND SELF-EFFICACY OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS IN SOME SCHOOLS IN LEBANON - THE RECIPROCAL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN METHOD
This study sought to develop a new architectural design methodology for educational facilities. The design factors of inclusive schools built environment affect the self-efficacy of students with special needs. Self-efficacy being defined by Albert Bandura as one\u27s belief in one\u27s ability to succeed completing specific tasks in a certain environmental action. This research is conducted by following the sequential explanatory research design, surveyed by a mixed method. Participants were a group of 35 special education teachers and 25 students with special needs, conveniently selected from some schools in Lebanon. The two questionnaires and the individual interviews administered by the researcher formed the outcome of the study. Findings ascertain the importance of suitable school architecture, for the sake of increasing the self-efficacy of students with special needs in order to enhance special education standards in Lebanese schools. The Reciprocal Method is a new deterministic design framework in architecture that seeks for innovative design in educational facilities in direction of universal standards
DEVELOPING AN AGENT-BASED MODEL OF PEDESTRIAN WAYFINDING TO CONDUCT THE BEST TOURISTIC PATH IN HISTORIC DISTRICTS
A historic district is a historic and cultural conservation area that reflects traditional aspects from the past. A sense of memorable pathway allows pedestrian to experience the city happily and attract touristic activity in urban historic districts. The characteristics of touristic districts which facilitate pedestrian movement help in determining the optimum track. The aim of the research is to create an agent-based model (ABM) to simulate the activity of pedestrians in historic districts in order to way find the best touristic paths. Using Space-Syntax, a simulation of the interaction of tourists with the attraction points in old districts pathway will be made in two different case studies located on North Lebanon. A comparison will be made between the simulation model results and field observation. Findings show that the results of the simulation are different than the real environment. The importance of the research is based on developing a framework that helps urban designers and individuals that are concerned with tourism to find the best factors that can affect tourist way-finding and thus being able to develop these districts
